slideshow After a long process, the Portsmouth High School boys varsity basketball coaching position has been filled.
Eugene Collins, an ‘84 graduate of Portsmouth and a 19-year coaching veteran, was hired Thursday night at a school board meeting.
"I think in time that Eugene is going to do a wonderful job," Portsmouth Athletic Director Joe Albrecht said.
Albrecht said coaching candidates came down to Collins and Piketon head coach and MVP of Portsmouth's 1978 state championship team Jeff Lisath, but added that Lisath chose to remain at Piketon.
"To him, his family and his situation, Piketon means a lot to him," Albrecht said. "When he did tell me he wasn't going to (take the position), we knew right away that Eugene was going to do the job," Albrecht said.
Collins will replace Josh Shoemaker, who stepped down from the position to attend graduate school. Shoemaker, with Collins as an assistant coach, led the Trojans to a 9-11 record last season.
Collins spent the first 18 seasons of his coaching career at Shawnee State under Jim Arnzen, Geno Ford and current mens basketball coach Jeff Hamilton.
He stepped away from SSU to enjoy watching his son’s high school basketball career before being talked into the assistant position at his alma mater.
"I'm excited," Collins said. "Being an alumni of Portsmouth and playing back in the 80s when things were pretty good and having a child in the program, I'm really excited."
Despite the sub-.500 record, the Trojans showed some promise last year. This season, almost all of that team's contributors are gone.
"We lost a lot of kids," Collins said. "We had six seniors last year and we lost primarily our whole starting lineup."
With the Southern Ohio Conference rejecting Portsmouth's bid to enter the league earlier this year, the Trojans will likely be in the SEOAL South for the long haul. Even with the bigger schools on the schedule, Collins said Portsmouth can compete.
"My attitude is you play the game and the game is decided between the lines and not necessarily with numbers," Collins said. "The biggest thing is that we're going to be young and until we determine who is going to play, it's going to be a process that will take a little time."
Also at the meeting, Portsmouth hired Dan Stanley as its new head volleyball coach.

Grandparents and Softball book- UK forum thread
This old mind forgets if I had mentioned my newest (seventh- it is only me doing the counting) book: Grandparents and Softball-Girls Love Softball. Anyway, I am adding it to the book titles at the end on this blog with this post. This book should have good regional advertising very shortly. It is small (58 pp on 5x8 format), but I think readers involved with kids' sports (particularly girls' sports) should enjoy it. Don't be the last in your neighborhood to buy it at your local book store.

And another from Jack P:
Sam thanks for sharing with me.I think maybe one of the sadder things
about celebrity is that you never really get to know the people you
found interesting and I am speaking from the viewpoint of the
celebrated. I had a Government finance class once in one of the old
quonset huts behind the commerce college at OSU Alex Grozas brother
,LOU was in the class. Heck of a nice guy, seemed to work hard at
being even nicer, but the strain was obvious.... You're right !! I do
consider you a GOOD,,,,YOUNG.....76.
Thank you, Dave.
Ernie Rigrish did play football at Eastern. I learned only when I interviewed Bill Berry and his son, Jeff, for my "Softball" book, that Bill was Ernie's step father and Ernie was raised in their family. Sarah Rapp also e-mailed me to remind us that Lawrence Daniels was a kicker for Eastern.
If one could check it out, it would be close between Ohio U and Eastern for the number of Portsmouth athletes who played for them. Marshall might be third, but I think only of Steve Duncan, but, of course, Dave Hamilton and Terry Gardner were on the first Marshall team after the fatal plane crash (We Are Marshall). Steve graduated Marshall the year before the crash. Miami of Ohio might well be first though and Cincinnati would be a consideration. I think only of Pat James at UK and no UK basketball players from our area. Adolph Rupp was definitely after Larry Hisle, but he chose professional baseball and Ohio state.
The old P'Town area has fond athletic memories, does it not.

Jack,
You consider me young, but remember I am 76. Jones, Beard, Groza, Rollins, and ?. I had to go to one of my collection of UK Basketball Guides and reading glasses to get James Line. It was 1948 and they won everything but lost to Phillips Oilers, the AAU Champs. They were an important part of the 1948 USA Olympic Team. Adolph rupp helped coach the Olympians. The USA won eight games and the World Championship in London, England. I was sixteen then and highly into sandlot basketball at Highland School courts against the likes of my good friend, Dick Klitch and other fine players, many of whom did not make the highly touted Portsmouth Trojans. Dick only made the Trojans in his senior season and did an outstanding job.
The One UK fellow made AA one year and didn't start the next( perhaps that was sophomore Jim Line, due to the outstanding players returning from the big war in the late forties. The basketball history which has entertained jeanie and me throughout our years (we have been married fifty-seven years) melds together in my mind.
I might even put Issel and Pratt and Macy and Mashburn on the same team at times due to my melting pot of memory.
I have met Wah Wah a couple of times in Lexington. And Marvin Akers (UK43) and his wife became our friends while we served on the UK National Alumni Board together.
Most of the UK players I have met would probably not remember this Mound Park Urchin.
Thanks for the memories, Jack.

