Welcome

Welcome to my blog http://www.skegley.blogspot.com/ . CAVEAT LECTOR- Let the reader beware. This is a Christian Conservative blog. It is not meant to offend anyone. Please feel free to ignore this blog, but also feel free to browse and comment on my posts! You may also scroll down to respond to any post.

For Christian American readers of this blog:

I wish to incite all Christians to rise up and take back the United States of America with all of God's manifold blessings. We want the free allowance of the Bible and prayers allowed again in schools, halls of justice, and all governing bodies. We don't seek a theocracy until Jesus returns to earth because all men are weak and power corrupts the very best of them.
We want to be a kinder and gentler people without slavery or condescension to any.

The world seems to be in a time of discontent among the populace. Christians should not fear. God is Love, shown best through Jesus Christ. God is still in control. All Glory to our Creator and to our God!

A favorite quote from my good friend, Jack Plymale, which I appreciate:

"Wars are planned by old men,in council rooms apart. They plan for greater armament, they map the battle chart, but: where sightless eyes stare out, beyond life's vanished joys, I've noticed, somehow, all the dead and mamed are hardly more than boys(Grantland Rice per our mutual friend, Sarah Rapp)."

Thanks Jack!

I must admit that I do not check authenticity of my posts. If anyone can tell me of a non-biased arbitrator, I will attempt to do so more regularly. I know of no such arbitrator for the internet.

Kerry - 'America or Iran Rep? Tragic Farce ... Thx Paul C & Ramey H!

AGENTS OF THE ENEMY

Is John Kerry representing America or Iran?

0
772250250
kerry-bowsIf any further evidence was needed to show that the nuclear talks with Iran were a tragic farce, choreographed and orchestrated by Iran, the startling revelations from a former top aide to Iranian President Hassan Rouhani ought to do the trick.
“The US negotiating team are mainly [in Lausanne] to speak on Iran’s behalf with other members of the 5+1 countries and convince them of a deal,” he told an opposition television network in London.
Amir Hossein Motaghi was Rouhani’s image-maker during the 2013 presidential elections, the man in charge of promoting Rouhani to the nation’s youth through a vigorous social media campaign. Thanks in large part to his efforts, Rouhani captured an overwhelming majority of the youth vote and beat his nearest opponent by more than 30 points.
A journalist by trade, Motaghi says he traveled to Lausanne to cover the nuclear talks for the Iranian Student Correspondents Association (ISCA), but then quit his job and applied for political asylum.
That makes him the most recent defector from the upper reaches of Iran’s political establishment to flee the regime and seek refuge in the West.
In his interview with the opposition Iran-e Farda television in London, reported by the Daily Telegraph, Motaghi accused the regime of sending intelligence officers posing as journalists to the talks “to make sure that all the news fed back to Iran goes through their channels.
“My conscience would not allow me to carry out my profession in this manner any more,” he added.
But his revelation about U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry and his negotiating team is the real shocker. It should wipe away any shred of credibility left to a process that has aimed from the start at helping Iran to slip the deadly noose of the international economic and financial sanctions that have crippled its economy and exacerbated social unrest.
Essentially, what Motaghi said is that Secretary Kerry is working as an agent of Iran and has been arm-twisting reluctant allies, such as the French, into accepting what they know is a bad deal.
French Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius, for example, has long been insisting that Iran come clean on its previous military activities, something we are now told that the American delegation, led by Secretary Kerry, wants to leave out of the negotiation. Why? Because the Iranians have said they will not come clean.
That was too much even for the normally pro-Democrat Washington Post, which wrote in a column attributed to its Editorial Board last Friday that the deal was “a reward for Iran’s noncompliance.”
Some Iranian-Americans believe that Secretary Kerry should have recused himself from the negotiations at the very outset because of his long-standing relationship to his Iranian counter-part, Mohammad Javad Zarif.
The two first met over a decade ago at a dinner party hosted by George Soros at his Manhattan penthouse, according to a 2012 book by Hooman Majd, who frequently translates for Iranian officials.
Iranian-American sources in Los Angeles tell me that Javad Zarif’s son was the best man at the 2009 wedding between Kerry’s daughter Vanessa and Behrouz Vala Nahed, an Iranian-American medical doctor.
The newlyweds went to Iran shortly after their wedding to met Nahed’s family. Kerry ultimately revealed his daughter’s marriage to an Iranian-American once he had taken over as Secretary of State. But the subject never came up in his Senate confirmation hearing, either because Kerry never disclosed it, or because his former colleagues were too polite to bring it up.
John Kerry has long advocated nuclear negotiations with Iran. During his 2004 presidential bid, he said that if he were President, he would have “offered the opportunity to provide the nuclear fuel” to Iran, to “test them, see whether or not they were actually looking for it for peaceful purposes.”
He also has a long track record of taking money from Iranian-Americans connected to Tehran or lobbying to get U.S. sanctions on Iran removed, Tehran’s prime objective for many years, a subject I have chronicled repeatedly.
But Kerry wasn’t the only person not officially part of the Iranian delegation who was carrying Tehran’s water in Lausanne.
Also showing up was Trita Parsi, president of the National Iranian American Council (NIAC), hobnobbing with Western reporters while striding into meetings side by side with the Iranian delegation.
The irony of a Swedish-Iranian running an Iranian-American lobbying organization then showing up in Lausanne to play “let’s make a deal” was not lost on the Iranian American community.
For many years Parsi and NIAC tried to disguise their lobbying efforts on behalf of the Islamic Republic of Iran. At one point, they sued an Iranian journalist, Hassan Dai, who openly labeled them the “Iranian lobby” in Washington – only to lose the case, with a U.S. court ordering NIAC to pay damages of over $100,000.
“Now it seems that after losing the court case, NIAC is no longer trying to hide its cozy relationship with IRI and openly communicates with the regime,” Dr. Iman Foroutan, a California entrepreneur and Chairman of The New Iran, a pro-freedom forum, told me.
“Those Iranian American members of NIAC that until now have not been aware of NIAC’s direct relationship with the tyrannical regime in Iran will now have to make a choice of remaining a member of or cancelling their membership with NIAC,” Dr. Foroutan said.
While Parsi’s relationship to Tehran officials angers Iranian-Americans, Secretary of State John Kerry’s lobbying his fellow foreign ministers to accept Iranian negotiating positions – if true – should make Americans livid.
That is, if anyone is still paying attention to the facts.

