My sister Sandy, Cory's great aunt, called and left this message: Cory not speaking , but has been progressing per the doctors.

Welcome
Welcome to my blog http://www.skegley.blogspot.com/ . CAVEAT LECTOR- Let the reader beware. This is a Christian Conservative blog. It is not meant to offend anyone. Please feel free to ignore this blog, but also feel free to browse and comment on my posts! You may also scroll down to respond to any post.
For Christian American readers of this blog:
I wish to incite all Christians to rise up and take back the United States of America with all of God's manifold blessings. We want the free allowance of the Bible and prayers allowed again in schools, halls of justice, and all governing bodies. We don't seek a theocracy until Jesus returns to earth because all men are weak and power corrupts the very best of them.
We want to be a kinder and gentler people without slavery or condescension to any.
The world seems to be in a time of discontent among the populace. Christians should not fear. God is Love, shown best through Jesus Christ. God is still in control. All Glory to our Creator and to our God!
A favorite quote from my good friend, Jack Plymale, which I appreciate:
"Wars are planned by old men,in council rooms apart. They plan for greater armament, they map the battle chart, but: where sightless eyes stare out, beyond life's vanished joys, I've noticed, somehow, all the dead and mamed are hardly more than boys(Grantland Rice per our mutual friend, Sarah Rapp)."
Thanks Jack!
I must admit that I do not check authenticity of my posts. If anyone can tell me of a non-biased arbitrator, I will attempt to do so more regularly. I know of no such arbitrator for the internet.

Thanks Dave Miller! bill cosby has done it again ...
Subj: Fw: Bill Cosby has done it again!]
Bill Cosby has a great way of "distilling" things. Looks like he's done it again! AMERICANEEDS A CANDIDATE WITH THIS PLATFORM!!
I HAVE DECIDED TO BECOME A WRITE-IN CANDIDATE FOR PRESIDENT IN THE YEAR 2012.. HERE IS MY PLATFORM:
(1). Any use of the phrase: 'Press 1 for English' is immediately BANNED!!!. English is the official language; speak it or wait outside of our borders until you can.
(2). We will immediately go into a two year isolationist attitude in order to straighten out the greedy big business posture in this country. America will allow NO imports, and we'll do no exports. We will use the 'Wal-Mart's policy, 'If we ain't got it, you don't need it.' We'll make it here and sell it here!
(3). When imports are allowed, there will be a 100% import tax on it coming in here.
(4). All retired military personnel will be required to man one of the many observation towers located on the southern border of the United States (six month tour). They will be under strict orders not to fire on SOUTHBOUND aliens.
(5). Social Security will immediately return to its original state. If you didn't put nuttin in, you AIN'T gettin nuttin out.. Neither the President nor any other politician will be able to touch it.
(6). Welfare. -- Checks will be handed out on Fridays, at the end of the 40 hour school week, the successful completion of a urinalysis test for drugs, and passing grades.
(7). Professional Athletes -- Steroids? The FIRST time you check positive you're banned from sports ... for life.
(8). Crime -- We will adopt the Turkish method, i.e., the first time you steal, you lose your right hand. There is no more 'life sentences'. If convicted of murder, you will be put to death by the same method you chose for the victim you killed: gun, knife, strangulation, etc.
(9). One export of ours will be allowed: wheat; because the world needs to eat. However, a bushel of wheat will be the EXACT price of a barrel of oil.
(10). All foreign aid, using American taxpayer money, will immediately cease and the saved money will help to pay off the national debt and, ultimately, lower taxes. When disasters occur around the world, we'll ask The American People if they want to donate to a disaster fund, and each citizen can make the decision as to whether, or not, it's a worthy cause.
(11). The Pledge of Allegiance will be said EVERY day at school and every day in CONGRESS.
(12). The National Anthem will be played at all appropriate ceremonies, sporting events, outings, etc. My apology is offered if I've stepped on anyone's toes .... nevertheless.... GODBLESS AMERICA ! Sincerely, Bill Cosby

How is Cory doing response 1-29-10 AM
Hi deb,
No we haven't since last Sunday. We are trying to keep up with his progress through my sisters and other family members. He has been moved to a trauma unit from the ICU and he is responding to requests, moving his arms and legs and otherwise still coming out of the coma. Medications to keep him sedated are off. The doctors tell the family that he is doing well and we are encouraged.
We need to continue praying and his community is still right there in supporting Mick, Laramie, Kayla and, of course Cory. There are over 3500 on the page of Facebook "I am Praying for Cory Lundy" and 100-200 new ones signing up on that each day. Prayers are being offered from all over the world for our boy.
Jeanie and I are driving to Lexington for the UK Vanderbilt game Saturday and hope to stop by the Miami Valley hospital on the way home.
The Kegley-Lundy clan appreciates your interest and all of the great support system for Cory.
Thanks,
Sam
PS- I am bcc many friends with this message and putting it in my blog if you don't mind. Debbie Russell is a good Portsmouth friend to me and Jeanie.

Watter or coke? Thanks Chuck Ludwig!
Subject: Water or Coke
I could not believe this...... Very interesting
WATER
#1. 75% of Americans are chronically dehydrated..
(Likely applies to half the world population)
#2. In 37% of Americans, the thirst mechanism is so weak
that it is mistaken for hunger.
#3. Even MILD dehydration will slow down one's metabolism as 3%.
#4. One glass of water will shut down midnight hunger pangs
for almost 100% of the dieters studied in a University of
Washington study.
#5. Lack of water, the #1 trigger of daytime fatigue.
#6. Preliminary research indicates that 8-10 glasses of
water a day could significantly ease back and joint pain
for up to 80% of sufferers.
#7. A mere 2% drop in body water can trigger fuzzy short-term
memory, trouble with basic math, and difficulty focusing on
the computer screen or on a printed page.
#8.. Drinking 5 glasses of water daily decreases the risk of
colon cancer by 45%, plus it can slash the risk of breast
cancer by 79%., and one is 50% less likely to develop
bladder cancer.. Are you drinking the amount of water
you should drink every day?
COKE
#1. In many states the highway patrol carries
two gallons of Coke in the trunk to remove blood from
the highway after a car accident.
#2. You can put a T-bone steak in a bowl of Coke
and it will be gone in two days.
#3. To clean a toilet: Pour a can of Coca-Cola into the
toilet bowl and let the 'real thing' sit for one hour,
then flush clean. The citric acid in Coke removes
stains from vitreous china..
#4. To remove rust spots from chrome car bumpers:
Rub the bumper with a rumpled-up piece of Reynolds
Wrap aluminum foil dipped in Coca-Cola.
#5. To clean corrosion from car battery terminals: Pour
a can of Coca-Cola over the terminals to bubble
away the corrosion.
#6. To loosen a rusted bolt: Apply a cloth soaked in Coca-Cola
to the rusted bolt for several minutes.
#7. To bake a moist ham: Empty a can of Coca-Cola into
the baking pan, wrap the ham in aluminum foil, and bake.
Thirty minutes before ham is finished, remove the foil, allowing the drippings to mix
with the Coke for a sumptuous brown gravy.
#8... To remove grease from clothes: Empty a can of Coke
into the load of greasy clothes, add detergent, and run
through a regular cycle.. The Coca-Cola will help loosen
grease stains. It will also clean road haze from your
windshield.
FOR YOUR INFORMATION:
#1 the active ingredient in Coke is phosphoric acid.
It will dissolve a nail in about four days. Phosphoric
acid also leaches calcium from bones and is a major
contributor to the rising increase of osteoporosis.
#2. To carry Coca-Cola syrup! (the concentrate) the
commercial trucks must use a hazardous Material place
cards reserved for highly corrosive materials.
#3. The distributors of Coke have been using it to clean
engines of the trucks for about 20 years!
Now the question is, would you like a glass of water?
or Coke?