Rust Never Sleeps
Thanks to Jay, my older son, for calling my attention to this fine article.
Dr. Mars Fontana was properly considered one of the foremost corrosion experts in the world with LaQue of France. Denison granted me the privilege of attending his corrosion course at Ohio State. Dr. Fontana was a great and humble gentleman who had remarkable abilities in seeing through the chaffe and obtaining the wheat. He granted me an A (he had a reputation of giving all his OSU metallurgy students A's in the course). Dr. Beck was Dr. Fontana's sidekick, who became a cherished friend of mine and I interviewed him for his story in my book "Acquaintances With Integrity". Both Dr. Fonatana and Dr. Beck are now deceased.

Preventing corrosion, replacing metal costs $400 billion a year

Rusted, busted and hard to maintain
• Ohio maintains 14,000 bridges.
It would cost
$4.2 billion to repair all of the corrosion on them. Franklin County maintains 362 bridges.
• Columbus maintains 4,000 miles of water lines in the city and suburbs. Every year, the city fixes 500 to 600 breaks.
• Statewide, there are 7,670 miles of natural gas transmission lines
and 54,000 miles of distri-
bution lines.
• Columbia Gas
maintains 19,161 miles of natural-gas pipes
in 60 counties. The company estimates
that 4,000 miles of pipes are made of
steel or cast iron.
• The U.S. military spends $20 billion
to $30 billion annually fighting rust on ships, planes and other machines.
Sources: Columbia Gas, various government agencies
Rusted, busted and hard to maintain Rust doesn't differentiate between a swing set, a jumbo jet or a bridge that carries thousands of commuters every day.
If it's made of metal, it will rust.
Steelworkers use chemistry and intense heat to turn iron ore into the backbone of buildings and bridges. Despite its great strength, steel is one unstable metal.
It's only a matter of time before the elements repatriate the stable form -- the crumbly reddish-brown flakes of oxidized iron.
Corrosion wears away steel, aluminum, copper and tin. All metals, save for the nobles -- gold, silver and platinum -- succumb to rust.
Rust is a tough, expensive problem that plagues everything from artificial heart valves to the Golden Gate Bridge. The direct cost of preventing corrosion and replacing metals tops $400 billion annually in the United States, according to estimates.
"This is the battle with Mother Nature that we'll never win," said Rudy Buchheit, chairman of the Department of Materials Science and Engineering at Ohio State University.
Buccheit and Gerald S. Frankel, director of the Fontana Corrosion Center at Ohio State, investigate how corrosion weakens beams, pipes, jets and ships, and what can help delay the inevitable.
They warn that this country's bridges, bombers and high-pressure gas lines are operating on borrowed time.
But what is rust? In the simplest terms, corrosion is an electrochemical reaction, Frankel said.
"It's as if you hooked up the two ends of a battery with a wire."
To rust, a steel beam requires water, which contains electrically charged atoms and molecules, just like battery acid.
At one spot on the beam -- think of the negative terminal of a battery -- iron atoms release electrons and combine with oxygen, turning into rust. The electrons travel to another spot on the beam -- think of the positive terminal of a battery -- and combine with hydrogen ions and then oxygen, forming water.
How quick is the process?
Take the Golden Gate Bridge. When workers finish painting one end, it's time to start scraping the other.
Neil Thompson, with Dublin-based DNV Columbus, the country's largest private corrosion lab, said there are some tricks that help postpone the rust process.
For example, the zinc coating on a galvanized steel bucket oxidizes, protecting the steel until the zinc is used up. Chromium in stainless steel helps protect against rust, but it, too, eventually wears out.
One of the best ways to stall rust is to place steel rods in a strong base, such as concrete. The steel could last hundreds of years, Thompson said.
But in bridges, chloride in road salt migrates into the concrete and jump-starts corrosion.
The Ohio Department of Transportation spreads thousands of tons of salt on the state's highways and more than 14,000 bridges each winter.
"About 80 percent of potholes on bridges are due to corrosion," Thompson said. "The product of corrosion is iron and oxygen, and that has six to eight times the volume of the steel.
"It expands and cracks the concrete."
ODOT calls it a "vicious cycle."
"We sacrifice structure but gain safety," said Mike Brokaw, a bridge inspection engineer with the department's central Ohio office.
If the department were to repair all corrosion on Ohio's bridges, it would need $4.2 billion, said Scott Varner, a department spokesman.
"The problem is, once it starts, it spreads like wildfire," said Jim Pajk, Franklin County bridge engineer.
Franklin County, which maintains 362 bridges, recently spent $3 million to replace the steel-reinforced concrete deck on the Greenlawn Avenue Bridge.
The state, county and municipalities strip and overlay damaged decks and seal them against salt penetration. With that, a well-maintained bridge deck will last about 40 years, Pajk said.
Bridges are just a part of the picture. Water, oil and natural-gas pipelines crisscross Ohio and the nation.
Columbus owns about 3,000 miles of water lines and maintains an additional 1,000 miles in the suburbs, said Rick Westerfield, administrator of the city's Power and Water Division.
"Is corrosion the main issue for us? It may well be," Westerfield said.
The city repairs 500 to 600 water main breaks per year.
Westerfield said most underground water pipes are designed to last 60 to 100 years. New pipes are coated -- inside and out -- to keep corrosion away.
And the city's water plants add 1.5 milligrams of zinc orthophosphate to each liter of water. The compound, deemed safe by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, forms a protective coating in the lines and household plumbing.
Each year, Westerfield said, the water division spends $15 million to rehabilitate or replace less than 1 percent of its pipes.
"We're funded at a rate that's assuming the pipes will last more than 100 years."
Across the state, there are 7,670 miles of natural-gas transmission lines and 54,000 miles of distribution lines.
Columbia Gas has 19,161 miles of pipe in 60 counties.
"About 4,000 miles are pipes of steel or cast iron, put in the ground pre-1940 and are near the end of their useful life," company spokesman Ken Stammen said.
Columbia is in the midst of a 25-year, $2 billion program to replace the old lines with plastic or treated metal pipes.
The costs of dealing with corrosion are staggering. But the alternative is worse.
Corrosion has been blamed in natural-gas pipeline explosions, collapsed bridges and crumbling parking garages. Oil spills from ruptured pipelines have damaged wildlife, natural resources and drinking water supplies.
The military estimates that it spends $20 billion to $30 billion annually to fight corrosion of its ships, planes and other machines.
Small wonder the Department of Defense has provided $1.9 million in grants to the University of Akron to create the country's first four-year undergraduate program in corrosion engineering.
The major will be offered as early as in the fall of 2010, said George Haritos, dean of the College of Engineering at Akron.
Meanwhile, scientists are continuing to seek better corrosion protection.
Battelle, for example, has made a coating of nanomaterials that, layered between the primer and top-coat on airplane skins, lights up when corrosion is present.
An early-warning system could enable airlines and the military to make cheaper repairs and reduce flight risk.
Doug Hansen, a senior scientist at the University of Dayton Research Institute, is leading an effort to grow the material that forms oyster shells on the wings of planes, artificial joints and implants.
His team has manipulated oyster blood cells to deposit a thin, salt-water resistant coating of mother-of-pearl on aluminum. At Sheffield Hallam University in England, researchers recently announced that they had encapsulated spores from certain bacteria in a coating that protects aluminum alloys from microbial corrosion, a particular menace for sea vessels.

