My good friend, Dick Klitch, and I motored down to the "Cultural Center of Our Universe" yesterday and enjoyed the dedication of the new Dr. WilliAm Daehler Tennis Center at Shawnee State.
Several family members, friends, and tennis aficianados gathered at Taylor Hall at the corner of Union and Second Streets in Portsmouth. After luncheon visits, we all gathered at the highest quality new Tennis Center (eight courts) and viewed the brief ceremony and opening volleys on the facility.
Dr. Rita Rice Morris, Shawnee State President, Dr. Daehler, and Jeff Hamilton, Shawnee's Athletic Director were so happy to see the new facility. Fruition, from planning to the dedication was fairly brief and Dr. Daehler, who donated $250,000 for the Center, said:
"After all, I wanted to play on the courts and we never know how long we will be around." The energetic Doctor volleyed with several friends including Dick Klitch.
I, blessed to be a friend to each, but otherwise never close to tennis, was amazed at the continued athleticism of each. I must add that there also were several athletic ladies volleying on the new courts.
Now God, please allow me to add some photos:
