We Portsmouth Ohio people, particularly of the forties/fifties growing up times Have always enjoyed stories of our P'Town home town and such are most of the conversation items of our Portsmouth Breakfast group here in Columbus.

Sarah DuPuy Rapp was homecoming Queen for Portsmouth High School's 1947 class, but, of course she is still a very young lady.  Her son Jay, young John Rapp, has Been to Xenos Central Teaching in Westerville and we have had some recent discussions.  John's dad, John Rapp, played football for the Portsmouth Trojans in the late forties and also refereed high school games in the area with a few of his teammates.  Young John told me a story this am after church that he had attended  a Northwest/Lucasville game his dad helped referee when he was around 12.  Northwest was creaming Lucasville, scoring nearly at will.  They took over the ball on their own 20 and the runner took off for an apparent long run or score.  The big country boy fan in front of John yelled for the Lucasville team to "Get him!"  It became apparent the defense would not catch the runner so the big fan hopped onto the field and chased down the runner around the six yard lineand brought him down.  The officials each looked at each other and one finally raised his hands awarding Northwest a touchdown.  The ball had not invaded the goal line; however, it appears the fir thing for officials to do.  The sheriff came onto the field and arrested the illegal defender.

I told Jay that James "Flip" Spriggs of that Trojan fb playing era, and formerly a Mckinley school student, used to walk the cute Sarah DuPuy home from school along with his dad.

Just another P'Town couple of occurrences, not many of my age can be here to appreciate.

Thanks friends Jay Rapp (an OSU architect, and Sarah DuPuy Rapp and James "Flip" Spriggs wherever you are!
