Ernie Pyle

Ernie Pyle reported on the young men in the battles of North Africa, Italy and throughout Europe until the European War ended.  He then served in the Pacific until he received a death dealing missile in that fighting area.  He was an observer and a reporter and let the folks back home know what their fighting men were going through in battle. He served beyond his time and died for our freedom here in America.  He was not the fighter, just the reporter of what those fighting were doing.  I was nearly thirteen when WW II ended and I am now eighty-three, but I read Ernie's stories.  War is not pretty and Ernie Pyle did not paint it that way.  Why must wars be fought?  There is evil and good.  I pray that the United States of America will strive for the good.  If another war has already started, our patriots should not just capitulate.  They must suck it up and fight to win over the evil that exists in today's world.  If the islamic terrorists are not enjoying our ways of resistance now, they are not so smart as I credit them.

The world needs leadership.  I trust no man to provide it, but certainly some more than others.

In the parable of the fig tree Jesus warned that no man knows when this world will end.  This world has so much evil and shrinking good.  I pray for Jesus to return, take deserving souls to Heaven and let those willing like this old man be part of His way in chasing evil from it.  This lifetime is short, but eternity will be a glorious time beyond our imagination.

God is forever in control, even in this current world situation.  My great hope is that we willing to serve him will ve more like Ernie Pylke than the current leaders of our country so many of which appear as cowards in the face of evil.  Thank you Heavenly Father for our gift od your Son if we simply accept Him and attempt to do His bidding.

We enjoyed our Christmas and hope each of you shared with family ... SamKat aka Sam Kegley

Some of our family are religious Catholics or Protestants like Jeanie and me and some  are agnostics, although not all say so.  Nonetheless, we enjoyed a very Merry Christmas in our Condo Christmas evening with our sons and their families except for Jeff's step sons Will and Daniel Allen.

I cut down on the number of nativities this year to a very few silver and gold ones, whereas I had built up to over 200 when we lived in our house at 428 Illinois in Westerville.

We visited both of our sons Christmas Day and enjoyed Jay's wife's Terri Meyers' family's Christmas there.  We saw Will and Daniel at Jeff's and Suzy's Christmas afternoon.

I have to say my biggest surprise was the bright young athlete and over four point academic, Oliver Miller, Tobey and Ida Scout's cousin and son of Dan and Jenny Miller's began singing Happy Birthday to what I thought might become Jay or other December birthday people's birthdays.  To my appreciative surprise, Oliver continued to sing "to Jesus, Happy Birthday to you."

I couldn't find  my 2' by 8' sign which says "Happy Birthday Jesus" this year, because I still have too much stored in our storage area and our garage.  I first saw the sign in a Japanese parade when I was in Tokyo in the US Army Christmas 1954, when I watched a kid's Christmas Parade and they had a large sign stretching from from side of the street to the other with "Happy Birthday Jesus".  It warmed the cockles of this eighty-three year olds' heart to hear the wonderful young Oliver start the song at Jay's for the Meyers' Christmas.

Over-all we had an Excellent Christmas but I thank Oliver for making it truly special!