See but a crabby old man ... Thanks Clay and Carol Vice- Old friends
I have to be considered an old man, at 77, Clay and I know you aren't far behind me. Like my compatriots, I worry about my short time memory and the further decrepitation I must face as an older man. But I see a loving God throughout my life. The things I do I should not and the things I should do I don't in so many instances. God made nothing, in all our varied interests, as interesting as people. Art, history, nature's beauty, crafts, literature, world wonders, are there for our taking as we age, and these things enrich our lives.
I love this poem and it gives a lot of life's experiences most humans, man or woman, face with age. What the caretakers may see outwardly of us aged is but a shell. Will they know of the great experiences of Clay or Carol Vice with their girls' softball programs. Perhaps not. But you guys have contributed so much richness to the culture of Portsmouth Ohio and this world and its inhabitants.
Thanks for sharing this. It just makes this old fellow think ...

Amazing poem...
I appreciate it even more as I age before my own eyes...
CRABBY OLD MAN
When an old man died in the geriatric ward of a
nursing home in North Platte , Nebraska , it was believed that he had
nothing left of any value.
Later, when the nurses were going through his meager possessions,
they found this poem. Its quality and content so impressed the staff that
copies were made and distributed to every nurse in the
hospital. One nurse took her copy to Missouri ..
The old man's sole bequest to posterity has since
appeared in the
Christmas edition of the News Magazine of the St..
Louis Association for Mental Health.. A slide presentation has also been
made based on his simple, but eloquent, poem.
And this little old man, with nothing left to give to
the world, is now the author of this 'anonymous' poem winging across the
Internet.
Crabby Old Man
What do you see nurses? .. . . .. . What do you see?
What are you thinking . . . . . When you're looking at
me?
A crabby old man . . . .. . Not very wise,
Uncertain of habit . . . . . With faraway eyes?
Who dribbles his food . .. . . .. And makes no reply.
When you say in a loud voice . . . . . 'I do wish
you'd try!'
Who seems not to notice . . . . . The things that you
do.
And forever is losing . . . . . A sock or a shoe?
Who, resisting or not . . ... . . Lets you do as you
will,
With bathing and feeding . . . . . The long day to
fill?
Is that what you're thinking? . . . . . Is that what
you see?
Then open your eyes, nurse . . . . . You're not
looking at me.
I'll tell you who I am. . . . . . As I sit here so
still,
As I do at your bidding, . . . . . As I eat at your
will.
I'm a small child of Ten . . . .. . With a father and
mother,
Brothers and sisters . . . . .. Who love one another.
A young boy of Sixteen . . . . With wings on his feet.
Dreaming that soon now . . . . . A lover he'll meet.
A groom soon at Twenty . . . . . My heart gives a
leap.
Remembering, the vows . .. .. . . That I promised to
keep.
At Twenty-Five, now . . . . . I have young of my own.
Who need me to guide . . . . . And a secure happy
home.
A man of Thirty . . . . . My young now grown fast,
Bound to each other . . . . . With ties that should
last.
At Forty, my young sons . . . . . Have grown and are
gone,
But my woman's beside me . . . . . To see I don't
mourn.
At Fifty, once more, babies play 'round my knee,
Again, we know children . . .. . . My loved one and
me.
Dark days are upon me . . . . . My wife is now dead.
I look at the future . .... . . . Shudder with dread.
For my young are all rearing . . . . . Young of their
own.
And I think of the years . . . . . And the love that
I've known.
I'm now an old man . . . . . And nature is cruel.
Tis jest to make old age . . . ... . Look like a fool.
The body, it crumbles . .. . . . Grace and vigor
depart.
There is now a stone . .. . . Where I once had a
heart.
But inside this old carcass . . . . . A young guy
still dwells,
And now and again . . . . . My battered heart swells.
I remember the joys . . . . .. I remember the pain.
And I'm loving and living . . . . . Life over again.
I think of the years, all too few . . . .. . Gone too
fast.
And accept the stark fact . . . . That nothing can
last.
So open your eyes, people . . . . . Open and see.
Not a crabby old man . . . Look closer . . . See ME!!
Remember this poem when you next meet an older person
who you
might brush aside without looking at the young soul
within.
We will all, one day, be there, too!

Sharon is better after her procedures. No news about Cory
Thanks Sharon!
I called Sharon after receiving this and she feels better than after her procedures yesterday. She hears nothing form Mick or Laramie yet this morning and we stay with assuming that is essentially good news at this point.
Love you sweet sister, Sharon!

