Welcome

Welcome to my blog http://www.skegley.blogspot.com/ . CAVEAT LECTOR- Let the reader beware. This is a Christian Conservative blog. It is not meant to offend anyone. Please feel free to ignore this blog, but also feel free to browse and comment on my posts! You may also scroll down to respond to any post.

For Christian American readers of this blog:

I wish to incite all Christians to rise up and take back the United States of America with all of God's manifold blessings. We want the free allowance of the Bible and prayers allowed again in schools, halls of justice, and all governing bodies. We don't seek a theocracy until Jesus returns to earth because all men are weak and power corrupts the very best of them.
We want to be a kinder and gentler people without slavery or condescension to any.

The world seems to be in a time of discontent among the populace. Christians should not fear. God is Love, shown best through Jesus Christ. God is still in control. All Glory to our Creator and to our God!

A favorite quote from my good friend, Jack Plymale, which I appreciate:

"Wars are planned by old men,in council rooms apart. They plan for greater armament, they map the battle chart, but: where sightless eyes stare out, beyond life's vanished joys, I've noticed, somehow, all the dead and mamed are hardly more than boys(Grantland Rice per our mutual friend, Sarah Rapp)."

Thanks Jack!

I must admit that I do not check authenticity of my posts. If anyone can tell me of a non-biased arbitrator, I will attempt to do so more regularly. I know of no such arbitrator for the internet.

Two good stories- (and both true)

STORY NUMBER ONE

Many Years ago, Al Capone virtually owned Chicago.  Capone wasn't famous for anything heroic.  He was notorious for enmeshing the windy city in everything from bootlegged booze and prostitution to murder.

Capone had a lawyer nicknamed "Easy Eddie."  He was Capone's lawyer for a good reason.  Eddie was very good!  In fact, Eddie's skill at legal maneuvering kept Big Al out of jail for a long time.

To show his appreciation, Capone paid him very well.. Not only was the money big, but Eddie got special dividends, as well.  For instance, he and his family occupied a fenced-in mansion with live-in help and all of the conveniences of the day.  The estate was so large that it filled an entire Chicago City block.

Eddie lived the high life of the Chicago mob and gave little consideration to the atrocity that went on around him.

Eddie did have one soft spot, however.  He had a son that he loved dearly.  Eddie saw to it that his young son had clothes, cars, and a good education.  Nothing was withheld.  Price was no object.

And, despite his involvement with organized crime, Eddie even tried to teach him right from wrong.  Eddie wanted his son to be a better man than he was.

Yet, with all his wealth and influence, there were two things he couldn't give his son; he couldn't pass on a good name or a good example.

One day, Easy Eddie reached a difficult decision.  Easy Eddie wanted to rectify wrongs he had done.

He decided he would go to the authorities and tell the truth about Al"Scarface" Capone, clean up his tarnished name, and offer his son some resemblance of integrity.  To do this, he would have to testify against The Mob, and he knew that the cost would be great.  So, he testified.

Within the year, Easy Eddie's life ended in a blaze of gunfire on a lonely Chicago Street.  But in his eyes, he had given his son the greatest gift he had to offer, at the greatest price he could ever pay..  Police removed from his pockets a rosary, a crucifix, a religious medallion, and a poem clipped from a magazine.

The poem read:

"The clock of life is wound but once, and no man has the power to tell just when the hands will stop, at late or early hour.  Now is the only time you own.  Live, love, toil with a will.  Place no faith in time.  For the clock may soon be still."

STORY NUMBER TWO

World War II produced many heroes. One such man was Lieutenant Commander Butch O'Hare.

He was a fighter pilot assigned to the aircraft carrier Lexington in the South Pacific.

One day his entire squadron was sent on a mission.  After he was airborne, he looked at his fuel gauge and realized that someone had forgotten to top off his fuel tank.

He would not have enough fuel to complete his mission and get back to his ship.

His flight leader told him to return to the carrier.  Reluctantly, he dropped out of formation and headed back to the fleet.

As he was returning to the mother ship, he saw something that turned his blood cold; a squadron of Japanese aircraft was speeding its way toward the American-fleet.

The American fighters were gone on a sortie, and the fleet was all but defenseless.  He couldn't reach his squadron and bring them back in time to save the fleet.  Nor could he warn the fleet of the approaching danger.  There was only one thing to do.  He must somehow divert them from the fleet.

Laying aside all thoughts of personal safety, he dove into the formation of Japanese planes.  Wing-mounted 50 caliber's blazed as he charged in, attacking one surprised enemy plane and then another.  Butch wove in and out of the now broken formation and fired at as many planes as possible until all his ammunition was finally spent.

Undaunted, he continued the assault.  He dove at the planes, trying to clip a wing or tail in hopes of damaging as many enemy planes as possible, rendering them unfit to fly.