Ramey's interpretation of 'Daughter gone bad!' Me too!

Daughter

My daughter just walked into the living room and said "Dad, cancel my allowance immediately, rent out my room, throw all my clothes out of the window, take my TV, and stereo, and iPhone, and iPod, and my laptop. Please take all of my jewelry to the Salvation Army or Cash Converters. Then sell my new car, take my front door key away from me and throw me out of the house. Then disown me and never talk to me again. And don't forget to write me out of your will and leave my share to my brother."

Well, she didn't put it quite like that. She actually said...

"Dad I have decided to work for Obama's reelection campaign."

Shirley goodness... Thanks Tom & Carolyn!

Recycles refresh us, don't they T & C!

Cute!!!!!!!!!

A mother was concerned about her kindergarten son walking to school.

Young Timmy didn't want his mother to walk with him. .....he wanted to walk with his friend.

His Mom wanted to give him the feeling that he had some independence but yet know that he was safe.

So she had an idea of how to handle it.

She asked a neighbour if she would please follow him to school in the mornings, staying at a distance,

So he probably wouldn't notice her.

The neighbour said that since she was up early with her toddler anyway, it would be a good way for them to get some exercise as well, so she agreed.

The next school day, the neighbor and her little girl set out following behind Timmy as he walked to school with another neighbour girl he knew.

She did this for the whole week.

As the two walked and chatted, kicking stones and twigs,

Timmy 's little friend noticed the same lady was following them as she seemed to do every day all week.

Finally she said to Timmy ,

'Have you noticed that lady following us to school all week? Do you know her?'

Timmy nonchalantly replied, 'Yeah, I know who she is.'

The little girl said, 'Well, who is she?'

'That's just Shirley Goodnest ,' Timmy replied, 'and her daughter Marcy .'

' Shirley Goodnest ? Who the heck is she and why is she following us?

'Well,' Timmy explained, 'every night my Mum makes me say the 23rd Psalm with my prayers, 'cuz she worries about me so much.

And in the Psalm, it says, ' Shirley Goodnest (surely goodness ) and Marcy (mercy) shall follow me all the days of my life', so I guess I'll just have to get used to it!'

The Lord bless you and keep you; the Lord make His face to shine upon you, and be gracious unto you; the Lord lift His countenance upon you, and give you peace.

May Shirley Goodnest and Marcy be with you today and always

I know you smiled!

I sure did, Pass this on

And brighten someone's day!

MY DAUGHTER, Lisa... Bob Looney

My single parent friend, Bob Looney, is a true American hero to me.  The ex-Marine from Korean War days and retired postmaster of Portsmouth's Sciotoville, east of P'Town, withstood divorce to be the parental presence in his kid's lives as they matured.  You can sense a lot of maturity in 12 year old Lisa's appreciation of her dad.

Er, uh, Clay. Some wonder why the warning before entering this blog.

My pharmacist nephew, Ronnie White in Oklahoma, should love this one.  Ronnie is Joan Kegley and Jim Dexter White's (both deceased) son.

My wife found out that our dog (a Schnauzer) could hardly hear, so she took it to the veterinarian. The vet found that the problem was hair in the dog's ears. He cleaned both ears, and the dog could then hear fine. The vet then proceeded to tell Andrea that, if she wanted to keep this from recurring, she should go to the store and get some "Nair" hair remover and rub it in the dog's ears once a month.

