Democrats will do anything to win this election.
Even if it means illegally raiding funds used to pay for police and fire services to pad the pockets of their media consultants and advertise for the most highly publicized midterm election in history.
That's right. If you haven't heard, the Democrats on Columbus City Council
adopted an emergency measure to spend $280,000 on advertisements for the November 6th election.
This is an unprecedented use of funds in a non-municipal election year that no other Ohio cities have attempted
and that the city of Columbus' own charter prohibits.
According to
Section 22 of the City Charter governing emergency measures:
"An emergency measure is an ordinance or resolution for the immediate preservation of the public peace, property, health or safety, or providing for an emergency in the usual daily operation of a municipal department, in which the emergency is set forth and defined in the preamble thereto."
The use of taxpayer funds to advertise for the election clearly fails to meet the standard of an emergency measure.
Additionally, Democrats violated city ordinance CCC §2321.55(C)(2), which states:
Nothing in this section shall be construed to limit the use of public funds to do any of the following:
(1) Produce, present or communicate information about the finances, plans, policies, activities, initiatives, operations, and governmental actions of the city;
(2) Conduct activities intended to promote, enforce and protect the fundamental right to vote in all municipal elections, including, but not limited to, the institution of legal action to protect the right to vote, the expansion of opportunities and eligibility to register and vote, and the undertaking of nonpartisan measures to promote voter registration, education, and participation; or
(3) Engage in election-related communications required by applicable law.
There are no municipal elections on the November 6th ballot.
But wait, there's more!
The Democrats on city council authorized this illegal spending after
Democrats on the Franklin County Board of Elections and
Democrat County Commissioners tried to authorize the same ad buys just weeks ago.
So who is really behind this scheme? We may never know, but
a complaint has been sent to the Auditor of State.
What we do know is that these Democrats have no regard for your tax dollars and only care about one thing - power.
Send the Democrats a message on November 6th by voting Republican up and down the ballot!