Finally, the exasperated Japanese squadron took off in another direction.

Deeply relieved, Butch O'Hare and his tattered fighter limped back to the carrier.

Upon arrival, he reported in and related the event surrounding his return..  The film from the gun-camera mounted on his plane told the tale.  It showed the extent of Butch's daring attempt to protect his fleet.  He had, in fact, destroyed five enemy aircraft.  This took place on February 20, 1942, and for that action Butch became the Navy's first Ace of W.W.II, and the first Naval Aviator to win the Medal of Honor.

A Year later Butch was killed in aerial combat at the age of 29.  His hometown would not allow the memory of this WW II hero to fade, and today, O'Hare airport in Chicago is named in tribute to the courage of this great man.

So, the next time you find yourself at O'Hare International, give some thought to visiting Butch's memorial displaying his statue and his Medal of Honor.  It's located between Terminals 1 and 2.

SO WHAT DO THESE TWO STORIES HAVE TO DO WITH EACH OTHER?

Butch O'Hare was "Easy Eddie's" son.

(Pretty cool, eh!)

Calipari on Sarr Eligibility: 'We Feel Confidant'

UK MEN’S BASKETBALL

Calipari on Sarr eligibility: ‘We feel confident’

Kentucky Coach John Calipari expressed confidence on Tuesday that the NCAA will rule transfer Olivier Sarr eligible to play this coming season. But he added that the high-profile nature of the decision is a reason the NCAA has yet to announce its decision.

“We feel confident,” Calipari said on a Zoom teleconference. “But you never know till you hear it’s good to go. He’s got a great case. But we’ll wait to hear.”

Calipari said he could not comment on the elements of UK’s appeal that Sarr not have to sit out the 2020-21 season as a transfer. Sarr transferred from Wake Forest, where last season he was named to the All-ACC Third Team and was runner-up in balloting for the ACC Most Improved Player designation.

Sarr, a 7-footer and native of France, is seen as key to giving Kentucky a big man presence. For Wake Forest last season, he scored 30 points and grabbed 17 rebounds against Notre Dame, scored 25 points in a game against Duke and posted a double-double (20 points and 13 rebounds) in an ACC Tournament game against Pittsburgh.

Experience with players transferring elsewhere (most recently Johnny Juzang this offseason) gives UK a sense of how the appeal process works, said Calipari, adding that a high-profile case can slow the process. Sarr is considered one of the best transfers this offseason. And Kentucky is Kentucky.

“They’ll want to make sure ‘Let’s really make sure we have this right,’” the UK coach said of the NCAA, “and they may take more time. . . .

“I know they don’t treat it any differently than any other case. But it is more of a high-profile case, so they’ll look at it.”

NO POSITIVE TESTS

UK players have returned to campus. Without directly saying so, Calipari seemed to say no players have tested positive for COVID-19.

“Everybody is practicing,” he said.

Calipari said the men’s basketball players are in a “tight bubble” with no outsiders allowed in Wildcat Coal Lodge and the practice facility a short walk away.

To enhance safety, weight training and conditioning drills are being done outside, he said. Players are served boxed meals.

Calipari, who suggested the SEC had imposed stringent guidelines, said he has remained off campus.

“I’m not allowed to be in my car waving to them . . . ,” the UK coach said. “They keep asking, when are we going to see you? I can’t work with them until the 20th (of July).”

UK announced Monday that three individuals with ties to the men’s basketball, women’s soccer and volleyball teams tested positive during the most recent round of COVID-19 testing for that group. The school, citing privacy concerns, did not say whether the individuals were athletes or staff members.

POSITIVE THINKING

Calipari said the hope was the players could start playing three-on-three and five-on-five within a week or so.

“I said to them, let’s use this time to separate from everybody else,” Calipari said. “Let’s use this time to get in the greatest physical condition.”

Players — one at each basket — are using a shooting machine to practice shooting.

“We should be a great shooting team because it’s all you can do right now is shoot,” Calipari said.

Kentucky’s in-state archrival, Louisville, announced last week it had temporarily suspended men’s basketball workouts after two individuals in the program tested positive.

WEAR A MASK

In saluting how the state of Kentucky has reacted to the coronavirus pandemic, Calipari offered advice on masks.

“Wear a mask,” he said. “It’s not a statement. Just wear the mask. It protects you. It protects somebody else. . . . Everybody has got to do what they can. But we also have got to follow the science. I mean, you know, you’ve got to follow the science. What it says.”

LEADERSHIP INITIATIVE

Calipari detailed how UK will implement the Minority Leadership Initiative that was announced on Monday. It is designed to create access and opportunity for minority applicants to get practical work experience in college athletic departments.

UK will have five such employees in each of the next six school years, said Calipari, who suggested he would enthusiastically support a means by which some could shadow Director of Athletics Mitch Barnhart and school president Eli Capilouto.

