Telephones were so much a better servant of the public sixty years ago. Particularly the buying public!
I have yet to meet a company's telephone system I can tolerate. I guess it comes with being a senior who remembers when operators were so key to a company's business.
We miss the good operators who were, at least 98 % ladies! Wise companies knew they were worth their weight in gold and appreciated them. Some intelligent digital wizard thought systems would improve things. NOT AT ALL !
I don't think young management gets it!
I am sure that Robert Townsend, who wrote "Up the Organization", would whole-heartedly AGREE !