• Ohio maintains 14,000 bridges.
It would cost
$4.2 billion to repair all of the corrosion on them. Franklin County maintains 362 bridges.
• Columbus maintains 4,000 miles of water lines in the city and suburbs. Every year, the city fixes 500 to 600 breaks.
• Statewide, there are 7,670 miles of natural gas transmission lines
and 54,000 miles of distri-
bution lines.
• Columbia Gas
maintains 19,161 miles of natural-gas pipes
in 60 counties. The company estimates
that 4,000 miles of pipes are made of
steel or cast iron.
• The U.S. military spends $20 billion
to $30 billion annually fighting rust on ships, planes and other machines.

Jack Plymale - Passing Thoughts
Jack,
Profundidity is your blessing, good friend Jack.
Kruschev said he could take us without firing a shot. Osama believes that and is doing so before our very eyes.
God help America... and in the ultimate end, I believe He will. It was just impossible to create Heaven on earth among us humans, but the USA became very close due to Christ-centered, open-minded leaders who stressed "principles".
Thanks again!

Cristo Redentor and my spelling Correction
Blank CORRECTION:
Sadly for me, most of you will neither see nor read my latest book- "Grandparents and Softball". Hint- It may be purchased locally from major bookstores at about $11. It is my first try at fiction and is subtitled: "Girls Love Softball". I send this story on Cristo Redentor because I, quite inadvertently, misspelled the name three times in one paragraph on page 55 of the small book.
My real claim to fame, which I am darn near the only person aware of, is as Scioto County's Spelling Champion (Ohio) among grade schoolers in about 1944 or thereabouts. Things are never as good as we remember and probably never were- or some cliché" close to that.
Sam
July 9, 2007—The 105-foot-tall (38-meter-tall) "Christ the Redeemer" statue in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, was among the "new seven wonders of the world" announced July 7 following a global poll to decide a new list of human-made marvels.
The winners were voted for by Internet and phone, American Idol style. The other six new wonders are the Colosseum in Rome, India's Taj Mahal, the Great Wall of China, Jordan's ancient city of Petra, the Inca ruins of Machu Picchu in Peru, and the ancient Maya city of Chichén Itzá in Mexico.
The contest was organized by the New7Wonders Foundation—the brainchild of Swiss filmmaker and museum curator Bernard Weber—in order to "protect humankind's heritage across the globe." The foundation says the poll attracted almost a hundred million votes.
Yet the competition has proved controversial, drawing criticism from the United Nations' cultural organization UNESCO, which administers the World Heritage sites program (pictures of the newest World Heritage sites).
"This initiative cannot, in any significant and sustainable manner, contribute to the preservation of sites elected by [the] public," UNESCO said in a statement.

