For Christian American readers of this blog:

I wish to incite all Christians to rise up and take back the United States of America with all of God's manifold blessings. We want the free allowance of the Bible and prayers allowed again in schools, halls of justice, and all governing bodies. We don't seek a theocracy until Jesus returns to earth because all men are weak and power corrupts the very best of them.
We want to be a kinder and gentler people without slavery or condescension to any.

The world seems to be in a time of discontent among the populace. Christians should not fear. God is Love, shown best through Jesus Christ. God is still in control. All Glory to our Creator and to our God!

A favorite quote from my good friend, Jack Plymale, which I appreciate:

"Wars are planned by old men,in council rooms apart. They plan for greater armament, they map the battle chart, but: where sightless eyes stare out, beyond life's vanished joys, I've noticed, somehow, all the dead and mamed are hardly more than boys(Grantland Rice per our mutual friend, Sarah Rapp)."

Thanks Jack!

I must admit that I do not check authenticity of my posts. If anyone can tell me of a non-biased arbitrator, I will attempt to do so more regularly. I know of no such arbitrator for the internet.

Off color but funny!

This is really funny!!!! Enjoy

At the end of the tax year, the IRS sent an inspector to audit the books of a synagogue. While he was checking the books he turned to the Rabbi and said: 'I notice you buy a lot of candles. What do you do with the candle drippings?'' Good question', noted the Rabbi.'We save them up and send them back to the candle makers, and every now and then they send us a free box of candles.'Oh', replied the auditor, somewhat disappointed that his unusual question had a practical answer. But on he went, in his obnoxious way: 'What about all these biscuit purchases? What do you do with the crumbs?'' Ah, yes', replied the Rabbi, realizing that the inspector was trying to trap him with an unanswerable question. 'We collect them and send them back to the manufacturers, and every now and then they send a free box of holy biscuits.''I see!' replied the auditor, thinking hard about how he could fluster the know-it-all Rabbi. 'Well, Rabbi', he went on, 'What do you do with
all the leftover foreskins from the circumcisions you perform?' 'Here, too, we do not waste', answered the Rabbi. 'What we do is save up all the foreskins and send them to the IRS, and about once a year they send us a complete dick.'

I love the Kentucky Wildcats basketball teams- SamKat

Observation: I don't understand this "sports hatred" for UK

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I really don't. I've been a fan of the program since birth, and while I've come to expect it, and I understand it's just the nature of sports and all that, I still scratch my head over it sometimes at the depth of the contempt some (and I did say some, not all) fans of other programs have for UK basketball. (I was going to include the media in that group, too, but you never know with those guys whether they truly have issues with UK or if they're just using that angle to write a column, when in truth they really don't care one way or another. Except for one sportswriter in Lexington we all know about, that is.)

In terms of college sports, I don't care for Louisville, Duke, North Carolina, Tennessee, and a bunch of other programs I could name, but except for how they relate to UK as opponents, I really don't give them much thought, to be honest, and I sure as heck don't waste my time obsessing over ways I can find to "hate" them. Maybe at age 52 I'm mellowing out a bit, but there it is.

These days we as fans have so many ways we can get sports information and access what's going on with other programs. I read the message boards of other schools and some of the fans' blogs and honest to gosh, I wonder if these people have a life. You would think their whole purpose in life is to single handedly try to bring down the UK basketball program. Now, in fairness to them, I'm sure Wildcat Nation has it's share of folks like that. Every fanbase has it's share of crazies who push the envelope and take things too far, but I've yet to run into UK fans who think that way.

With the success the team has had so far, and with the likelihood of an undefeated season not out of the realm of possibility, I'm seeing a lot more of the "hate" coming out in columns and blogs than there has been. Maybe it's because of what the program went through the last two years, and for fans of other schools to see the program resurrected this quickly is puttin' the fear of god into 'em. I don't know.

College sports. Ya gotta love it.

We're an easy target.

We get bent out of shape about a lot of things. We write letters to the editor, we get on Facebook, we call in to national talk shows. We're incredibly defensive about our program.

Some of the time this reaction is deserved. Some of the time we go over the top. But you can guarantee that any time Kentucky is brought up, there will be a response from the Big Blue Nation.

And so we're brought up. A lot.

Every successful program has haters who are fans of the teams they are beating. Jealousy, pure jealousy! I don't worry about it.....in fact I love it!

It's not what happened the last two years, it's what's going on right now. We are climbing back on top. It's not just UK, anyone that is on top has a target on their back. It's the nature of the beast.

Very good point. UK has a fan base like no other.

True. My point was that under the previous regime, a lot of players were coming out and saying that playing UK was no big deal anymore, but as you say, NOW they can't say that. Those days are over.

