Welcome
Welcome to my blog http://www.skegley.blogspot.com/ . CAVEAT LECTOR- Let the reader beware. This is a Christian Conservative blog. It is not meant to offend anyone. Please feel free to ignore this blog, but also feel free to browse and comment on my posts! You may also scroll down to respond to any post.
For Christian American readers of this blog:
I wish to incite all Christians to rise up and take back the United States of America with all of God's manifold blessings. We want the free allowance of the Bible and prayers allowed again in schools, halls of justice, and all governing bodies. We don't seek a theocracy until Jesus returns to earth because all men are weak and power corrupts the very best of them.
We want to be a kinder and gentler people without slavery or condescension to any.
The world seems to be in a time of discontent among the populace. Christians should not fear. God is Love, shown best through Jesus Christ. God is still in control. All Glory to our Creator and to our God!
A favorite quote from my good friend, Jack Plymale, which I appreciate:
"Wars are planned by old men,in council rooms apart. They plan for greater armament, they map the battle chart, but: where sightless eyes stare out, beyond life's vanished joys, I've noticed, somehow, all the dead and mamed are hardly more than boys(Grantland Rice per our mutual friend, Sarah Rapp)."
Thanks Jack!
I must admit that I do not check authenticity of my posts. If anyone can tell me of a non-biased arbitrator, I will attempt to do so more regularly. I know of no such arbitrator for the internet.

A veteran died today ... Thx Paul C!
*A POEM WORTH**READING*
*He was getting old and paunchy
And his hair was falling fast,
And he sat around the Legion,
Telling stories of the past.
Of a war that he once fought in
And the deeds that he had done,
In his exploits with his buddies;
They were heroes, every one.
And 'tho sometimes to his neighbors
His tales became a joke,
All his buddies listened quietly
For they knew where of he spoke.
But we'll hear his tales no longer,
For ol' Joe has passed away,
And the world's a little poorer
For a Veteran died today.
He won't be mourned by many,
Just his children and his wife.
For he lived an ordinary,
Very quiet sort of life.
He held a job and raised a family,
Going quietly on his way;
And the world won't note his passing,
'Tho a Veteran died today.
When politicians leave this earth,
Their bodies lie in state,
While thousands note their passing,
And proclaim that they were great.
Papers tell of their life stories
From the time that they were young,
But the passing of a Veteran
Goes unnoticed, and unsung.
Is the greatest contribution
To the welfare of our land,
Some jerk who breaks his promise
And cons his fellow man?
Or the ordinary fellow
Who in times of war and strife,
Goes off to serve his country
And offers up his life?
The politician's stipend
And the style in which he lives,
Are often disproportionate,
To the service that he gives.
While the ordinary Veteran,
Who offered up his all,
Is paid off with a medal
And perhaps a pension, small.
It is not the politicians
With their compromise and ploys,
Who won for us the freedom
That our country now enjoys.
Should you find yourself in danger,
With your enemies at hand,
Would you really want some cop-out,
With his ever-waffling stand?
Or would you want a Veteran
His home, his country, his kin,
Just a common Veteran,
Who would fight until the end.
He was just a common Veteran,
And his ranks are growing thin,
But his presence should remind us
We may need his likes again.*
*For when countries are in conflict,
We find the Veteran's part,
Is to clean up all the troubles
That the politicians start.
If we cannot do him honor
While he's here to hear the praise,
Then at least let's give him homage
At the ending of his days.
Perhaps just a simple headline
In the paper that might say:
"OUR COUNTRY IS IN MOURNING,
A VETERAN DIED TODAY."
PLEASE pass On The Patriotism! YOU can make a difference. If you are
proud of our Vets, then send this to them. You'll be glad you did.
Then send it to ALL your friends.*

Monopoly at the death-bed ... Thx Dr. H!
Doug Smith is on his deathbed and knows the end is near. His nurse, his wife, his daughter and 2 sons, are with him.
So, he says to them :"Bernie, I want you to take the Manhattan houses." "Sybil, you take the apartments over in the east end." "Jamie, I want you to take the offices over in the City Centre." "Sarah, my dear wife, please take all the residential buildings on the banks of the river."
The nurse is just blown away by all this, and as Doug slips away, she says, "Mrs. Smith, your husband must have been such
a hard-working man to have accumulated all this property."
Sarah replies, "Property ? .... the asshole had a paper route!"