Andrea went to the store and bought some "Nair" hair remover. At the register, the pharmacist told her, "If you're going to use this under your arms, don't use deodorant for a few days."

Andrea said, "I'm not using it under my arms."

The pharmacist said, "If you're using it on your legs, don't use body lotion for a couple of days."

Andrea replied, "I'm not using it on my legs either. If you must know, I'm using it on my Schnauzer."

The pharmacist says, "Well, stay off your bicycle for about a week."

The old dented bucket... Thanks Judi Cole

I agree with our good friend, Judi Cole.   Thanks  Judi!

Sam

What a great story. Hope you enjoy it.

I sure did.

Judi Cole

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
All men have appreciated the sight of beautiful girlsthroughout history..

In thinking of the truly beautiful girls I have seen in life, they always have the beauty inside as well as out.  This story lets me know that, although beauty  may only be inside in a person, it is still true beauty.  We had such a cousin in Bill Copen, and I must include his story here in my SamKat blog from my unpublished memoirs soon.  Bill had an oversized head and a twisted body from having Ricketts as a baby.
He stayed with our family for a while because my dad, Forest Kegley, Bill's mother's (Lovell Copen) brother, became his best friend and moral supporter.  The laughs all of our ten kids had with Bill still warm my heart and I am so glad that God allowed Bill into our hearts.  Was the true beauty only Bill's?  Thinking now, my dad had true beauty in his heart for his nephew and I am so happy dad passed a little of that on to each of us.

Thank you dad, and thank you our good and glorious God!

Sam Kegley

THE OLD DENTED BUCKET

Our house was directly across the street from the clinic entrance of Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore .. We lived downstairs and rented the upstairs rooms to out-patients at the clinic.

One summer evening as I was fixing supper, there was a knock at the door. I opened it to see a truly awful looking man. "Why, he's hardly taller than my 8-year-old," I thought as I stared at the stooped, shriveled body. But the appalling thing was his face, lopsided from swelling, red and raw.

Yet his voice was pleasant as he said, "Good evening. I've come to see if you've a room for just one night. I came for a treatment this morning from the eastern shore, and there's no bus 'til morning."

He told me he'd been hunting for a room since noon but with no success, no one seemed to have a room. "I guess it's my face .... I know it looks terrible, but my doctor says with a few more treatments .."

For a moment I hesitated, but his next words convinced me: "I could sleep in this rocking chair on the porch. My bus leaves early in the morning."

I told him we would find him a bed, but to rest on the porch.. I went inside and finished getting supper. When we were ready, I asked the old man if he would join us. "No, thank you. I have plenty." And he held up a brown paper bag.

When I had finished the dishes, I went out on the porch to talk with him a few minutes. It didn't take a long time to see that this old man had an oversized heart crowded into that tiny body. He told me he fished for a living to support his daughter, her 5 children, and her husband, who was hopelessly crippled from a back injury.

He didn't tell it by way of complaint; in fact, every other sentence was preface with a thanks to God for a blessing. He was grateful that no pain accompanied his disease, which was apparently a form of skin cancer. He thanked God for giving him the strength to keep going...

At bedtime, we put a camp cot in the children's room for him. When I got up in the morning, the bed linens were neatly folded and the little man was out on the porch.

He refused breakfast, but just before he left for his bus, haltingly, as if asking a great favor, he said, "Could I please come back and stay the next time I have a treatment? I won't put you out a bit. I can sleep fine in a chair." He paused a moment and then added, "Your children made me feel at home. Grownups are bothered by my face, but children don't seem to mind."

I told him he was welcome to come again.

And, on his next trip, he arrived a little after 7 in the morning. As a gift, he brought a big fish and a quart of the largest oysters I had ever seen! He said he had shucked them that morning before he left so that they'd be nice and fresh. I knew his bus left at 4:00 a.m. And I wondered what time he had to get up in order to do this for us.

In the years he came to stay overnight with us, there was never a time that he did not bring us fish or oysters or vegetables from his garden.

Other times we received packages in the mail, always by special delivery; fish and oysters packed in a box of fresh young spinach or kale, every leaf carefully washed. Knowing that he must walk 3 miles to mail these, and knowing how little money he had made the gifts doubly precious.

When I received these little remembrances, I often thought of a comment our next-door neighbor made after he left that first morning.

"Did you keep that awful looking man last night? I turned him away! You can lose roomers by putting up such people!"

Maybe we did lose roomers once or twice. But, oh!, if only they could have known him, perhaps their illnesses would have been easier to bear.

I know our family always will be grateful to have known him; from him we learned what it was to accept the bad without complaint and the good with gratitude to God.

Recently I was visiting a friend, who has a greenhouse, as she showed me her flowers, we came to the most beautiful one of all, a golden chrysanthemum, bursting with blooms. But to my great surprise, it was growing in an old dented, rusty bucket. I thought to myself, "If this were my plant, I'd put it in the loveliest container I had!"