When a sports program or franchise is on top for a long time they usually become hated by anyone who is not a fan of them. Look at the Yankees,Cowboys and Notre Dame. Duke is someone who has become like that in the last 20 years. Before Coach K got there most people couldn't give two hoots about them. But after he started putting them into one Final Four after another the big split happened. You either loved them or hated them. UK fans should take it as a compliment that many dislike them. It shows they have been at or near the top for a long time and others are envious.

not much to it

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

There is really not much to it other than we are the most successful basketball team ever in the history of college sports. People are jealous of our success. They get tired of how good we have been throughout the years and are afraid of how good we may become once again. We are on our way back up to elite status and most people either love us or hate us.
Imagine if you kept hearing about how good Duke is. Imagine it was back a decade or so ago and you had to hear Dick Vitale screamming about it all day every day. Most of us could tune it out and try to ignore it. But let's say you are a fan of another University that is supposed to be better than how they were currently playing. I believe I would be one of the people that would start to hate Duke and everything about their stupid program.
We have kicked everyone's butt for many years now. There are a lot of sore losers out there that would love to see our program fail.

Just my 2 Cents.

Sorry Cumberlandredskin. I just read your post and realized that a lot of what I said is what you said.

We win a lot, which leads to people disliking us just like every other successsful program. We also have a ton of fans and like Will said, we tend to over react to things and can be pretty annoying. Due to our large fans base we also have a lot of bad fans who go to other teams sites, etc. and behave poorly. Every team has them but due to our large fan base, we have more of them. If there is a post on another teams website that speaks ill of UK, there will be hundreds of posts calling the guy an idiot or defending UK in one way or another. I am sure writers appreciate the traffic, but I imagine it gets old.

I dislike Ohio St despite no team I root for ever playing them and I barely know anyone that went to nor roots for Ohio St. Something about them just bugs me. I think you also get that with UK due to them being in the news alot.

Sports writers get paid by people wanting to read. UK fans are as oversensitive to their teams as any, and more so than most. We reserve the right to criticize our team while denying those failings if others point them out.

In short.....if you point a finger at UK, it's like throwing a rock at a hornet's nest.....and other folks loooooooooove to see us get in an uproar.

If you don't understand why people dislike Kentucky, then you don't read. You don't know the history of Kentucky or you gloss over the parts that don't jive with your sense of honor or right and wrong.

I completely understand why people would dislike UK.

Take off the blue tinted glasses and enter reality.

My problem is not with our history or the fact that it's out there. It's the fact that other programs did the exact same thing and are somehow excused from their misbehavior.

John Wooden's scum ridden history is a prime example.

They worship that old turd and want to burn Rupp at the stake.

Hypocrisy.

Anyone who doesn't understand the "sports hate" directed against UK is naive or willfully blind to the history of College Basketball/Football.

Coach Cal needs to take this nonesense in the press and use it as a motivational tool for when the team needs a little extra.

My neighbor for the last twenty years hates Kentucky (he's from Ohio/Michigan) and we sometimes see each other at happy hour. Once he brought an article into happy hour that declared none of our 1998 NCAA championship players graduated. I was back the next day with proof otherwise...he dissed it because it came from The University of Kentucky.
I'm happy and he is not...Go Big Blue.

In the sports context, hate doesn't come from careful, intelligent reflection. Instead it usually comes from a dislike of one person or coach (or even the geographic area) that gets generalized to the entire school.

Right now, some people dislike us because we're successful. Some others dislike us because Calipari is our coach. Some have always disliked us for whatever random there is.

As much as we think we're unique in being hated, I don't think that's the case. Time spent outside the state has shown me mostly a general apathy toward our basketball program. I think it's easy to perceive hate when we live in the UK bubble.

Apathy toward the UK basketball program? I don't think so DCWildcat. I know there is a lot of false generalizations about our program but apathy is an incorrect word and I too have lived outside of the "UK bubble." People are going to accuse our program of one thing or another just because we are Kentucky basketball. I have seen the false generalizations on too many other college sports boards on the internet to believe others are apathetic toward UK or its fans.

Coach Cal understands it and repeatedly mentions IT. IT is the Kentucky basketball mystique.

Hey, UK basketball was everything successful about the great entertainment of school basketball back in the late forties and early fifties and for each decade since. I loved them in my schoolyard playing days, as I only dreamed of being good enough to make my high school Portsmouth Trojans or even the KENTUCKY WILDCATS.

I was truly amazed by all of the roadside signs and bumper stickers (more popular back in 1958) showing worship for the Commonwealth's school- the University of Kentucky. Jeanie and I drove from Portsmoputh to UK after their 1958 NCAA Championship to see where I might finish college. Then, walking through Memorial Hall and seeing all of the trophy cases and memorabelia the Wildcat teams and coaches Rupp and Hamilton had amassed just sealed the deal that I must go there. I have had a lifetime of winter entertanment provided by the Kentucky Wildcats.

Those who hate our teams or our fans just will never get IT. The Ohio bully, whom the Army brass detested and the IU fans still worship didn't want any part of IT. That makes IT even more lovely!

Elderly couple

An elderly senior couple were invited to an old friends home for dinner one evening. She was impressed by the way her lady friend preceded every request to her husband with endearing terms such as: Honey, My Love, Darling, Sweetheart, Pumpkin, etc. The couple had been married almost 70 years and, clearly, they were still very much in love.

While the husband was in the living room, her lady friend leaned over to her host to say, 'I think it's wonderful that, after all these years, you still call your husband all those loving pet names'. The elderly lady hung her head. 'I have to tell you the truth,' she said, 'His name slipped my mind about 10 years ago, and I'm scared to death to ask the cranky old asshole what his name is.