This is beautiful regarding death ... Thx Marge R!
This really is the most beautiful explanation of death I've ever heard.
~DEATH~
WHAT A WONDERFUL WAY TO EXPLAIN IT
A sick man turned to his doctor as he was preparing to
Leave the examination room and said,
'Doctor, I am afraid to die.Tell me what lies on the other side..'
Very quietly, the doctor said, 'I don't know..'
'You don't know? You're, a Christian man,and don't know what's on the other side?'
The doctor was holding the handle of the door;On the other side came a sound of scratching and whining,
And as he opened the door, a dog sprang into the room
And leaped on him with an eager show of gladness.
Turning to the patient, the doctor said,
'Did you notice my dog?
He's never been in this room before.
He didn't know what was inside..
He knew nothing except that his master was here,
And when the door opened, he sprang in without fear.
I know little of what is on the other side of death,
But I do know one thing...
I know my Master is there and that is enough.'
(sorry - cannot break this)
May today there be peace within you.
May you trust God that you are exactly
Where you are meant to be..
I believe that friends are quiet angels
Who lift us to our feet when our wings
Have trouble remembering how to fly.
Just pass this on...
Do not break this, PLEASE!!!!!

> Death. We all have one thing in common. There will come a day when we take our last breath and die. It could happen today or we may have the blessing of a long life. The reality of life is that there is death.
>
> If you have ever wandered around a book store you've noticed a growing genera of books known as self-help books. Millions of books are sold yearly to people trying to get their best life now. It doesn't matter what someone's religious or secular world view is, people want to have a long and full life. The problem is, we can't escape the death that comes at the end.
>
> I don't mean to be morbid today, but realistic. My 8th grade daughter Anna has been reading about the Holocaust and the famous young woman Anne Frank. Her class was asked to write a poem expressing the emotions of that dark time. This poem moved me deeply. Take a moment to read it.
>
> Why?
>
> I hear them walking closer and closer,
>
> Their feet pound on the gravel that leads to my house.
>
> I know why they’re coming,
>
> They’re coming for me.
>
> They pound down my house door!
>
> They fire their guns!
>
> I hear the screams of my father, mother, and sister,
>
> Then I hear three thumps on the floor.
>
> I’m still hidden under my bed.
>
> Will they find me?
>
> Will I soon be dead?
>
> Their pounding feet approach my bedroom door.
>
> I hear the shouts, I hear their commands,
>
> The commands that demand my death.
>
> Will I live? Shall I survive?
>
> These thoughts keep frantically going through my head.
>
> BANG!
>
> My door is burst through and the Nazi soldiers enter my room.
>
> They throw my chair on the floor!
>
> They take the papers from inside my desk and throw them everywhere.
>
> Then the man with the star covered boots stops,
>
> Then, he turns toward my bed.
>
> All is quiet, not one sound is heard.
>
> Do I dare to breathe?
>
> Not a chance.
>
> My heart pounds so heard that I’m scared the Nazis will hear it.
>
> The Gestapo walks closer to my bed and then flips it over.
>
> I scream and scream and scream!
>
> But what’s the point, nobody will hear me!
>
> Even if somebody does hear me, they won’t care.
>
> The man grabs me by the arm and pulls me out into the street.
>
> Will he shoot me or will I be spared?
>
> Hundreds of people all around me are covered in blood, bruises and tears.
>
> We are all going to die because of the star on our chest.
>
> I try to escape, but I fail.
>
> I’m much too weak compared to the Nazis grasp.
>
> I try again and then I break free!
>
> I begin to run, but I am stopped by a horrific noise!
>
> Then a sudden pain.
>
> There’s something inside me, a bullet I guess.
>
> Why did they shoot me?
>
> I’m just a kid!
>
> Soon the world goes black.
>
> I know I will never see the daylight again.
>
> When I read this poem I felt as if I was the child under the bed. To think that so many people experienced such a moment is hard to accept. Saddly, the reality that we face in life is that there is death. However, the reality of God is that there is hope. I find it incomprehensible that God gave the world Jesus and the world says "No!" God says there is life in my Son and the world says "Go Away!" God declares that man does not have to earn his eternal life but religion says "DO! DO! DO!"
>
>
>
> I don't know what your plans are when this life comes to an end but let me encourage you to realize we all need a Savior and must put our faith only in Him for Salvation. He promises eternal life to those that would simply believe that Jesus death on the cross is the only hope for having my sins removed. Jesus paid for the gift that brings the hope of eternal life. Don't turn away from the only hope we have.
>
> Our last breath, in this life, will come someday. The good news is, God has given us the way to have eternal life through the sacrifice of Jesus.
>
> “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. John 3:16
>
>
>
>
> For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast. Ephesians 2:8-9
>
>
>
> Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. John 14:6