My friend changed my mind. "I ran short of pots," she explained, "and knowing how beautiful this one would be, I thought it wouldn't mind starting out in this old pail. It's just for a little while, till I can put it out in the garden."

She must have wondered why I laughed so delightedly, but I was imagining just such a scene in heaven.

"Here's an especially beautiful one," God might have said when he came to the soul of the sweet old fisherman. "He won't mind starting in this small body."

All this happened long ago - and now, in God's garden, how tall this lovely soul must stand.

The LORD does not look at the things man looks at. Man looks at the outward appearance, but the LORD looks at the heart." (1 Samuel 16:7b)

Friends are very special. They make you smile and encourage you to succeed. They lend an ear and they share a word of praise. Show your friends how much you care. Pass this on, and brighten someone's day.

Nothing will happen if you do not decide to pass it along. The only thing that will happen if you DO pass it on is that someone might smile (because of you).

Senior Social- Reunion at hospital with neice Roseanne

My half-btother, Ted Dunham, and his wife Helen (Keyser) Dunham had daughters, Roseanne and Robin in Portsmouth, Ohio.

It has been many years since Jeanie and I saw Roseanne (Dunham) Evans.  Sadly, Rich Evans, also of Portsmouth Ohio originally, is in OSU University Hospital and Rose is spending time there, attending as best she can to her very sick, heavily sedated,  and lightly respirated husband.

My sister, Sharon, has kept in closest touch with Rose and mostly through the internet.

My youngest sister, Sandy, visited Rose Thursday and returned with Jeanie (Jeanette) and me yesterday.  Sharon was there with her Wednesday.

Ah, the happy times of youth in our Kegley-Dunham family.  Conversation with Roseanne brought so much back about our wonderful Thanksgiving dinners with Dad and Mom and all of the many family members who have passed on.

We hope that the visit was as good for Roseanne as it was for each of us.

And I pray that God's miraculous presence will be with Richard Evans in his illness.

The Hair Cut

Date: Sun, 27 Mar 2011 20:44:57 -0400

A teenage boy had just passed his driving test and inquired of his

father as to when they could discuss his use of the car.

His father said he'd make a deal with his son, "You bring your grades up

from a C to a B average, study your Bible a little, and get your hair

cut. Then we'll talk about the car."

The boy thought about that for a moment, decided he'd settle for the

offer, and they agreed on it.

After about six weeks his father said, "Son, you've brought your grades

up and I've observed that you have been studying your Bible, but I'm

disappointed you haven't had your hair cut."

The boy said, "You know, Dad, I've been thinking about that, and I've

noticed in my studies of the Bible that Samson had long hair, John the

Baptist had long hair, Moses had long hair, and there's even strong

evidence that Jesus had long hair."

(You're going to love the Dad's reply!)

"Did you also notice they all walked everywhere they went?"

Subject: To all My Family & Friends

A successful business man was growing old and knew it was time to choose a successor to take over the business.

Instead of choosing one of his Directors or his children, he decided to do something different. He called all the young executives in his company together.

He said, "It is time for me to step down and choose the next CEO. I have decided to choose one of you. "The young executives were Shocked, but the boss continued. "I am going to give each one of you a SEED today - one very special SEED. I want you to plant the seed, water it, and come back here one year from today with what you have grown from the seed I have given you. I will then judge the plants that you bring, and the one I choose will be the next CEO."

One man, named Jim, was there that day and he, like the others, received a seed. He went home and excitedly, told his wife the story. She helped him get a pot, soil and compost and he planted the seed. Every day, he would water it and watch to see if it had grown. After about three weeks, some of the other executives began to talk about their seeds and the plants that were beginning to grow.

Jim kept checking his seed, but nothing ever grew.

Three weeks, four weeks, five weeks went by, still nothing.

By now, others were talking about their plants, but Jim didn't have a plant and he felt like a failure.

Six months went by -- still nothing in Jim's pot. He just knew he had killed his seed. Everyone else had trees and tall plants, but he had nothing. Jim didn't say anything to his colleagues, however, he just kept watering and fertilizing the soil - He so wanted the seed to grow.

A year finally went by and all the young executives of the company brought their plants to the CEO for inspection.

Jim told his wife that he wasn't going to take an empty pot. But she asked him to be honest about what happened. Jim felt sick to his stomach, it was going to be the most embarrassing moment of his life, but he knew his wife was right. He took his empty pot to the board room. When Jim arrived, he was amazed at the variety of plants grown by the other executives. They were beautiful -- in all shapes and sizes. Jim put his empty pot on the floor and many of his colleagues laughed, a few felt sorry for him!

When the CEO arrived, he surveyed the room and greeted his young executives.

Jim just tried to hide in the back. "My, what great plants, trees and flowers you have grown," said the CEO. "Today one of you will be appointed the next CEO!"

All of a sudden, the CEO spotted Jim at the back of the room with his empty pot. He ordered the Financial Director to bring him to the front. Jim was terrified. He thought, "The CEO knows I'm a failure! Maybe he will have me fired!"