Each and everyone one of us are going through tough times right now,
but God is getting ready to bless you in a way that only He can. Keep
the faith.
My instructions were to pick four people that I wanted God to bless,
and I picked you. Please pass this to at least (4) people you want to
be blessedThis prayer is powerful, and prayer is one of the best gifts
we receive.
There is no cost but a lot of rewards. Let's continue to pray for one
another.
The prayer:
Father, I ask You to bless my friends, relatives and those that I care
deeply for, who are reading this right now. Show them a new revelation
of your love and power. Holy Spirit, I ask You to minister to their
spirit at this very moment. Where there is pain, give them your peace
and mercy. Where there is self-doubt, release a renewed confidence
through your grace. Where there is need, I ask you to fulfill their
needs. Bless their homes, families, finances, their goings and their
comings. In Jesus' precious name.... Amen.
(If the Lord lays upon
your heart to send this to more than four people, you are truly
blessed).
I called Sharon after receiving this and she feels better than after her procedures yesterday. She hears nothing form Mick or Laramie yet this morning and we stay with assuming that is essentially good news at this point.
Love you sweet sister, Sharon!

Laramie called this morning with great news about Cory. They removed the bolt. He is now totally off sedation medication, but it might take up to 24 hours to get out of his system. He is still on pain medication. He has responded when asked about putting fingers up, putting 2 up, 3 ect. He opened his eyes when asked and they are going to slowly wean him from the ventilator starting today. The doctors did not say how long this would take- hours, days? It just depends on how he does coming off. They also had him sitting in a medical chair today. Mick and the nurses slid him on to a flat bed that moves into a chair. They said if he could sit in that for 30 min. that would be good. Laramie is very happy and surprised it is now moving so quick, which is a good thing.:) He will not be moved to a different floor until he is off the ventilator and can eat and drink by himself.

Linda Garrett (Laramie Lundy's mother) update!
Linda Garrett Today has been a "miraculous" day. He has been sitting in a chair for 30 mins. Moving both arms and legs. Breathing on his own, but is still connected to the respirator. We are hopeful that he will be off of it soon....the nurse said he is ready!

Laramie encouraged
Sandy is in the lobby of OSU where Sharon is having biopsie tissues taken. Missy is with Sharon.
Missy called Laramie who said that they had Cory in a chair after removing the "bolt' from the top of his head. He was cognizant although heavily sedated. He has the tube in his throat. The respirator is off and he is breathing on his own. Laramie seems encouraged.
Sandy is the queen of Kegleys, especially when any of us are sick.

I just heard from Mick and they have removed the pressure sensor from Cory's head (aka "the bolt"). Now the next step will be to start to wake Cory up - not sure when exactly that will happen. We'll keep you informed on what we hear.

This is long about sportsmanship from my good referee Wildcat friend and fan
I am proud to say that Lighthouse of www.wildcatnation.net is a friend of mine. I first read his article in today's www.silkroadsand siamesesmiles.com from Afghanistan. That URL belongs to Dawood Kahn or Dave Kaelin another much respected friend through WCN. Please read. It is well worth any sportsman's time.

Sportsmanship, What Happened? Very long read.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Who’s at Fault?
Webster describes sportsmanship as, “a fairness, courtesy, being a cheerful loser etc.” How far have we come from the time in our country when that was a meaningful description? I’m ashamed to say, too far. Who’s to blame? Again I’m ashamed to admit, me, you, parents, coaches, administrators, rules makers, officials, in other words, we are all guilty in one way or the other.
We in Kentucky are very fortunate to have many outstanding athletes at all levels who compete each year in a multitude of sports on the gridirons, fields and courts. These student athletes are coached by a dedicated group of professionals and are supported by thousands of parents and fans. However, the Kentucky High School Athletic Association reports that approximately 700 players and coaches are ejected from high school contests each year due to unsportsmanlike conduct. (The breakdown is 80% athletes, 20% coaches. No statistics are kept on fan ejections, which could easily surpass those of players and coaches). When you add in the NCAA in all sports and levels, it’s mind boggling.
During my nearly 30 years of officiating basketball, football, baseball, and softball, I have seen the decline in sportsmanship in all sports at all levels. I have had the privilege of officiating every level, especially basketball, from small children to the old ABA professional level. I felt blessed to officiate every game, but have personally experienced several upsetting situations. One was at a peewee football game; a dad ran out of the stands and yelled at his son that he would whip him if this much bigger kid knocked him down again. At a DII basketball game; police had to be called to control a coach who the next day was fired because of his behavior. I had to remove a scorekeeper and have fans escorted out. We had to stop a college basketball game because four teenagers were using thick rubber bands to shoot nails at the opposing players. Finally they were arrested. And I could go on and on. I feel very fortunate to have only ejected a few players or coaches.
As you can imagine, I’ve endured a lot of verbal abuse. I guess I’ve heard every vulgar name you can think of. I once had a school administrator threaten me on my way to the locker room at halftime. One of my friends received a very nasty letter, anonymously of course. One official was shot at with a BB gun, they missed. Some of this stuff you expect, but some of it, certainly not. One fact I’m particularly ashamed of, Christian schools are among the worst. I heard this comment from a High School official, “Those Christians, they pray before the game and then all hell breaks loose.” And I have to admit it’s true because I witnessed it myself.
I strongly believe the underlying problem is the lack of respect that individuals have for each other and for authority in our society. Many people feel they can say whatever they want to whomever they want. This particularly seems to apply to individuals in positions of authority. All you have to do is ask school teachers, policemen, even parents. And, the problem is widespread.
We recently witnessed trash talking used to get in the heads of opposing players, and it seemed to be supported by the coach. We hear vulgar chants from fans, and they are not all students, but it is never addressed by school administrators. Hence, a message of support. This language is allowed in the classroom, so why not in the gym. Our students learn in the gym just like they do in a science lab. This lack of respect detracts from the otherwise positive benefits derived from sports participation.
I challenge everyone associated with athletics to make good sportsmanship a priority. Set a positive example to reinforce these critically important values associated with interscholastic sports participation. I propose the following specific measures to improve sportsmanship and the student athlete experience.
ATHLETES
Just play the game! Concentrate on your performance, not on putting down your opponent. Whether you’re a professional or in middle school, realize you are a role model, and you have someone looking up to you, so set a good example.
COACHES
Hold your players accountable for their conduct. Remember, you control your players’ most precious commodity-playing time. Don’t allow your players to engage in unsportsmanlike behavior. Set the proper example with your own conduct. Your players will take their lead from how you behave. Never allow your players to abuse opponents under any circumstances. Never berate the officials. If you disagree with a call, ask (in a gentlemanly manner) for an explanation of what the official saw. If you feel you can “bait” an official, simply scratch him, because the other coach probably feels the same way. If you’re both right, that official has no business on the court anyway.
ADMINISTRATORS
Create an atmosphere at your athletic venues where good sportsmanship is expected. Don’t allow your students to engage in vulgar chants or demean the other team. Have zero tolerance for any act that is not in the interest of good sportsmanship. Use athletic contests as an opportunity to teach positive values. Control your coaches, after all, they are teachers of young adults and you would never allow a science professor to act like some coaches do.
FANS
A spectator’s ticket for admission must be considered an opportunity to watch the performance of highly impressionable athletes from children thru college and even into adults. It’s not a license to abuse coaches, players, officials or other fans. Fans must understand that attending a game is a privilege and should be treated as such. Fans should focus on positively encourage their teams and not engage in demeaning conduct toward opponents. Fans need to understand they are subject to removal from the premises if they exhibit inappropriate behavior. Officials are going to make bad calls, players are going to make mistakes, and coaches are not always going to play the players fans think they should play.
OFFICIALS
We must shoulder some of the blame for the deterioration of sportsmanship. When we fail to address unsportsmanlike actions by coaches and players, we do a disservice to the game. We must have the courage and conviction to address those situations. When it comes to dealing with unsportsmanlike acts, we have broad discretion in our responses, from verbal warnings to ejections. Remember, enforcing rules related to poor sportsmanship, and all rules, is our job. The game is there for you, you are not there for the game. You know the rule for walking so, call it whether it happens in the paint or 30 feet out. It does have an effect on the game. If you allow a coach to “bait or work” you and you turn a deaf ear because you’re worried about your rating, please for the betterment of the game, turn in your stripes!
Everyone associated with athletics must take responsibility for improving sportsmanship. From player to coach to official, we are all equal partners in promoting the positive values inherent to interscholastic participation. No matter what your role is in the game, do YOUR part to support good sportsmanship.