Portsmouth Clay's Former Coach Arch Justus died last Friday 2-3-1012.
I'm back. My young guru, Shawn Baird, came over and got me back onto my SamKat www.skegley.blogspot.com blog last night.I dumbly had signed onto Google Apps when I didn't need to and the business site gmail address was messing me up. I hope somebody missed my posts. I certainly did. Isn't it terrible to be an egotist? (Hopefully, I am not, but I did miss posting on the blog.)
Anyway, Clay Vice had told us about Arch Justus being sick Friday. We didn't hear here in Columbus, but, sadly, Coach Arch died Friday night at Riverside Hospital here in Columbus. Unknowingly, I called Columbus lawyer, Steve Fitch, and he met me at Riverside at 1:30 PM Sunday. Arch was not shown as a patient. Hospitals don't share such sad news with visitors other than close family. After spending a few minutes with Steve and giving him the two extra "Acquaintances With Integrity II" books he ordered for his sons, we departed. I called Clay and received the sad news that the coach had died Friday evening. Clay had sent Facebook notices out, but I don't get on facebook regularly.
I called Steve with the sad news.
I had called Arch a few times to interview him as one of the outstanding athletes or coaches of the Portsmouth area. There was always some sad health news going on in his family and we never got together for the interview. Clay told me Friday afternoon that he lost his mother and his wife within the last year and Arch had liver cancer, although his son, John, told Clay that the doctors expected him to survive.
Steve Fitch was on Arch's Clay High School basketball teams as a junior and senior but hardly saw action according to Steve. As a testament to good coaching, Steve walked on the next season at Ohio State and was the very last cut after a few weeks of tryouts. When he next saw Coach Justus, the coach was happily surprised for Steve. Steve told him that the fundamentals stressed at Ohio State were the same ones Coach Justus had used at Clay.
God bless the Justus family and one of Portsmouth's best coaches and the guy Clay tells me that Clay's former baseball coach Kenny Long told Clay that Arch Justus could have made the baseball major leagues if he didn't have bad knees. The witnesses said that Arch Justus could hit a baseball farther than any others of the very outstanding Ramey's Feed or Deemer's teams of bygone Portsmouth days.
In reality, we will all certainly die unless we remain on earth when Christ returns.