When Jim got to the front, the CEO asked him what had happened to his seed – Jim told him the story.

The CEO asked everyone to sit down except Jim. He looked at Jim, and then announced to the young executives, "Behold your next Chief Executive Officer!

His name is Jim!" Jim couldn't believe it. Jim couldn't even grow his seed.

"How could he be the new CEO?" the others said.

Then the CEO said, "One year ago today, I gave everyone in this room a seed. I told you to take the seed, plant it, water it, and bring it back to me today. But I gave you all boiled seeds; they were dead - it was not possible for them to grow.

All of you, except Jim, have brought me trees and plants and flowers. When you found that the seed would not grow, you substituted another seed for the one I gave you. Jim was the only one with the courage and honesty to bring me a pot with my seed in it. Therefore, he is the one who will be the new Chief Executive Officer!"

* If you plant honesty, you will reap trust

* If you plant goodness, you will reap friends

* If you plant humility, you will reap greatness

* If you plant perseverance, you will reap contentment

* If you plant consideration, you will reap perspective

* If you plant hard work, you will reap success

* If you plant forgiveness, you will reap reconciliation

So, be careful what you plant now; it will determine what you will reap later.

Think about this for a minute....

If I happened to show up on your door step crying, would you care?

If I called you and asked you to pick me up because something happened, would you come?

If I had one day left to live my life, would you be part of that last day?

If I needed a shoulder to cry on, would you give me yours?

This is a test to see who your real

friends are or if you are just someone to talk to you when they are bored.

Do you know what the relationship is between your two eyes?

They blink together,

they move together,

they cry together,

they see things together,

and they sleep together,

but they never see each other;

....that's what friendship is..

Your aspiration is your motivation,

your motivation is your belief,

your belief is your peace,

your peace is your target,

your target is heaven, and life is like hard core torture without it!

It's 'World Best Friends Week'

Who is your best friend?

Send this to all your good friends, even me, if I am one of them.

See how many you get back.

If you get more than 3 then you really are a lovable person...

Save the Earth.... it's the only planet with chocolate!!!!

A send-backer... Thanks Sharon Lundy, my sweet sister

Love this!!!, please send back!!!!!

Concentrate on this Sentence

'To get something you never had, you have to do something you never did.' When God takes something from your grasp, He's not punishing you, but merely opening your hands to receive something better. Concentrate on this sentence... 'The will of God will never take you where the Grace of God will not protect you.' Something good will happen to you today; something that you have been waiting to hear.

This is not a joke; someone will call you by phone or will speak to you about something that you were waiting to hear. Do not break!

Send it to a minimum of 3 people... Not before you read below

There comes a point in your life when you realize:

Who matters,

Who never did,

Who won't anymore...

And who always will.

So, don't worry about people from your past,

there's a reason why they didn't make it to your future.

Give these words to everyone you don't want to lose in 2011

Including me, if that's what is in your heart.

Try to collect 8 ; it's not easy!

Thanks for the weather warning Sam! Juanita Elliott

My brother, Jim, mentioned knowing you to me at our Thanksgiving gathering, Nita. He thinks you are a beautiful girl. We Kegleys are observant!

The snow is also happening here as predicted. I hope this is the last of the winter hits. Jeanie and I want to drive to Lexington for the UK-LSU basketball game, Saturday.

Let us have a moment of silence to think of Jack H Plymale sweating down there in his Costa Rica flower garden. He is probably wearing red and blue Trojan bikini shorts. I am sure that he wouldn't mind chasing you around in his 400 square foot mansion. Even Mr. Plymale, the "dumb old lineman" could probably catch you in there, eventually, if the famed punter Lemon Elliott doesn't visit the place at the same time.

Uh-Oh, I had better quit before JHP returns from the tropics and thaws us all out- you too Sarah Rapp!

By the way, were you reading my SamKat blog or an email, Nita?

I never know who hits on my blog. No Comments- no responses except for my own and I have ten per cent of the hits with my posts. www.skegley.blogspot.com . Thanks to Clay Vice's advertising though, there have been 11,619 hits as of today. Theat's a lot for me, but the Kentucky fans of the old www.wildcatfaithful.com used to give it nearly that many hits in an hour. WCF has been essentially replaced by www.wildcatnation.net. Kentucky fans love their bounceyball.

Shawnee Chief JHPlymale always says: Ball should not be round, dribble or swidh. Ball shouod have points, and lift into the sky end over end or in a smooth spiral for sixty to eighty teepees. The chief learned under the tutelage of Bert Leach, one of P'Town's very smarttest indians.

Sam is thinking seriously... in a dangerous time

I love the irony of the characters in the wizard of Oz. The scarecroiw wanted to get a brain, yet he figured out the various dilemmas Dorothy and her compatriots faced. The lion wanted courage yet he always displayed it outside of his easily weeping. The tin man wanted a heart, yet he always showed compassion throughout. Wonderful story!

