Strange Facts About America ... Thx Val M and my brother, Jim K.!

Val Minch of Hickory, NC, and a 1956 graduate of PHS sent me this interesting email, and I am forwarding it to my readers:

The following are some strange facts about America that most Americans do not know.

#1     In more than half of all states in the United States of America , the highest paid public employee in the state is a football coach.
#2     It costs the U.S. Government 1.8 cents to mint a penny and 9.4 centsto mint a nickel.
#3     Almost half of all Americans (47 percent) do not put a single penny out of their paychecks into savings.
#4     Apple has more cash than the U.S. Treasury.
#5     The state of Alaska is 429 times larger than the state of Rhode Island ..  But Rhode Island has a significantly larger population than Alaska does.
#6     Alaska has a longer coastline than all of the other 49 U.S. States put together.
#7     The city of Juneau , Alaska , is about 3,000 square miles in size.  It is actually larger than the entire state of Delaware .
#8     When LBJ's "War on Poverty" began, less than 10 percent of all U.S. Children were growing up in single parent households. Today, that number has skyrocketed to 33 percent .
#9     In 1950, less than 5 percent  of all babies in America were born to unmarried parents. Today, that number is over 40 percent.
#10     The poverty rate for households that are led by a married couple is6.8 percent.  For households that are led by a female single parent, the poverty rate is 37.1 percent.
#11     In 2013, women earned 60 percent of all bachelor's degrees that were awarded that year in the United States .
#12     According to the CDC, 34.6 percent of all men in the U.S. Are obese at this point.
#13     The average supermarket in the United States wastes about 3,000 lbs of food  each year. Meanwhile, approximately 20 percent of the garbage that goes into our landfills is food.
#14     According to one recent survey, 81 percent of Russians now have a negative view of the United States . That is much higher than at the end of the Cold War era.
#15     Montana has three times as many cows as it does people.
#16     The grizzly bear is the official state animal of California .  But no grizzly bears have been seen there since 1922.
#17     One recent survey discovered that "a steady job" is the number one thing that American women are looking for in a husband, and discovered that 75 percent of women would have a serious problem dating an unemployed man.
#18     According to a study conducted by economist Carl Benedict Frey and engineer Michael Osborne, up to 47 percent  of the jobs in the United States could soon be lost to computers, robots and other forms of technology.
#19     The only place in the United States where coffee is grown commercially is in Hawaii.
#20     The original name of the city of Atlanta was "Terminus".
#21     The state with the most millionaires per capita is Maryland.
#22     One survey of 50-year-old men in the U.S. Found that only 12 percent  of them said that they were "very happy".
#23     The United States has 845 motor vehicles for every 1,000 people.
#24      48 percent of all Americans do not have any emergency supplies in their homes whatsoever. Even fewer have fire extinguishers.
#25     There are three towns in the United States that have the name "Santa Claus".
#26     There is actually a town in Michigan called "Hell". (I wonder how far down the road from Detroit that is?)
#27      If you have no debt and also have 10 dollars in your wallet...you are wealthier than 25 percent of all Americans.
#28     By the time an American child reaches the age of 18, that child will have seen approximately 40,000 murders on television.

Subject: Poor Obama and other rich politicians.

Those Damn Rich People

Hypocrisy 101..........They say one thing, then do the opposite.......They don't "walk the talk."

Derrick Wilburn is a black, Conservative writer.  Check him out to see what he writes:

Something STRANGE happens when Democrats leave the White House..... As they prepare for their exodus from the White House, the Obama's are about to join another rarefied club - that of the ruling liberal elite class, owning multiple ultra-expensive homes in highly exclusive communities that no-one in America can afford save the one percenter. The very same one percenter whom they rant and rail against as being the greedy, egocentric millionaire s who simply have too much.

I can't fault them for wanting to live in a beautiful home in a beautiful neighborhood. It's the hypocrisy that gets me. Campaign against the top 1% and then lose and fall in line with the top 1%.

Following the likes of Bill and Hillary Clinton who (despite Hillary's claim earlier last year that they left White House dead broke) somehow managed to educate their daughter at Stanford, Oxford, NYU and Columbia ($500,000?), acquire a $1.7 million estate in Chappaqua and a $2.85 million mansion in Georgetown. Bernie Sanders bought his third home, a $600,000 lakefront vacation house on Lake Champlain, shortly after ending his 2016 presidential bid, .

Barack and Michelle have real estate designs of their own. Earlier this year it was revealed that upon leaving the presidency the Obama's will not be returning to Chicago: They will instead be moving into a $8.1 million, 8,200-square foot, 9-bedroom 12-bathroom mansion in Kalorama, one of the Washington District's most posh, desirable and exclusive neighborhoods in the heart of one of America's wealthiest zip codes. With daughter Malia off to college that leaves just Barack, Michelle and Sasha until Sasha graduates high school in 2018 - then it will be just the two of them.

Nothing says "I care about climate change, energy consumption and our CO2 footprint" more than keeping an 8,200-square foot house heated and air conditioned year round for just three people. The hypocrisy and "do as I say not as I do" hubris of all these wealthy climate change proponents is sickening. By the way, the Obama's new home is just two doors down from Clinton campaign manager, John Podesta, who recently lost the most significant campaign of his life.

But that's not the new news. We have now learned Barack and Michelle are the proud owners of yet another home, this one on the Left Coast.  As reported by Page Six and other sources, the Obama's have a new home in Rancho Mirage, California.  Rancho Mirage is a popular golf getaway which would explain its attraction to the soon-to-be ex-golfer-in-chief. By some counts this is the Obama's fifth home. Also from Page Six, the Obama's are said to have bought a holiday getaway in Obama's childhood home state of Hawaii. How many American families own five of anything, let alone houses? Let alone houses in Hawaii that they see once a year or so. Most of us are blessed if able to rent a hotel room or condo on Hawaii once a decade or a life time.

The relocation habits of Democrats leaving office is very interesting. For example; having been voted out of office in 2014, Louisiana Senator Mary Landrieu didn't return to Louisiana. She instead made her 7,300-square foot $2.5 million Washington DC mansion her new home. Rather than returning to Little Rock, when Bill and Hill left the White House they chose the liberal, ultra-wealthy haven of Chappaqua, New York with its average household income of $285,801 and average household net worth of $1,564,366 for their new residence.

Now it's the Obama's turn. Are they going back to Chicago to live among the little people and take their chances becoming yet another statistic (total number shot as of this writing this year:( 3,961)?

No, not so much. They, like the others, are moving into a private, secured community to live in a house big enough for five families where they will host cocktail parties for golf buddies and other millionaire and billionaire friends.

Yet like the Sanders, Landrieu's and Clinton's of the world, they will accept exorbitant five-, six-, even seven-figure speaking fees to give speeches about how the rich in our country are steadily pulling away from everyone else and increasingly isolating themselves. About how the concentration of wealth at the top is allowing some Americans to own multiple houses, vacation when and as they please and live lives most of the rest of the country cannot fathom. They'll blather on and on about how the rich are a big part of the problems in our country.

Harry Truman once said 'one cannot become wealthy being a president unless you are doing something  crooked.'

It strikes me very wrong, on every level, that people we elect are enriching themselves – when they’ve been entrusted to serve and enrich the people of this nation. It’s logical that “Make America Great Again” was simply the people saying stop this nonsense.