I first read your tremendously honest and to-the-point-of-sportsmanship article on Dave's www.silkroadsandsiamesesmiles.com blog just a few minutes ago, Lighthouse. I came to the forum to post it and was happy to see that you already had.
I tutor math at a Columbus State Community College and, to the contrary, I am amazed at the courtesy of the students towards the faculty and towards each other. I know this isn't typical behavior in today's society, and particularly not among our young. The students in our Developmental Education Department are mostly from black families and many are from African nations. The common thing among them is that many are paying for an education and are earnestly seeking and working towards their goals.
I agree with all of your points, Steve and I respect you for refereeing. Personally, I would much rather play a sport than referee and I played amateur softball for over sixty years. The guys who love sports and referee, particularly basketball, forever have my gratitude and respect, although at times I am sure some didn't think so.
I consider it a distinct pleasure to know Steve, (Lighthouse) Curly's childhood friend, and a fellow WCN poster. We are so lucky to be in the company of Kentucky Wildcat fans and wildcatnation posters.
You, sir, are a great American and citizen of this world!

BEAVERCREEK — It’s been 10 days since he spoke with his 17-year-old son Cory, but Mick Lundy said Monday, Jan. 25, “has been a good day.”
Critically injured in a traffic accident Jan. 15, the Beavercreek High School junior was still in a coma at Miami Valley Hospital, but his condition was upgraded from critical to serious.
“A CT scan done this morning turned up no bad news. We’re taking that as good news,” said Lundy, who said his son “has been moving his arms and legs with a purpose. We can’t wait to see him open his eyes. We’re hoping for a full recovery.”
Cory is a junior at Beavercreek High School, where he plays wide receiver on the football team and the outfield for the baseball team.
He was alone in a pickup truck when he apparently lost control and drove off Shakertown Road west of U.S. 35, hitting a guardrail.
He has been in a coma since surgeries to remove bone fragments from his brain and to repair lacerations in his stomach and intestines.
On Tuesday , Lundy said doctors plan to remove a “bolt” monitoring his son’s brain pressure. “That’s also good news. He’s been stable since 11 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 21. They always say that with a brain injury the most important time is the first 72 hours. The next is the first 10 days. Now we’re past that.”
Friends of Cory and his family have posted signs of support in several locations. One at U.S. 35 and Fairfield Road on Monday urged, “Get well soon, Cory.” Another offered prayers for his recovery.
“The support from the Beavercreek community has been tremendous,” said Lundy, a State Farm insurance agent in the city. “I think it’s going to do him a lot of good when he finds out how many people care about him.”
He added that only family members are permitted to visit Cory in the hospital for the time being.

This is from a close friend with the utmost common sense
It is a tragedy that I cannot correctly link the YouTube. You will have to copy and paste it in message to yourself. Such truth that our elitist supposed leaders don't want us Tea Party people aware of.
Watch this video about the health care bill (HB 3200).
This video explains what our government health plan (HB 3200) will mean to the citizens of America.
Watch this video and see what the President and Senators Reid and Polosi want for YOU.
This is the biggest slap in the face of liberty and freedom to ever be written.
Get scared of the (Socialistic, Communistic, Fascist) health plan our government is pushing on our citizens.
This is a warning, if we do not stop this bill we are ignorant, foolish, stupid and uncaring of ourselves and our posterity
Just what is going on in Washington???
Eagle One is watching!

Sing along with the song below if you remember the tune.
40 Yrs Later: The 7 Children In 'The Sound of Music'
'The Sound of Music' won the Academy Award for Best Picture of 1965 and is one of the most popular musicals ever produced.
Remember the 7 children of the Trapp family?
They were having a reunion after 40 years
and all were looking healthy and amazingly well....
NOW CURRENTLY...
It wouldn't be funny if it weren't so true... Julie Andrews turned 69 and to commemorate her 69th birthday on October 1, actress/vocalist Julie Andrews made a special appearance at Manhattan 's Radio City Music Hall for the benefit of the AARP. One of the musical numbers she performed was "My Favourite Things" from the legendary movie "The Sound Of Music."
Here are the actual lyrics she used:
Maalox and nose drops and needles for knitting,
Walkers and handrails and new dental fittings,
Bundles of magazines tied up in string,
These are a few of my favourite things.
Cadillac's and cataracts, and hearing aids and glasses,
Polident and Fixodent and false teeth in glasses,
Pacemakers, golf carts and porches with swings,
These are a few of my favourite things...
When the pipes leak, When the bones creak,
When the knees go bad,
I simply remember my favourite things,
And then I don't feel so bad.
Hot tea and crumpets and corn pads for bunions,
No spicy hot food or food cooked with onions,
Bathrobes and heating pads and hot meals they bring,
These are a few of my favourite things..
Back pains, confused brains, and no need for sinnin',
Thin bones and fractures and hair that is thinnin',
And we won't mention our short, shrunken frames,
When we remember our favourite things.
When the joints ache, When the hips break,
When the eyes grow dim,
Then I remember the great life I've had,
And then I don't feel so bad.
Ms. Andrews received a standing ovation from the crowd that lasted over four minutes and repeated encores. Please share Ms. Andrews' clever wit and humour with others who would appreciate it.

