Alaska gets this (And Sarah Palin) right!

Stubbs, Cat Mayor in Alaska

Can you imagine an animal as a Mayor in a Mayor’s office. Can you imagine that a mayor can freely sleep whenever, wherever he wants? Yes, there is an animal that has been elected as a Mayor of a small town.

Who, where, when, why and how?

The answers are:
Who: Stubbs, The Cat
Where: Talkeetna, Alaska, USA
When: July, 1997 till date
Why: The locals of Talkeetna didn’t like the candidates who were running for election therefore they went for a cat instead of a man/woman.
How: Stubbs, the cat was elected mayor as a write-in candidate. (A write-in candidate is the one whose name does not appeared on ballot paper but her/his followers can write his/her name on ballot paper)

What the locals say about their decision:

The people of that town said that they got a perfect mayor who is very important for tourism.  Most of the citizens are genuinely happy to let the kitten rule the rest.  The citizens think that Stubbs can attract the tourists which will add more value to their small town.
Like other mayors, Stubbs doesn’t have so many responsibilities. He can move freely and royally. He doesn’t need a wine glass to drink water and doesn’t need any precious plate for eating his lunch and dinner.  We can’t imagine that general people can rub the belly of an honorable mayor. But in Alaska, you can.
This honorable mayor generally hangs out near a superstore where lots of tourists ask for him every year. More than 40 people come every day to meet Stubbs. Imagine how important he is! But, we can say this is not an ultimate solution for choosing a better candidate for mayor.
Stubb’s popularity is not limited to just Alaska, he has about 6,200 fans on facebook. You may also follow him on Facebook.
