American solutions for Winning the Future

Dear Sam,

Gas prices continue to climb toward record highs, with one analyst projecting gasoline prices as high as $4.25 per gallon by the end of May. And now, thanks to stalling on the part of Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV), the Congress may not pass a budget, which means the government is on the verge of a shutdown.

And what is President Obama doing during all of this? Yesterday he skipped town to visit a windmill factory in Pennsylvania to try to sell his failed green energy agenda. While there the President admitted, "I don't pump gas anymore," and told those with large families who need bigger vehicles, "you may want to think about a trade-in."

Meanwhile, thanks to the President's numerous bans and restrictions on domestic drilling, American oil production this year will drop by a shocking 220,000 barrels per day. Tens of thousands of Americans are out of work due to Obama's moratorium on drilling in the Gulf last summer. And earlier this week the communist government in Cuba actually announced it will expand drilling in the Gulf of Mexico this summer.

Yet our President's plan is to talk about green jobs at a windmill factory while loaning money to Brazil so they can drill offshore?

A recent poll found that 76% of Americans believe the United States isn't doing enough to develop its own oil and gas resources. In addition, clear majorities of Americans support more offshore drilling and shale oil production, while 55% of America opposes President Obama's ban on oil and gas drilling in much of America's coastal waters.

Instead of tilting at windmills and promoting policies that would dramatically increase the cost of energy, President Obama should do what the American people want: allow drilling for American oil and gas.

Sincerely,

Steve Everley