Thanks Dr. Hovermale,... I think. Muslims ... WOW
How ironic and traitorous that the libs, even with the small numbers of muslims in America, tricked our voters into electing a muslim PUSA. Osama, the devil, planned this and it is more sinister than 911. God help this land You helped to flourish in the name of Christianity and of the many good works of the same kind of people. The selfish and the jealous are always trying to take us down. The Christian faith and a free world are the true stuff of life!
All Christians all over the world remain as sinners but love Your Son and You.

It takes a moment but it is worth the read.
Adapted from Dr. Peter Hammond's book: Slavery, Terrorism and Islam: The Historical Roots and Contemporary Threat
Islam is not a religion, nor is it a cult. In its fullest form, it is a complete, total, 100% system of life.
Islam has religious, legal, political, economic, social, and military components.
The religious component is a beard for all of the other components.
Islamization begins when there are sufficient Muslims in a country to agitate for their religious privileges.
When politically correct, tolerant, and culturally diverse societies agree to Muslim demands for their religious privileges, some of the other components tend to creep in as well..
Here's how it works:
As long as the Muslim population remains around or under 2% in any given country, they will be for the most part be regarded as a peace-loving minority, and not as a threat to other citizens. This is the case in:
United States -- Muslim 0..6%
Australia -- Muslim 1.5%
Canada -- Muslim 1.9%
China -- Muslim 1.8%
Italy -- Muslim 1.5%
Norway -- Muslim 1.8%
At 2% to 5%, they begin to proselytize from other ethnic minorities and disaffected groups, often with major recruiting from the jails and among street gangs.
This is happening in:
Denmark -- Muslim 2%
Germany -- Muslim 3.7%
United Kingdom -- Muslim 2.7%
Spain -- Muslim 4%
Thailand -- Muslim 4.6%
From 5% on, they exercise an inordinate influence in proportion to their percentage of the population.. For example, they will push for the introduction of halal (clean by Islamic standards) food, thereby securing food preparation jobs for
Muslims. They will increase pressure on supermarket chains to feature halal on their shelves -- along with threats for failure to comply. This is occurring in:
France -- Muslim 8%
Philippines -- 5%
Sweden -- Muslim 5%
Switzerland -- Muslim 4.3%
The Netherlands -- Muslim 5.5%
Trinidad & Tobago -- Muslim 5.8%
At this point, they will work to get the ruling government to allow them to rule themselves (within their ghettos) under Sharia, the Islamic Law. The ultimate goal of Islamists is to establish Sharia law over the entire world.
When Muslims approach 10% of the population, they tend to increase lawlessness as a means of complaint about their conditions. In Paris , we are already seeing car-burnings. Any non-Muslim action offends Islam, and results in uprisings and threats, such as in Amsterdam , with opposition to Mohammed cartoons and films about Islam. Such tensions are seen daily, particularly in Muslim sections, in:
Guyana -- Muslim 10%
India -- Muslim 13.4%
Israel -- Muslim 16%
Kenya -- Muslim 10%
Russia -- Muslim 15%
After reaching 20%, nations can expect hair-trigger rioting, jihad militia formations, sporadic killings, and the burnings of Christian churches and Jewish synagogues, such as in:
Ethiopia -- Muslim 32.8%
At 40%, nations experience widespread massacres, chronic terror attacks, and ongoing militia warfare, such as in:
Bosnia -- Muslim 40%
Chad -- Muslim 53.1%
Lebanon -- Muslim 59.7%
From 60%, nations experience unfettered persecution of non-believers of all other religions (including non-conforming Muslims), sporadic ethnic cleansing (genocide), use of Sharia Law as a weapon, and Jizya, the tax placed on infidels, such as in:
Albania -- Muslim 70%
Malaysia -- Muslim 60.4%
Qatar -- Muslim 77.5%
Sudan -- Muslim 70%
After 80%, expect daily intimidation and violent jihad, some State-run ethnic cleansing, and even some genocide, as these nations drive out the infidels, and move toward 100% Muslim, such as has been experienced and in some ways is on-going in:
Bangladesh -- Muslim 83%
Egypt -- Muslim 90%
Gaza -- Muslim 98.7%
Indonesia -- Muslim 86.1%
Iran -- Muslim 98%
Iraq -- Muslim 97%
Jordan -- Muslim 92%
Morocco -- Muslim 98.7%
Pakistan -- Muslim 97%
Palestine -- Muslim 99%
Syria -- Muslim 90%
Tajikistan -- Muslim 90%
Turkey -- Muslim 99.8%
United Arab Emirates -- Muslim 96%
100% will usher in the peace of 'Dar-es-Salaam' -- the Islamic House of Peace. Here there's supposed to be peace, because everybody is a Muslim, the Madrasses are the only schools, and the Koran is the only word, such as in:
Afghanistan -- Muslim 100%
Saudi Arabia -- Muslim 100%
Somalia -- Muslim 100%
Yemen -- Muslim 100%
Unfortunately, peace is never achieved, as in these 100% states the most radical Muslims intimidate and spew hatred, and satisfy their blood lust by killing less radical Muslims, for a variety of reasons.
'Before I was nine I had learned the basic canon of Arab life. It was me against my brother; me and my brother against our father; my family against my cousins and the clan; the clan against the tribe; the tribe against the world, and all of us against the infidel. -- Leon Uris, 'The Haj'
It is important to understand that in some countries, with well under 100% Muslim populations, such as France, the minority Muslim populations live in ghettos, within which they are 100% Muslim, and within which they live by Sharia Law. The national police do not even enter these ghettos. There are no national courts, nor schools, nor non-Muslim religious facilities. In such situations, Muslims do not integrate into the community at large. The children attend madrasses. They learn only the Koran. To even associate with an infidel is a crime punishable with death. Therefore, in some areas of certain nations, Muslim Imams and extremists exercise more power than the national average would indicate.
Today's 1.5 billion Muslims make up 22% of the world's population. But their birth rates dwarf the birth rates of Christians, Hindus, Buddhists, Jews, and all other believers. Muslims will exceed 50% of the world's population by the end of this century.