Switching to the serious confrontations of America now. Most who know me know that I claim to be a Christian Conservative. I claim no holiness just the forgiveness of our Holy Father through Jesus Christ. A couple of friends recentlyasked if I would vote for Glenn Beck, Bill O'Riley, or Sarah Palin. I certainly would! Any would be ten times and more better than the current president.

A recent email claimed that obama's dislike of our country was from what he claims as our colonialist history. He learned in colonial countries. He has missed some good teaching. Sure there have beern "Ugly Americans" visiting throughout the world as there have been many ugly humans from whatever country.

We have a few sattelite states such as Puerto Rico and a few others, but they aren't suffering from American presence. The land we have paid for from other countries is mainly that to bury our dead fighters who fought for everybody's protection on foreign soils.

Glenn Beck and Bill O'Riley are being severely attacked by o's cohorts and he hopes to quiet them and then any of us who express our dissatisfaction with his efforts to completely change our country by eliminating our freedoms.

I will poorly relate this story by Glenn Beck yesterday on radio:

In Germany the gentleman related back to his kindly father.

When taxes were being increased, his father said: "That's ok, it can't get worse than that."

When police actions against innocent civilians increased, he said the same thing.

When his cousin disappeared mysteriously, again he said: "That's ok, It can't get worse than that."

The Gestapo came and arrested him and took him off to jail. His son visited and his father said: That's ok. It can't get worse than that.

The son learned that a trainfull of German Jews were being trained away. He went to the station and found his father who was last to get on. His son pushed his father into the overfilled train car to allow the door to shut. His father mimicked as the train left for Auchswitz: "That's ok. It can't get worse than that."

He never saw his father again.

I recently wrote that cowards voted for obama. I apologize for that. They were mainly acting wrongheadedly. However, the "o" voters were badly mistaken and should admit their error.

So many friends and family hang to their progressive left leaning ways. I hear : "That's ok. It can't get worse than that."

This narcissistic POUSA will destroy all that he possibly can. If we still have thinking, courage, and compassionas individuals, and if only for our own families, please don't let me hear you say: "That's ok. It can't get worse than that."

I am not meaning to say "Gloom and Doom" because I truly believe that God is so much stronger and wiser and compassionate than the despotic devils who would destroy America.

"Praise God from Whom all blessings flow."

Memories- Yesterday's birthday greetings- Thanks all!

Family and friends,

I received an unbelievable number of birthday greetings from family and friends yesterday when I became 78 years old. Mostly from Facebook. November 13, 1932 was the beginning of my life in Portsmouth Ohio and I am the grateful son of Forest and Mary kegley. I came into the "cultural Center of Our Universe", unrich in worldly goods as so many depression family babies were. But Forest and Mary nourished each of us ten.

Portsmouth was an outstanding place to receive my early nurturing and early friends. Many are still with me and many fine ones have passed on. That, we each learn, is part of this life on earth.

My young girl friend , and granddaughter, Tobey, slightly mentioned to me once that I consider everything to be "profound', and hinted that I am perhaps too serious in that respect. Maybe I am, without the intent to be that way. I am so happy to be her, and each of our grandkids, grandfather.

Anyway, to reflect on the birthday greetings for an old fellow, now, let me tell all that it helps to be remembered on your special days in life.

I thank all who sent me greetings and, even if you didn't, if you even had one good thought of me or my beautiful wife, Jeanie, I want to thank each of you from the bottom of my 78 year old heart.

George & Helen up from FL

Yesterday, we remaining members of Forest and Mary's nuclear family sans Jim, who had to work, met at the Circleville Ponderosa for lunch and a visit.

George and Helen will drive back down south and will visit granddaughters in TN before motoring on dow to Plant City.

Why do I enjoy these visits so much?  They all pick on TIO, The Innocent One, that's me of course, because none pof the others have displayed such innocence.  ;))  Nonetheless, we had a good time.

Blaine and his Portsmouth OH reminiscing... Thanks young Mr. Bierley!

No, Blaine, but thanks for doing it now. I don't think you will mind if I include it in my SamKat blog today- www.skegley.blogspot.com.

I turned 75 on November 13, 2007, five years ahead of you. My good friend, Ronnie Walters (PHS 51) will be 77, this year, just a year younger than me. I mention Ronnie for two reasons; 1- his birthday coming up, and 2- in a recent reminiscence of mine of all of our friends up and down and near McConnell Ave. and Vinton, I forgot to mention him and, as one of my best friends, I never ever should have forgotten to mention Ronnie.

I share so much of your things and, of course, we both shared the "Cultral Center of Our Universe- Portsmouth, Ohio. Now, that is culture if Tom Sawyer ever had any, isn't it?

You are good, Blaine and I always appreciate you and your writing!

