I checked Roget's Thesaurus for a few analogical words for amaze and found:
Awe, astound, surprise, stagger, dumfound
in addition to a relatively few other words the astronaut types used, like:
exciting, spiritual and some I cannot immediately recall.
Astraunats and scientists have gained a lot of evidence from studying the sky. Their wondering in amazement at the moon coming between the sun and the earth was so vivid during the eclipse.
More than 60 years ago, I was gazing into a Goodyear Atomic Metallurgy Department microscope at 2,000X magnification (a pittance to today's microscopic magnification) along with my former boss and extremely smart friend, John Henry. John had invited me to transfer into the lab before I could spell 'engineer' or 'technician'. I always thought before that John may have been agnostic, but he spontaneously told me that "no human who has ever looked into the large or small items scientifically on earth should lack faith in creation. There is so much order in the universe."
This Christian, I, am amazed at the lack of faith in God and His gift of Jesus Christ. Of course, in today's America, our government representatives can be ostracized by the far left for mentioning God in observing universal order.
Far more humans have faith than those who do not, in my humble opinion.