If were playing them in "Colombia" then we better get out of town quick. Customs can be a real pain in the arse.
I think we pull that game out myself. I'm least looking forward to the Vandy @ Vandy game.

Still one game at a time. Come home 20-0 from South Carolina and Jeanie and I will attend the Vandy game Saturday! Our fondest hope besides disliking the Vandy fans nearly as much as the l fans. Please forgive the anxiety of these elders.
Great job by the team against Arkansas!
Forget the ifs. If Meeks had stayed- If Gillispie were still here- if Patterson went pro- If we didn't get Calipari- if the freshmen did not come- if Knight were taken off the airways-... etc. Let us enjoy these Kentucky Wildcats! The true UK basketball entertainment factors are back.

If were playing them in "Colombia" then we better get out of town quick. Customs can be a real pain in the arse.
I think we pull that game out myself. I'm least looking forward to the Vandy @ Vandy game.

"I do solemnly swear that I will faithfully execute the office of President of the United States, and will to the best of my ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States." --Article II, Section I, U.S. Constitution
On Wednesday, 27 January, Barack Hussein Obama will deliver his first "State of the Union" speech as president, a self evaluation of his first year's achievements.
Sprinkled between his infamous "let me be clear" or "make no mistake" introduction to his prevarications, he will, characteristically, attempt to spin a plethora of failures into something good using these phony fallback phrases: back from the brink; signs of recovery; restored our reputation; achieved some successes; more work yet to do; fiscal restraint; greed on Wall Street; affordable health care; relief for working families; job creation and, of course, investing in America, a euphemism for taxing and spending.
He'll also use the word "inherited," as in "I inherited this mess." He'll speak of "unprecedented" reforms or achievements or challenges. And he'll mention "those who seek to do us harm," but he won't dare utter the term "Islamic terrorists."
In advance of his teleprompted propaganda, then, let's take a reality check on Obama and his first year.
Never before in the history of our great nation has any sitting president held so much disregard and outright contempt for our Constitution and Rule of Law.
Perhaps the operative words in his oath were, "to the best of my ability"?
Of course, what were we to expect from a Marxist, whose views on government and economy were shaped by his surrogate father and communist mentor, Frank Marshall Davis; whose first campaign for political office was launched by Maoist anarchists William Ayers and Bernardine Dohrn; whose political career has been stewarded by the likes of Leftists Richard Daley, Michael Pfleger, Khalid al-Mansour, Rashid Khalidi, et al.
And don't forget his religious mentor, Jeremiah Wright, who married Barack and Michelle and baptized their children.
Wright preached hate, plain and simple: "The government lied about inventing the HIV virus as a means of genocide against people of color. The government gives [black people] drugs, builds bigger prisons, passes a three-strikes law and then wants us to sing 'God Bless America.' No, no, no, g-d d--- America. G-d d--- America for treating our citizens as less than human. G-d d--- America."
Wright sermonized that our great nation is in fact the "U.S. of KKK-A" and is "controlled by and run by rich white people. Racism is how this country was founded and how this country is still run. We believe in white supremacy and black inferiority and believe it more than we believe in god. And god has got to be sick of this sh-t!"
How did Obama respond when asked about his pastor's perennial anti-American tirades? "It sounds like he was trying to be provocative," concludes Obama.
At a foundational level, Obama's ability and his agenda have been shaped first and foremost by his condition as a pathological narcissist, a young man driven by a blinding need for acceptance and its coefficient, power -- the result of a childhood characterized by his father's, and then stepfather's, rejection.
It should be noted that the young Barry Obama did not ask for or deserve the hardship he suffered as a child any more than millions of other children abandoned by their fathers today. In that respect, he deserves our compassion.
However, Obama's insatiable pathological need for power renders him a very dangerous person in power.
He was elected on a promise that should have served as a warning sign: "This is our moment, this is our time to turn the page on the policies of the past, to offer a new direction. We are fundamentally transforming the United States of America."
He ran his charismatic campaign on a promise of "hope," but in the words of Patrick Henry, "It is natural to man to indulge in the illusions of hope. We are apt to shut our eyes against a painful truth -- and listen to the song of that siren, till she transforms us into beasts."
As for "fundamentally transforming" our nation, that is a thinly veiled reference to an outright assault on our Constitution and our Essential Liberty, one that thrusts an ever more powerful central government upon us.
Not since 1860 has the Union been at such odds with the fundamental rights of the States and the People.
Obama's effort to endow the central government with absolute authority follows his Socialist political playbook, Saul Alinsky's "Rules for Radicals."
Obama was elected just weeks after an economic collapse which can be tied directly to Leftist economic policies.
His effort to "Reclaim America" involves taxing and borrowing more than a trillion dollars from the private sector, sifting it through the bureaucracies of his political appointees, then "investing" it into the public sector to grow government and pay off his special interest constituencies and other benefactors.
He is plundering private sector resources under the pretense of private sector "job creation."
He has attempted, with some success, to nationalize, by way of regulation, coercion or "investment," the major industrial and service segments of the economy -- including energy, banking, investment, education, insurance, automotive and real estate -- and he has supplanted free enterprise with Socialism.
He is endeavoring to nationalize our nation's largest single economic sector, health care, and he laughs off any suggestion that there is no constitutional authority for such folly. Moreover, the House version creates 111 new oversight bureaucracies. (1)
He has attempted to advance his domestic agenda on a global scale under the guise of "climate change."
Further, Obama's national security failures present even greater peril to life and liberty.
Coddling Islamic extremists, bowing to Saudi kings, apologizing to the world, politicizing terrorist interrogation methods at Gitmo, treating terrorism as "criminal activity" and moving the trial of 9/11 mastermind Khalid Sheikh Mohammed to New York, using Operation Enduring Freedom as campaign fodder and setting a timeframe for withdrawal from Afghanistan -- these and many more grossly errant policy decisions served only to hinder and demoralize us and our allies while empowering and emboldening our enemies, thus enabling jihadi attacks against our uniformed Patriots abroad, and even domestically, such as the murder of 12 soldiers, one civilian, and an unborn baby at Ft. Hood.
Of course, there were other ridiculous gaffes, like the one at his last public press conference (six months ago), when he offered his impromptu assessment of the arrest of his friend, Harvard professor Henry Louis Gates, by claiming that the Cambridge Police "acted stupidly." His subsequent "beer summit" was a forced and feeble attempt at damage control.
And then there was the Nobel Peace Prize, a ridiculous Euro-leftist albatross of an award that was bestowed upon Obama just days after he ascended to the presidency.
Were it not for the threat of unbridled laughter, Obama's SOTU address might also reflect on some of the most egregious prevarications from his brief tenure.
On his plans for massive government expansion: "Not because I believe in bigger government -- I don't."
On his grand Socialist schemes: "I've never bought into these Malthusian, woe, Chicken Little, the earth is falling -- I tend to be pretty optimistic."
On the so-called "stimulus package" (i.e., record debt): "Less than one month after taking office, we enacted the most sweeping recovery package in history, and we did so without any of the earmarks, pork-barrel projects that are usually accompanying these big -- these big bills."
On bailouts for behemoth auto producers: "Let me be clear. The United States government has no interest in running GM. We have no intention of running GM."
On his friends at ACORN: "You know, it's -- frankly, it's not really something I've followed closely. I didn't even know that ACORN was getting a whole lot of federal money."
On blame shifting: "You haven't seen me out there blaming the Republicans."
On taxes: "I will tax just the rich. I want to give a tax cut to the middle class."
On the cost of ObamaCare: "It won't add to the deficit. And I mean it! ... It's designed to lower it!" And how about this one: "I have not said I am in favor of a single-payer system."
On the transparency of his health care "reform" deliberations: "It's going to be on C-SPAN."
On jobs (record unemployment): "My administration has created or saved... [ad nauseam]." (2)
On the political influence of grassroots Tea Party participants: "Those people waving their little tea bags around..."
Clearly, Obama has underestimated the influence of those who support America's First Principles. In addition, he has also grossly misread his mandate as the heir of the once-noble Democratic Party.
These miscalculations were manifest in the recent Virginia and New Jersey gubernatorial elections, and again this week in Massachusetts.
Who woulda thunk it -- that in the most liberal state of the union, whose legislature hastily amended laws so the governor could immediately appoint a Demo replacement for the seat vacated by the U.S. Senate's most liberal member, Ted Kennedy, who had occupied the seat for 47 years since the departure of his brother, JFK, and whose life ambition was to nationalize health care, whose designated replacement, Martha Coakley ran on his platform -- who woulda thunk that a Democrat who just weeks ago held a 30-point lead in the polls would be defeated by Scott Brown, a moderate Republican state legislator of the Mitt Romney variety, who ran on a platform against nationalized health care?
Clearly, the loss of a Senate seat in Massachusetts is a major reality check for Obama. When asked about the rising rejection of his "vision" for America, Obama responded, "I think the assumption was if I just focus on policy, if I just focus on this provision or that law or if we're making a good rational decision here, then people will get it."
In other words, "The people are just too dumb to get it."
And speaking of "the people," when Scott Brown was asked in his last debate with Coakley if he would be willing to "sit in Teddy Kennedy's seat" and vote against the health care bill, he responded, "Well, with all due respect, it's not the Kennedy seat, and it's not the Democrats' seat, it's the people's seat."
Every Republican and Independent running for election or re-election in 2010 should, first, take that cue from Brown -- the seats they seek belong to the people. Second, they should take a cue from Ronald Reagan, who left a timeless template for success: Run on a platform that, first and foremost, insists on the re-establishment of constitutional Rule of Law, and then governs accordingly.
For too long, too many Americans have been complacent about liberty, believing it to be their birthright and the birthright of generations to come. They have enjoyed the fruit of liberty defended by others, taking rights for granted and knowing nothing of the obligations for maintaining that blessing.
Most Americans have never had to fight for liberty and, thus, have little concept of its value or any sense of gratitude for its accumulated cost -- a cost paid by generations of Patriots who have pledged their Lives, their Fortunes and their Sacred Honor.
The election of Barack Hussein Obama was an egregious affront to our legacy of Essential Liberty, and a clarion call to action for the many good citizens who honor the rights and obligations of citizenship.
As was the case with the first American Revolution, we now face a crucial battle for liberty. The upcoming elections, more than any other in recent history, are about the restoration of constitutional integrity.
Fellow Patriots, this is our time. The road to recovery is long, but the momentum is with us.
Footnotes: 1. With the election of Brown, ObamaCare in its present form is dead, but expect Obama to call for passage of revised legislation, which has support of both Republicans and Democrats. Once passed, it can then be readily amended.
2. Credit where credit due -- Obama's recovery plan has not created any real jobs, but it did secure new employment for at least three Republicans: One in Virginia, one in New Jersey and now one in Massachusetts.