“A Bit of Reflection”

There are those landmarks in your life. I think I have a pretty good grasp of what they are. I believe they are when you start elementary school, when you become a teenager, when you go on your first date, when you graduate from high school, when you get your first “real” job, when you get married, when your first child is born, and, perhaps, the ultimate, when you turn 70.

I hit that one on December 30, 2007. I had been retired for twelve years at that point in my life. I have lived in eight decades and in two different centuries. I believe I was born at just about the perfect time. One of my earliest memories is listening to the radio. I grew up listening to shows like “Amos ‘n’ Andy”, “Duffy’s Tavern”, “Edgar Bergan and Charlie McCarthy”, “Mr. Keen, Tracer of Lost Persons”, “Smilin’ Ed’s Buster Brown Gang”, and “Suspense.” I believe I developed my imagination during those years. The first TV set I ever saw was at a neighbor’s house. The screen was small, and the station in Huntington, West Virginia, was only on a few hours a day. The kids in the neighborhood would gather together to watch first the Test Pattern and then enjoy the likes of “Howdy Doody” and “Space Cadets”.

The best part of those times was playing with friends in the Woodrow Wilson Elementary School neighborhood. We would play baseball at the park down at Labold Field in the spring and summer and switch to tackle football in the fall. We also enjoyed flying kites, riding our bicycles, and fishing in the Ohio River. Good old Boy Scout Troop 22 at the First Nazarene Church on Brown Street provided a great education for a young boy.

I was 13 when I got my first “real” job. I helped Jake Lovenguth, our Ideal Milk Company route man, deliver milk (in glass bottles) on Saturdays over across the U. S. Grant Bridge in South Portsmouth and Greenup, Kentucky.

Some of my favorite places were: the Maple Grove Confectionery, down at the end of Jackson Avenue where it intersects with Offner Street, where you could get a great sno cone in the summertime for only a dime. Mr. Book’s store (“As you go by, don’t go by, stop by and buy”) on Jackson Avenue, which had a huge selection of comic books on a big wall rack. Mr. and Mrs. Bard’s little store at the intersection of Charles and Brown Streets, where people bought their candy, cigarettes, and the Sunday News. It was the drop off spot for the Portsmouth Times’ route in our neighborhood of Charles and Williams Streets and Jackson Avenue. There was also the C & Bi (“See & Buy”) Shoppe on Jackson Avenue where you could get a fountain Coke and the representative from the Duncan Yo Yo Company would carve your initials in the yo yo if you bought one there.

Most any white kid growing up in Portsmouth in the early 1950s would happily remember the Terrace Club below the Kendall Avenue hill, where you could swim all day for a quarter or so. On our way home from the swimming pool, before we walked over the Harmon Street Viaduct, we would stop at Bill Ginnetti’s Blue Pig Inn on Gallia Street for a frozen mug of wonderful A & W root beer for only a nickel.

It would be impossible not to remember the great downtown Portsmouth movie theaters of our era, all on Gallia Street, that influenced our growing up: the Lyric, the Columbia, and the LaRoy. They had wonderful Saturday matinees with both popcorn and movie candy available to eat.

I went to Wilson School for eight years. I walked to and from school four times a day, every day. We played on a boy/girl segregated black-topped playground, and the supervising teacher rang a large hand-held bell when it was time for us to come in from recess. We had great teachers at Wilson. Our principal, R. J. Brooker, brooked no nonsense when it came to discipline at the school, and he was also a great science teacher.

Looking back at spending four years at Portsmouth High School (I graduated in 1955) forces me to admit that it was an exceptional school. We had, for the most part, dedicated faculty and administrators, intelligent students, exceptional athletes, and a supporting community. To this day, I count myself fortunate to have attended PHS.

Blaine Bierley

The Wooden Bowl... Thanks Patricia Richards Whitehead (PHS 50)

This great recycle is one of my very favorites.  A few years ago, soon after our young granddaughter, Tobey, saw it she sent me a sweet email saying, among other loving things:  "Grandpa, You will never have to use a wooden bowl. I will take care of you."  None of us want our kids to take care of us as we age, although I can remember many households when I grew up where older parents were living with their offspring and it seemed to work out well.  The oldsters were just important members of the family.

My mother's mother, Mary Clark, widow to Abraham Clark, lived with us for several years before she died and I remember her as one of the sweetest people in this world.  She neither ever scolded me nor my siblings.  I know where my mother, Mary, got her sweetness.

Thanks Pat!

The Wooden Bowl

The Wooden Bowl

I guarantee you will remember the tale of the Wooden Bowl tomorrow, a week from now, a month from now, a year from now.

A frail old man went to live with his son, daughter-in-law, and four-year-old grandson.

The old man's hands trembled, his eyesight was blurred, and his step faltered

The family ate together at the table. But the elderly grandfather's shaky hands and

failing sight made eating difficult. Peas rolled off his spoon onto the floor.

When he grasped the glass, milk spilled on the tablecloth.

The son and daughter-in-law became irritated with the mess.

'We must do something about father,' said the son.