Mimi Brodsky Chenfeld- God's a funny guy!
This is an e-mail from my excellent and beautiful Jewish lady friend, Mimi Brodsky Chenfeld- a noted worldwide speaker.
Subj: Gods a funny guy!
GOD ENJOYS A GOOD LAUGH!
There were 3 good arguments that Jesus was Black:
1. He called everyone brother.
2. He liked Gospel.
3. He didn't get a fair trial.
But then there were 3 equally good arguments that Jesus was Jewish:
1. He went into His Father's business.
2. He lived at home until he was 33
3. He was sure his Mother was a virgin and his Mother was sure He was God.
But then there were 3 equally good arguments that Jesus was Italian:
1. He talked with His hands.
2. He had wine with His meals.
3. He used olive oil.
But then there were 3 equally good arguments that Jesus was a Californian:
1. He never cut His hair.
2. He walked around barefoot all the time.
3. He started a new religion.
But then there were 3 equally good arguments that Jesus was an American Indian:
1. He was at peace with nature.
2. He ate a lot of fish.
3. He talked about the Great Spirit.
But then there were 3 equally good arguments that Jesus was Irish:
1. He never got married.
2. He was always telling stories.
3. He loved green pastures.
But the most compelling evidence of all - 3 proofs that Jesus was a woman:
1. He fed a crowd at a moment's notice when there was virtually no food.
2. He kept trying to get a message across to a bunch of men who just didn't get it.
3. And even when He was dead, He had to get up because there was still work to do!
AMEN

UK Softball Team in NCAA Regional Finals
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Jeanie and I are enjoying the NCAA Regional Softball games here in Columbus, OH. Our Cats are in need of a double dip win over no-losses Ohio State today to win it. The assignment is not an easy one for our Wildcats.
UK lost to Brigham Young 2-6 in the opener, but avenged that loss by sending BYU home last night 4-2 after beating Canissius 7-0. OSU is tough, having beaten Canissius and BYU in the tourney. .
The beautifully refurbished OSU stadium isn't close to capacity, maybe approaching half full during Ohio State games. There are probably 100 Cat fans, who are mostly family to the UK players.
It is very common to be able to follow your team in the wonderful game of softball. It is so nice to see these outstanding young lady athletes wearing the blue and white and representing our University of Kentucky so well.

OSU ends the Girls' season.
Congratulations on a fantastic season girls. You did things that haven't been done and this team will be well on it's way to doing even bigger things in the future. You were the pioneers.

Right Troy. OSU is a strong team this year and the Cats came back to tie at two in the third, but OSU had a big fifth inning with two home runs and three additional runs to 2-5. Then in the top of the 7th, OSU scored twice to make the final 2-7.
Congratulations to the Kentucky Wildcat Ladies!
The left fielder of the Cats is Annie Rowlands and she is from Hilliards. Her sister, Meagan, had previously played for Ohio State and coaches Columbus Hartley now.

I also would certainly appreciate those of you who might consider purchasing a copy of my first attempt at fiction- "Grandparents and Softball". It costs around $11 and is available through Joseph Beth and other popular bookkstores. Just a hint that it contains comments about UK and Anystate University which could well be OSU.
Our WCN friends know us well and will believe that promoting the book was not my ulterior motive for this post. Jeanie and I honestly love softbball and particularly enjoy watching our grandaughters play.

2. Sit in silence for at least 10 minutes each day. Talk to God about what is going on in your life. Buy a lock if you have to.
3. When you wake up in the morning complete the following statement, 'My purpose is to__________ today. I am thankful for______________'
4. Eat more foods that grow on trees and plants and eat less food that is manufactured in plants.
5. Drink green tea and plenty of water. Eat blueberries, wild Alaskan salmon, broccoli , almonds & walnuts.
6. Try to make at least three people smile each day.
7. Don't waste your precious energy on gossip, energy vampires, issues of the past, negative thoughts or things you cannot control.
Instead invest your energy in the positive present moment.
8. Eat breakfast like a king, lunch like a prince and dinner like a college kid with a maxed out charge card.
9. Life isn't fair, but it's still good.
10. Life is too short to waste time hating anyone.
11. Don't take yourself so seriously. No one else does.
12. You are not so important that you have to win every argument. Agree to disagree.
13. Make peace with your past so it won't spoil the present.
14. Don't compare your life to others. You have no idea what their journey is all about.
15. No one is in charge of your happiness except you.
16. Frame every so-called disaster with these words: 'In five years, will this matter?'
17. Forgive everyone for everything.
18. What other people think of you is none of your business.
19. GOD heals everything - but you have to ask Him.
20. However good or bad a situation is, it will change.
21. Your job won't take care of you when you are sick. Your friends will. Stay in touch!!!
22. Envy is a waste of time. You already have all you need.
23. Each night before you go to bed complete the following statements: I am thankful for__________. Today I accomplished_________.
24. Remember that you are too blessed to be stressed.
25. When you are feeling down, start listing your many blessings. You'll be smiling before you know it.
Send this to everyone you care about.