Sharon's Cory News 1-22-10 9:48 PM
Cory's holding his own tonight and we are hopeful that the brain
pressure numbers stay low through the night. He had a good day today
and no one was allowed back except Mick and Laramie to see him. They
are keeping his room dark and quiet with no visitors. Sandy and I did
not go to the hospital today since I had two bone marrow procedures and
they were trying to keep Cory quiet. I will let you know of any
changes in Cory but if I don't write it is because he is holding his
own and there is nothing new to report. I can't thank you enough for
your concern, care, and prayers. It is very comforting to know that
we are not alone.

FW: Must Read - The Ant & Grasshopper ver. 2.0
This one is a little different.... Two Different Versions................. Two Different Morals
OLD VERSION
Theant works hard in the withering heat all summer long, building his house and laying up supplies for the winter.
Thegrasshopper thinks theant is a fool and laughs and dances and plays the summer away..
Come winter, theant is warm and well fed.
Thegrasshopper has no food or shelter, so he dies out in the cold.
MORAL OF THE STORY: Be responsible for yourself!
MODERN VERSION
Theant works hard in the withering heat and the rain all summer long, building his house and laying up supplies for the winter.
Thegrasshopper thinks the ant is a fool and laughs and dances and plays the summer away.
Come winter, the shiveringgrasshopper calls a press conference and demands to know why theant should be allowed to be warm and well fed while he is cold and starving.
CBS, NBC , PBS, CNN,and ABC show up to provide pictures of the shiveringgrasshopper next to a video of theant in his comfortable home with a table filled with food.
America is stunned by the sharp contrast.
How can this be, that in a country of such wealth, this poorgrasshopper is allowed to suffer so?