'I've had enough of his spilled milk, noisy eating, and food on the floor..'

So the husband and wife set a small table in the corner.

There, Grandfather ate alone while the rest of the family enjoyed dinner.

Since Grandfather had broken a dish or two, his food was served in a wooden bowl.

When the family glanced in Grandfather's direction, sometimes he had a tear in his eye as he sat alone.

Still, the only words the couple had for him were sharp admonitions when he dropped a fork or spilled food.

The four-year-old watched it all in silence.

One evening before supper, the father noticed his son playing with wood scraps on the floor.

He asked the child sweetly, 'What are you making?' Just as sweetly, the boy responded,

'Oh, I am making a little bowl for you and Mama to eat your food in when I grow up.

' The four-year-old smiled and went back to work.

The words so struck the parents so that they were speechless. Then tears started to stream down their cheeks. Though no word was spoken, both knew what must be done..

That evening the husband took Grandfather's hand and gently led him back to the family table.

For the remainder of his days he ate every meal with the family... And for some reason,

neither husband nor wife seemed to care any longer when a fork was dropped, milk spilled, or the tablecloth soiled.

FW- We are the Survivors Clay Vice- a force and a friend!

Thank you, Mr. Vice! It must be four o'clock and discipline and wisdom is flowing from Clay-O-Clock.  (Inside joke from my book- "Excellence in Athletics in the Portsmouth Area", top of page 243.)

Hopefully, Carol is doing better, Clay. We still pray so.

Very nostalgic....................and a real eye-opener for today's kids!!!

No matter what our kids and the new generation think about us,

WE ARE AWESOME !!!!

OUR LIFE IS LIVING PROOF !!!!

To Those of Us Born

1930 - 1979

At the end of this email is a quote of the month by Jay Leno. If you don't read anything else, please

Read what he said.

Very well stated, Mr. Leno..

TO ALL THE KIDS WHO SURVIVED THE

1930's, 40's, 50's,

60's and 70's!!

We were put to sleep on our tummies in baby cribs covered

With bright colored lead-base paints.

We had no childproof lids on medicine bottles, locks on doors or cabinets and when we rode our bikes,

We had baseball caps

Not helmets on our heads.

As infants & children, we would ride in cars with no car seats, no booster seats, no seat belts, no air bags, bald tires and sometimes no brakes.

Riding in the back of a pick- up truck on a warm day was always a special treat.

We drank water from the garden hose and not from a bottle.

We shared one soft drink with four friends, from one bottle and no one actually died from this.

We ate cupcakes made with Lard, white bread, real butter and bacon. We drank FLAV-OR- AID made with real white sugar. And, we weren't overweight.. WHY?

Because we were always outside playing....that's why!

We would leave home in the morning and play all day, as long as we were back when the streetlights came on..

No one was able to reach us all day. And, we were OKAY.

We would spend hours building our go-carts out of scraps

And then ride them down the hill,

Only to find out we forgot the brakes. After running into the bushes a few times, we learned to solve the problem

We did not have Play stations, Nintendo's and X-boxes. There were no video games, no 150 channels on cable, no video movies or DVD's,

No surround-sound or CD's,

No cell phones,

No personal computers,

No Internet and no chat rooms.

WE HAD FRIENDS and we went outside and found them!

We fell out of trees, got cut, broke bones and teeth and there were no lawsuits from these accidents.

We would get spankings with wooden spoons, switches, ping pong paddles, or just a bare hand and no one would call child services to report abuse.

We ate worms and mud pies

Made from dirt, and

The worms did not live in us forever.

We were given BB guns for our 10th birthdays, made up games with sticks and tennis balls and, although we were told it would happen, we did not put out very many eyes.

We rode bikes or walked to a friend's house and knocked on the door or rang the bell, or just walked in and talked to them.

Little League had tryouts and not everyone made the team.

Those who didn't had to learn

To deal with disappointment.

Imagine that!!

The idea of a parent bailing us out if we broke the law was unheard of. They actually sided with the law!

These generations have produced some of the best

Risk-takers, problem solvers and inventors ever.

The past 50 years have been an explosion of innovation and new ideas. What can kids today do besides push buttons..

We had freedom, failure, success and responsibility, and we learned how to deal with it all.

If YOU are one of them, CONGRATULATIONS!

You might want to share this with others who have had the luck to grow up as kids, before the lawyers and the government regulated so much of our lives for our own good.

While you are at it, forward it to your kids so they will know how brave and lucky their parents were.

Kind of makes you want to run through the house with scissors, doesn't it ?

~

The quote of the month is by

Jay Leno:

'With hurricanes, tornados, fires out of control, mud slides, flooding, severe thunderstorms tearing up the country from one end to another, and with the threat of bird flu and terrorist attacks, are we sure this is a good time to take God out of the Pledge of Allegiance?'

For those that prefer to think that God is not watching over us...go ahead and delete this.

For the rest of us...pass this on.