Columbo to Obama
From a good and trusted friend:
Columbo to Obama:
Ah . Sorry to bother you Mr. Obama, Sir. .
Excuse me Mr. Obama, I mean President Obama, Sir. Um . . I know you're busy, and important and stuff. I mean running the county is very important and -- ah -- I hate to bother you Sir. I will only take a minute. Ok Sir?
See, I have these missing pieces that are holding me up, and I was wondering Sir, if you could take time out of your busy schedule and help me out. You know, no big deal, just some loose ends and things.
Hey, you have a nice place here! The wife sees houses like this on TV all the time and says boy she wishes she had digs like this you know? Is that painting real? Really? Wow. I saw something like that in a museum once!
Oh, sorry Sir. I didn't mean to get off the track. So if you could just help me out a minute and give me some details, I will get right out of your way. I want to close this case and maybe take the wife to Coney Island or something. Ever been to Coney Island Sir? No? I didn't think so...
Well, listen, anyway, I can't seem to get some information I need to wrap this up. These things seem to either be "Not released" or "Not available." I'm sure it's just an oversight or glitch or something, so if you could you tell me where these things are -- I -- I have them written down here somewhere -- oh wait. Sorry about the smears. It was raining out. I'll just read it to you.
Could you please help me find these things Sir?
1. Occidental College records -- Not released
2. Columbia College records -- Not released
3. Columbia Thesis paper -- "Not available"
4. Harvard College records -- Not released
5. Selective Service Registration -- Not released
6. Medical records -- Not released
7. Illinois State Senate schedule -- Not available
8. Your Illinois State Senate records -- Not available
9. Law practice client list -- Not released
10. Certified Copy of original Birth certificate -- Not released
11. Embossed, signed paper Certification of Live Birth -- Not released
12. Record of your baptism -- Not available
Oh and one more thing Senator, I can't seem to find any articles you published as editor of the Harvard Law Review, or as a Professor at the University of Chicago. Can you explain that to me Sir?
Oh but, hey -- listen! I know you're busy! If this is too much for you right now -- I mean -- tell you what. I'll come back tomorrow. Give you some time to get these things together, You know? I mean, I know you're busy. I'll just let myself out. I'll be back tomorrow. And the day after. .
What's that Mr. President? Who wants to know these things?
We the People of the United States of America ! You know, the ones that vote.

Only a Southerner can show or point out to you the general direction of

All Southerners know exactly when "by and by" is. They might not use the

___
Only a Southerner knows instinctively that the best gesture of solace for a

Niceness Pat Richards Whitehead PHS 1950
Ever have one of those days, when something seems a bit 'off' but you just can't put your finger on it...
Or it seemed like all the people around you just wanted to butt heads...
Or just get into some kind of weird tug of war?
Sometimes you just need to take a fresh new look and get a different perspective on things.
Remember to try your best to show kindness to others...
(sometimes looking at things from their perspective might help.....)
So, when life gets you down...
Remember to just keep going, and keep your head above water...
And you'll get by with a little help from your friends!
To all of my friends and relatives, have a nice day.
Together We Can Make Someone Smile

New political party?
Is it time to form a real new political party.
The third parties have hardley mattered in previous USA voting history, but it is now time to form a new party in America. The incumbents who sit and sit and sit and repeat the errors of the past have served more than their time. Too much of our time.
The USA is not a holy nation, but it has been formed on Christian principles and should remAin in that vein.
Christians have been sitting on their haunches long enough. Let us form and regain the nation we have always been so proud of and that so many have been maimed or killed in battles to preserve.
I don't like the current trend and believe that there are suffficient patriots in our country to win back the country we love before it disintegrates before this generations' eyes.