Lea Dushinski passed away ... thanks brother, Jim and friend, Ronnie Walters!
High Notes
12-08-2011
Lea
Duschinski died Saturday, December 3, 2011, and that was a black
day in the annals of dear old Portsmouth High.
Lea served
many years as secretary to the principal at the high school, and retired in
about 1985. Lea graduated from Portsmouth Central Catholic in
1944, and began her long career shortly after graduation. For many
years she walked to and from the school at the corner of Waller and Gallia
Streets from her home at 1606 3rd
St.
Nobody
knew the history of PHS better than Lea, for the period from 1945 until
now. Even though Lea had been retired many years she tried to
attend every home football and basketball game of PHS, and most of Portsmouth
Notre Dame’s games too. She was a true sports fan, and especially
loved The Cincinnati Reds.
Another
plus, and example of her high regard among acquaintances, was her annual
invitation to numerous class reunions every summer. I described
Lea as “The belle of a hundred class reunions,” when I emailed a notice of her
hospitalization to friends.
Lea was
also a devotee of lolling in the sun, whether at old Dreamland Pool, the Elks
Country Club pool, or a pool of one of her friends or family.
Lea lived on South Taylor Court, in Forrest Heights,
Portsmouth, until May this year, when she had a bad fall while sweeping her
sidewalk, and shattering her left elbow, and cracking her head.
She was already pretty frail from a loss of appetite, and she was
hospitalized for several weeks before being moved into Hill
View Retirement Center’s health
care facility.
Her keen
memory, devotion to her church and schools, and her extensive reading, made her
an interesting and fun companion; she was a member of several groups of friends
who ate together frequently. In recent years she complained that
her lunch and dinner groups had fallen off, but you could see Lea and Vi Gantz
at The Scioto Ribber or Damon’s most every Thursday evening. She
had a limit of two vodka drinks an evening, unless the “company or conversation
got really exciting,” she often said.
Visitation
for Lea Rose Duschinski will be 6 to 8 p.m., Wednesday, and the
funeral will be Thursday, at 1:30 p.m., at Melcher’s Funeral Home,
Portsmouth.
Lea’s good
friend, Janet Bowman said, “The funeral will be Thursday, because that’s the
only day local singer and friend, Stan Workman could sing at her funeral, and
that was a special request of Lea’s.” That is a testament to her
affinity for everything Portsmouth, as Stan is a
celebrated PHS graduate.
Always the
good Catholic, and blessed with a wry sense of humor, she told me that she, upon
attending her first movie in a theatre in years, “almost genuflected before
taking my seat.”
Brushart
was Lea’s mother, Jean’s maiden name, and she told me about a community named
“Brushart” in Kentucky, so I said, “Why don’t we
drive down and see what Brushart, Kentucky is
like?” So, in 2010 we did just that…Lea and I took off in her car,
and I drove. Brushart, is described as “a populated place” in
Greenup, County, Kentucky. We found
it!
I had Lea get out and stand by identifying signs, and I took her picture
so she could show her family, and we ended up having lunch at
Carter Cave’s State Park
resort. It was another first for Lea, and we had a good time, for
which I have pleasant memories.
Adieu old
friend, adieu.
"Medicine, law, business, engineering. They are noble pursuits, and
necessary to sustain life. But poetry, beauty, romance, love, these are what we
stay alive for."

Blonde Mortician... Thanks Jim Kegley!
Subject: BLONDE MORTICIAN
JUST TOO FUNNY NOT TO SHARE.........
BLONDE MORTICIAN
A man who'd just died is delivered to a local mortuary wearing an expensive, expertly tailored black suit.
The female blonde mortician asks the deceased's wife how she would like the body dressed. She points out that the man does look good in the black suit he is already wearing.
The widow, however, says that she always thought her husband looked his best in blue, and that she wants him in a blue suit. She gives the Blonde mortician a blank check and says, 'I don't care what it costs, but please have my husband in a blue suit for the viewing.'
The woman returns the next day for the wake. To her delight, she finds her husband dressed in a gorgeous blue suit with a subtle chalk stripe; the suit fits him perfectly...
She says to the mortician, 'Whatever this cost, I'm very satisfied.. You did an excellent job and I'm very grateful. How much did you spend?'
To her astonishment, the blonde mortician presents her with the blank check.
'There's no charge,' she says.
'No, really, I must compensate you for the cost of that exquisite blue suit!' she says.
'Honestly, ma'am,' the blonde says, 'it cost nothing. You see, a deceased gentleman of about your husband's size was brought in shortly after you left yesterday, and he was wearing an attractive blue suit. I asked his wife if she minded him going to his grave wearing a black suit instead, and she said it made no difference as long as he looked nice.'
'So I just switched the heads.'

Alma,
I just offered Bob Bender and his family and church up to God. There are special challenges to all ministers in this time and God knows above all.

Please be in prayer for the Bender family: Bob Bender, minister to the Lake Eustis Christian Church in Florida went home to be with our Father this past weekend. Bob graduated from Kentucky Christian College (now University) and has ministered to churches in Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Florida. I grew up with his wife Janie at the college and we all were in the same graduating class there. Not only is the Bender family feeling the pain of the loss of a husband, father, and grandfather, the church also feels deeply the loss of their minister. Although earth holds pain like this, there is the realization that Bob knew our Lord personally and is now sharing in the kingdom . . .
Blessings,
Alma