How can this be, that in a country of such wealth, this poorgrasshopper is allowed to suffer so?

update from a family friend/neighbor:
I just got off the phone from Laramie and it has been a bit of a roller coaster ride today, when they were expecting an uneventful day. Mick left the hospital around 5:30 this morning to go home and See Kayla for her birthday. Cory just had a good 24 hours where he was on medication where he was reactive to agitation. His pressures would climb while he was agitated and come back down, which is good. When Laramie and Mick got back to the hospital around 8 am Cory's pressure levels were high again without any agitation. No one knows why. The nurse had called the doctor who ordered a CT scan. After reviewing the CT scan the doctor found the brain had shifted slightly again (due to swelling). No surgery is needed because they put him back on the heavier medication where he will be nonreactive- basically just out. His pressures dropped back to where they should be which is good. They are not allowing visitors because he just can't handle any kind of stimuli now. They won't do anything tomorrow.
Mick and Laramie appreciate all of your prayers and kind thoughts. Tonight they are hopefully going to go to a quick dinner at the Spaghetti Warehouse w/ 16 family members to celebrate Kayla's birthday. :) Report

Subject: Cory Update
Hi all,
Cory's temperature came back down but he now has pneumonia which is not
uncommon and infact they told us he would get it. Usually people get
it before the third day but because Cory is so strong (and youth helps)
it happened on his fifth day. We are through the 72 hour crucial
period and that is a good sign! The head of the trauma dept. came in
to see him today and was pleased with him still. His coloring looks
much better even to me. They are going to keep him in a coma until
Fri. and then try weaning him off of it again. If his numbers for his
pressure in the brain spike again they plan to do a brain scan to
determine if something else is going on. Tomorrow is Kayla's birthday
and we all plan to go out to eat to celebrate her birthday. She has
been upset by this whole thing naturally and feeling very insecure and
left out. I won't be getting home until much later and unless things
turn drastically worse I will not write so consider "no news as good
news." Thanks for everything...prayers, e-mails, calls and
visits...they are comforting and it helps so much to know you all care
so very much.
Love,
Sharon

Subject: Obama Takes First Step in Banning All Firearms
On Wednesday Obama Took the First Major Step in a Plan to Ban All Firearms in the United States
On Wednesday the Obama administration took its first major step in a plan to ban all firearms in the United States . The Obama administration intends to force gun control and a complete ban on all weapons for US citizens through the signing of international treaties with foreign nations. By signing international treaties on gun control, the Obama administration can use the US State Department to bypass the normal legislative process in Congress. Once the US Government signs these international treaties, all US citizens will be subject to those gun laws created by foreign governments. These are laws that have been developed and promoted by organizations such as the United Nations and individuals such as George Soros and Michael Bloomberg. The laws are designed and intended to lead to the complete ban and confiscation of all firearms.
The Obama administration is attempting to use tactics and methods of gun control that will inflict major damage to our 2nd Amendment before US citizens even understand what has happened. Obama can appear before the public and tell them that he does not intend to pursue any legislation (in the United States) that will lead to new gun control laws, while cloaked in secrecy, his Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton is committing the US to international treaties and foreign gun control laws. Does that mean Obama is telling the truth? What it means is that there will be no publicized gun control debates in the media or votes in Congress. We will wake up one morning and find that the United States has signed a treaty that prohibits firearm and ammunition manufacturers from selling to the public. We will wake up another morning and find that the US has signed a treaty that prohibits any transfer of firearm ownership. And then, we will wake up yet another morning and find that the US has signed a treaty that requires US citizens to deliver any firearm they own to the local government collection and destruction center or face imprisonment.
This is not a joke nor a false warning. As sure as government health care will be forced on us by the Obama administration through whatever means necessary, so will gun control.

U.S. reverses stance on treaty to regulate arms trade
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The United States reversed policy on Wednesday and said it would back launching talks on a treaty to regulate arms sales as long as the talks operated by consensus, a stance critics said gave every nation a veto.
The decision, announced in a statement released by the U.S. State Department, overturns the position of former President George W. Bush's administration, which had opposed such a treaty on the grounds that national controls were better.

U.S. reverses stance on treaty to regulate arms trade

WASHINGTON

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The United States reversed policy on Wednesday and said it would back launching talks on a treaty to regulate arms sales as long as the talks operated by consensus, a stance critics said gave every nation a veto.
The decision, announced in a statement released by the U.S. State Department, overturns the position of former President George W. Bush's administration, which had opposed such a treaty on the grounds that national controls were better.
U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said the United States would support the talks as long as the negotiating forum, the so-called Conference on the Arms Trade Treaty, "operates under the rules of consensus decision-making."
"Consensus is needed to ensure the widest possible support for the Treaty and to avoid loopholes in the Treaty that can be exploited by those wishing to export arms irresponsibly," Clinton said in a written statement.
While praising the Obama administration's decision to overturn the Bush-era policy and to proceed with negotiations to regulate conventional arms sales, some groups criticized the U.S. insistence that decisions on the treaty be unanimous.
"The shift in position by the world's biggest arms exporter is a major breakthrough in launching formal negotiations at the United Nations in order to prevent irresponsible arms transfers," Amnesty International and Oxfam International said in a joint statement.
However, they said insisting that decisions on the treaty be made by consensus "could fatally weaken a final deal."
"Governments must resist US demands to give any single state the power to veto the treaty as this could hold the process hostage during the course of negotiations. We call on all governments to reject such a veto clause," said Oxfam International's policy adviser Debbie Hillier.
The proposed legally binding treaty would tighten regulation of, and set international standards for, the import, export and transfer of conventional weapons.
Supporters say it would give worldwide coverage to close gaps in existing regional and national arms export control systems that allow weapons to pass onto the illicit market.
Nations would remain in charge of their arms export control arrangements but would be legally obliged to assess each export against criteria agreed under the treaty. Governments would have to authorize transfers in writing and in advance.
The main opponent of the treaty in the past was the U.S. Bush administration, which said national controls were better. Last year, the United States accounted for more than two-thirds of some $55.2 billion in global arms transfer deals.
Arms exporters China , Russia and Israel abstained last year in a U.N. vote on the issue.
The proposed treaty is opposed by conservative U.S. think tanks like the Heritage Foundation, which said last month that it would not restrict the access of "dictators and terrorists" to arms but would be used to reduce the ability of democracies such as Israel to defend their people.
The U.S. lobbying group the National Rifle Association has also opposed the treaty.
A resolution before the U.N. General Assembly is sponsored by seven nations including major arms exporter Britain . It calls for preparatory meetings in 2010 and 2011 for a conference to negotiate a treaty in 2012.