Judi Cole- Tea Party Inspirational speech
Hi....I can't say that the author is wrong!
At THE TEA PARTY, a black man, Dr. Donald May delivered this message from
the courthouse steps in Lubbock. He electrified the audience like I haven't
seen in a long time. His delivery was masterful. I am sorry you could not
see him in action. Anyway, I thought you might enjoy his words. The news
media was there, but not one word of this man’s appearance ever appeared on
TV or in print, even though he completely dominated the scene.
This is A Time For Courage
April 15, 2009 – 11:49 pm
Ladies and gentlemen, This is a Time For Courage. We are gathered here
today on the Plains of West Texas in common purpose. We are here to remind
our government that this is our country, We the People are still in charge,
and our government is still our servant and not our master. Our Nation’s
founding document is The Declaration of Independence. It tells us that our
rights come from God and not fro m a small group of Elite men and women.
Our Constitution starts with the words “We the People.” Our Constitution
was written for ordinary Americans like you and me. Our Constitution
protects us from our government and from the politicians. Our President has
complained that our Constitution gives ordinary people too much protection.
He has ridiculed us for the high value we place on our Bibles, our guns,
our personal property, and our Liberty. He tells us we do not deserve to
keep the money we have earned. We are told freedom has not worked.
Personal responsibility, free enterprise, and Liberty have not been
effective. Our government will now make more of our decisions for us.
Other than our military, I can think of not one government agency I have
ever found to be helpful. And speaking of our military, how about those
Navy Seals blowing the heads off those three terrorist pirates? Don’t you
just wish our entire government would function with such efficiency,
professionalism, and courage?
We watch in disbelief as our beloved United States is weakened economically,
militarily, and morally by a Radical President and his eager accomplices.
What has taken generations to build is systematically destroyed and
replaced with the same Socialist Evil that brought poverty, destruction, and
d espair to untold hundreds of millions.
The problems we face today have occurred because we have not defended our
Nation from Socialism. For too long we have allowed the wrong people to
make the worst possible decisions. The Bible warns us of class hatred. The
Radical leadership of our government daily fans the evil flames of class
envy.
Our European and Canadian friends beg us to not make the same Socialist
mistakes they did. The President of the European Union warned our President
that his Socialist economic plans are taking the World down the “road to
Hell.” The path to power for Socialists includes taking God and guns from
the citizens. Without spiritual and physical protection, people cannot
defend themselves and their Liberty. They soon become slaves.
We are angered that our President apologizes for the exceptionalism and
heroism of the United States of America. We are deeply troubled he told
others the United States is not a Christian nation.
We are angered that we have been called cowards and racists because we
oppose Socialism. Socialism is not racial. Socialism is an equal
opportunity destroyer.
We are angered that a recent Department of Homeland Security report has
singled out our military men and women who are returning home as being
radical threats. The report also characterizes you and me as right-wing
extremists and radicals because we favor smaller government and lower taxes.
You and I are average citizens who believe just like most of our fellow
Americans. We want our government to leave us alone and to keep its hands
off our money, our religion, or guns, our private property, and our lives.
We demand that our government stop spending money it does not have.
Stop confiscating our money and private property.
Stop printing money.
Stop subsidizing Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, and the other failed financial
institutions and companies.
Mr. President, stop appointing tax cheats to positions of power and
influence.
Mr. President, secure our borders.
Mr. President, do not divert money from our missile defense, F-22 Raptors,
and other vital military equipment. This gives encouragement, aid, and
comfort to our enemies. Protecting us is your number one job.
Mr. President, do not give voting rights to millions of illegal aliens and
felons. You have no more right to create new voters for your benefit than
you do to use our money to buy the 2010 and 2012 Elections.
We gather peacefully here today because there is a growing concern20for what
our government is doing to us and to our future. We fear for the very
survival of our Republic.
Yet there is much to make us hopeful and to fill our hearts with optimism
and courage. This is still our country!
The Constitution of the Unites States belongs to We the People. Our
Constitution still protects us from our government.
Call every possible elected official, including our President, Vice
President, and the Speaker of the House. Demand that they stop stealing our
money and giving it to ACORN and their other political supporters in order
to buy votes.
Call Senators Cornyn and Hutchison, and Representative Neugebauer. Thank
them. Urge them to do much more. Remind them now is a time for action and
not for campaigning.
Volunteer to work on our 2010 Census. Confront ACORN. Keep our Census
honest. We must not allow our President to take control of our Census for
his political advantage.
We must replace as much of our Far Left Congress as possible in 2010. Get
involved. Do not let the ACORN control our 2010 Election.
Talk with someone every day who does not understand our nation’s history and
our great heritage. Tell them why the United States is a good and
prosperous nation. It still remains that brightly l it city on the hill. It
still is the best hope for all mankind.
Talk with all of the young people you can find. They are our future. Many
do not understand what they have and that their future is being destroyed.
Encourage your elected State officials to pass legislation that will protect
us from our Federal government. Governor Rick Perry and others are doing
that right now for Texas. Thank them and pray for them.
This is a time for strong peaceful action. Let us pray that We the People
can quickly return our government to its Constitutional responsibilities.
Our President and Congress were elected to be our servants and not our
masters.
May God help our President and Congress to quickly realize the error of
their ways and stop their reckless and unwarranted spending, cut our taxes,
and reduce the size of our Federal bureaucracy.
If they do not, may God grant us the courage and determination to vote them
out of power next year.
May God richly bless and protect each of you, and our Constitution, as
together we pursue Liberty!

protects us from our government and from the politicians.

