Presumptive GOP nominee Donald Trump is a "baby Christian," according to Focus on the Family founder Dr. James Dobson, who told Pastor Michael Anthony in a brief interview that Trump has "accepted a relationship" with Jesus Christ, and that it "has not been long" since that happened.

"I don't know when it was, but it has not been long," Dobson told Anthony, who posted the interview on his Godfactor.com website on Friday.  "I believe he really made a commitment, but he's a baby Christian. We all need to be praying for him, especially if there's a possibility of him being our next chief executive officer."
Dobson told Anthony in the interview, done during Tuesday's meetings in Washington between Trump and nearly 1,000 evangelical leaders, that he knows who led Trump to Christ, but did not disclose that person's name.

Dobson admitted that Trump "doesn't know our language, he really doesn't, and he refers a lot to religion and not much to faith and belief." But Dobson does think that Trump's "open" to evangelical beliefs.
Anthony commented that Trump may be like the Biblical example of Saul's conversion to Christianity, when he also did not know the language. Dobson replied that people will need to cut Trump "some slack."

"He didn’t grow up like we did," Dobson said. "I think there’s hope for him, and I think there’s hope for us. I have great concerns about the next election.”

Dobson also said Trump is a "lot nicer guy" than many people would believe, and that he thinks he was listening while the nation's evangelical leaders were "ministering to him personally" and asking Trump hard questions.
Trump, though, has faced some criticism about his faith, after last year saying he did not need or ask for God's forgiveness, or when he referred to "Two Corinthians" in a speech at Liberty University.

Tuesday's meeting between Trump and nearly 1,000 Christian leaders was "very positive," Family Research Council President Tony Perkins said, but he's not sure evangelicals are "quite there" yet about endorsing Trump's candidacy.