At UMass, a nothing school on the college basketball landscape, John Calipari won like he was at Kentucky. At Memphis, a bigger basketball school than UMass but still nothing much to look at when he got there in 2000, Calipari won again like he was at Kentucky.
So what happens now that John Calipari is coaching Kentucky?

I’ll tell you what happens. Kentucky will win like it’s the Boston Celtics. John Calipari will prove himself worthy of Kentucky fans’ applause. John Calipari will prove himself worthy of Kentucky fans’ applause.
College basketball as you know it? It’s over. That sport doesn’t exist anymore, because that sport had a semblance of parity. One year North Carolina is the dominant program. One year it’s UConn. One year it’s Duke or UCLA or Florida. Maybe those teams don’t win the national title the year they’re dominant, or maybe they do. Either way, every year there is a team that, on paper, is the dominant program in college basketball. And every year it’s a different team.
Until now. Until John Calipari merges with Kentucky.
Once Calipari gets Kentucky rolling — and it won’t take him long — Kentucky will be that team. That dominant team. Every year?
Yes. Every year.
Things can go wrong, of course. Players can get hurt or ineligible. A scandal can come along out of nowhere, like the one rocking UConn at the moment. Kentucky itself has been laid low by NCAA violations, back when Eddie Sutton was running amok in Lexington. So things can happen.
But if none of those things happen … it’s over. College basketball will belong to Kentucky. Turn back the clock 50 or 60 years, because it’ll be like that all over again. Kentucky won three national championships in the four seasons between 1948-51. The Wildcats added another in 1958. What happened between 1951 and ‘58? Three trips to the Elite Eight happened. Not even a point-shaving scandal could slow Kentucky down. The Wildcats didn’t field a team in 1953 because of that scandal, then went 25-0 in 1954, but were held out of the NCAA tournament.
The coach then was Adolph Rupp. When he retired in 1972, he had won 876 games, more than anyone in college basketball history. His record stood for 25 years. Rupp was that good at Kentucky.
John Calipari would be that good at Kentucky, too. How could he not? He has been Kentucky-good at places that couldn’t hold Kentucky’s jock.
In 1988, Calipari went to Massachusetts, which hadn’t been to the NCAA tournament in more than 25 years, and soon he was making it look easy. UMass averaged 29 wins per season from 1992-96, and reached the 1996 Final Four. There was the Marcus Camby scandal, with Camby’s relationship to an agent costing him his eligibility and UMass its spot in the Final Four, and heads will roll if that happens at Kentucky.
But if that doesn’t happen, Calipari will win huge. He’ll win like he won at Memphis, where he won at least 33 games in each of the past four seasons and reached the 2008 NCAA title game.
Calipari will win like that at Kentucky, and maybe as soon as Year 1. Kentucky has two future pros, forward Patrick Patterson and guard Jodie Meeks, but neither is quite ready for the NBA. If they come back, and if Calipari brings just two of the incoming freshman studs he has lined up at Memphis — say, Xavier Henry and DeMarcus Cousins — Kentucky would enter next season among the preseason favorites to win the national title. One year after going to the NIT.
Calipari is that good, because he attracts that kind of talent. You can question how he attracts that talent, and you can question the character of some of the talent he attracts, and those are legitimate issues for someone to tackle. But those are issues for another day.
Today, the issue is the merger of John Calipari and Kentucky basketball. He’s going to get that school rolling again, because that’s what he does. UMass had been stalled for 25 years, but he got that program up and rolling. Memphis had been stuck in neutral until he got that place rolling.
He’ll get Kentucky rolling, too. Heaven help anyone who gets in the way.

Prayer for Sam and his family- Personal
The fifth of May is an important Mexican holiday. I didn't sleep a lot last night, but not for that memory of the fifth of May. Today, I am to be evaluated and I hope to be declared eligible for a cochlear implant.
I have not been conducting interviews recently for new books because of my poor hearing. I could write a truly funny book if I could remember all of my interpretations of the spoken word versus what was actually said.
Like a kid on Christmas morning, I anticipate the test results. I have prayed to our wonderful Advocator, Jesus and his Father, God, that my hearing can be technologically restored. Certainly I believe Christ could perform another miracle, but I do not honestly pray for that. The complexities of this world are far more important than Sam Kegley's hearing problems.
I earnestly seek for those of you who know me and are of a mind to, to offer a prayer for the possibility that an operation may be scheduled for the implant.
Thanks friends and family. I believe those around me would enjoy it, perhaps even more than me.

Columbine- Touching and eerily tonic- Nita Elliott
Subject: Touching and eerily ironic
Guess our national leaders didn't expect this, hmm? On Thursday, Darrell Scott, the father of Rachel Scott, a victim of the Columbine High School shootings in Littleton , Colorado , was invited to address the House Judiciary Committee's subcommittee. What he said to our national leaders during this special session of Congress was painfully truthful.
They were not prepared for what he was to say, nor was it received well. It needs to be heard by every parent, every teacher, every politician, every sociologist, every psychologist, and every so-called expert! These courageous words spoken by Darrell Scott are powerful, penetrating, and deeply personal. There is no doubt that God sent this man as a voice crying in the wilderness. The following is a portion of the transcript:
"Since the dawn of creation there has been both good & evil in the hearts of men and women.. We all contain the seeds of kindness or the seeds of violence. The death of my wonderful daughter, Rachel Joy Scott, and the deaths of that heroic teacher, and the other eleven children who died must not be in vain. Their blood cries out for answers.
"The first recorded act of violence was when Cain slew his brother Abel out in the field. The villain was not the club he used.. Neither was it the NCA, the National Club Association. The true killer was Cain, and the reason for the murder could only be found in Cain's heart.
"In the days that followed the Columbine tragedy, I was amazed at how quickly fingers began to be pointed at groups such as the NRA.. I am not a member of the NRA. I am not a hunter. I do not even own a gun... I am not here to represent or defend the NRA - because I don't believe that they are responsible for my daughter's death. Therefore I do not believe that they need to be defended. If I believed they had anything to do with Rachel's murder I would be their strongest opponent.
I am here today to declare that Columbine was not just a tragedy -- it was a spiritual event that should be forcing us to look at where the real blame lies! Much of the blame lies here in this room. Much of the blame lies behind the pointing fingers of the accusers themselves. I wrote a poem just four nights ago that expresses my feelings best.
Your laws ignore our deepest needs,
Your words are empty air.
You've stripped away our heritage,
You've outlawed simple prayer.
Now gunshots fill our classrooms,
And precious children die.
You seek for answers everywhere,
And ask the question "Why?"
You regulate restrictive laws,
Through legislative creed.
And yet you fail to understand,
That God is what we need!
" Men and women are three-part beings. We all consist of body, mind, and spirit. When we refuse to acknowledge a third part of our make-up, we create a void that allows evil, prejudice, and hatred to rush in and wreak havoc. Spiritual presences were present within our educational
systems for most of our nation's history. Many of our major colleges began as theological seminaries. This is a historical fact. What has happened to us as a nation? We have refused to honor God, and in so doing, we open the doors to hatred and violence. And when something as terrible as Columbine's tragedy occurs -- politicians immediately look for a scapegoat such as the NRA. They immediately seek to pass mor e restrictive laws that contribute to erode away our personal and private liberties. We do not need more restrictive laws. Eric and Dylan would not have been stopped by metal detectors. No amount of gun laws can stop someone who spends months planning this type of massacre. The real villain lies within our own hearts.
"As my son Craig lay under that table in the school library and saw his two friends murdered before his very eyes, he did not hesitate to pray in school. I defy any law or politician to deny him that right! I challenge every young person in America , and around the world, to realize that on April 20, 1999, at Columbine High Schoolprayer was brought back to our schools. Do not let the many prayers offered by those students be in vain. Dare to move into the new millennium with a sacred disregard for legislation that violates your God-given right to communicate with Him. To those of you who would point your finger at the NRA -- I give to you a sincere challenge..... Dare to examine your
own heart before casting the first stone!
My daughter's death will not be in vain! The young people of this country will not allow that to happen!"
Do what the media did not - - let the nation hear this man's speech.. Please send this out to everyone you can.

Thanks Bob Shaner- DSCC- Why go to Church?
BlankSubject: Fw: Why Go To Church?
If you're spiritually alive, you're going to love this! If you're spiritually dead, you won't want to read it. If you're spiritually curious, there is still hope!
Why Go To Church?
A Church goer wrote a letter to the editor of a newspaper and complained that it made no sense to go to church every Sunday. "I've gone for 30 years now," he wrote, "and in that time I have heard something like 3,000 sermons. But for the life of me, I can't remember a single one of them. So, I think I'm wasting my time and the pastors are wasting theirs by giving sermons at all."
This started a real controversy in the "Letters to the Editor" column, much to the delight of the editor. It went on for weeks until someone wrote this clincher:
"I've been married for 30 years now. In that time my wife has cooked some 32,000 meals. But, for the life of me, I cannot recall the entire menu for a single one of those meals. But I do know this.. They all nourished me and gave me the strength I needed to do my work. If my wife had not given me these meals, I would be physically dead today. Likewise, if I had not gone to church for nourishment, I would be spiritually dead today!" When you are DOWN to nothing... God is UP to something! Faith sees the invisible, believes the incredible and receives the impossible! Thank God for our physical AND our spiritual nourishment!
All right, now that you're done reading, send it on! I think everyone should read this! "When Satan is knocking at your door, simply say, "Jesus, could you get that for me?"