Calipari said his role might be to invite the employees to dinner at his home at least once a month and arrange for speakers. He said he had spoken to filmmaker Spike Lee and actor-comedian Jamie Foxx.

When asked how he could define success in the program, Calipari said athletic departments would be more diverse in 10 years and that in 20 years there would be five times as many minority athletic directors.

BIGGEST WORRY

Calipari said his biggest worry with the program was an avalanche of applicants.

“What if a thousand applications come in,” he said. “Who the hell is going to go through those? Like, I don’t have time to do that.”

ProLink Staffing, a job search company, has donated $250,000 worth of work hours to staff a crew to handle applications. The company said it would need about three weeks to handle the hypothetical 1,000 applications, Calipari said.

Applicants turned down will get guidance on how to better prepare for reapplying the following year, the UK coach said. Some not hired will go into a data base for possible recommendation for job openings elsewhere.

‘RIGHT THING TO DO’

On July 3, five-star prospect Makur Maker committed to Howard over UCLA and Kentucky. At No. 16, he became the highest-ranked prospect to commit to a Historically Black College or University since ESPN began its recruiting database in 2007.

When asked if the fear of losing prospects fueled the support coaches and schools have pledged to the Minority Leadership Initiative, Calipari said, “I just hope they do it because it’s the right thing to do. That they see we lack diversity, not on fields but in athletic departments.”

Faith, Hope, and Love, and the greatest of these is Love.

Suffer the little children to come unto me, for of such is the kingdom of Heaven.  I can literally quote the words wrongly; however, I know Jesus said those words.

My wife, Jeanie, and I watch a lot of old movies and last evening was no different.  It was the
Hopeville Elementary School Bombing film.  We enjoyed the acting and the eventual prayers by the involved kids, and the extremely concerned adults of the little Wyoming community, back in May of 1986.

Little seems to have been accomplished in recent lawless activities, which were initiated by a group of 4 officers aiding in the killing of a black citizen.  The government should not accede the accomplishments of this great nation for all citizens for over 240 years and must move to make things safer for all honest citizens.

I have enjoyed many privileges, which I took for granted a senior white citizen.  Police have kept peace in the cities in which we have lived. I am sure that VP Mike Pence and HUD Chairman Ben Carson, each great Christians and each loyal supporters of our wonderfully blessed country, have prayed and that their prayers register mightily with God.

We politically divided citizens, a Xenos presenter of bible messages, recently paused to remind the congregation that church members all over America are very divided in their political allegiance.  Christians must offer our prayers for the right moves to show control for our wonderfully blessed USA during these perilous times ...

UK Hopes for Cade Cunningham Thx KSR!

Rivals’ Corey Evans gives a full rundown of what’s next for Cade Cunningham

Since the FBI first began its investigation into college basketball in 2017, the assumption always was, that the biggest shockwaves would come from Kansas, Louisville or Arizona. As it turns out, the most seismic thing that may come out of this is what has already happened at Oklahoma State.

That’s because, as has been well-reported by now, on Friday, the NCAA hit Oklahoma State with surprising sanctions, sanctions that included a one-year ban from the NCAA Tournament. The reason that is especially important for this upcoming season is that the Cowboys have the No. 1 high school player in America, Cade Cunningham, signed and set to enroll in just a few weeks. Now, with the postseason ban on the table, it means that Cunningham could consider a few different options, ranging from staying at Oklahoma State, pursuing a pro career or potentially transferring to another school. Obviously, with Kentucky finishing in second place in his initial recruitment, it doesn’t seem far-fetched that the Wildcats could be in the mix as well.

So what went down last week and what’s the latest on Cunningham’s future? There is no one better person (besides Cunningham) to ask than Rivals.com recruiting analyst Corey Evans. Evans is close with Cunningham and spoke to him in the immediate aftermath of everything last week.

Evans joined KSR’s Aaron Torres Podcast to discuss it all. You can download here, or listen to the full episode below, but it really does start with the shock of everything that unfolded late last week.

“Shellshock,” Evans said when asked to describe everyone’s reaction around Oklahoma State last week. “I think people need to put themselves into Cade Cunningham’s shoes. For eight months now you’ve been gearing up for ‘I’m going to enroll at Oklahoma State. I’m going to be a difference-maker. I’m going to lead them back to the NCAA Tournament. I’m going to play for my brother. I’m going to play for Mike Boynton, the first high major coach to offer me. I’m going to play with my best friends. I’m going to play with a class that I helped put together.’ And literally in an instant all those future plans, partially at least, are taken away.”

Now, with the news about a week old, the question is what comes next. As Evans pointed out multiple times throughout the interview, Cunningham holds all the leverage in this particular situation and can wait as long as he wants to make a final decision. The one thing that is not up for debate however, is that any number of options are on the table. And just about everyone, from other colleges to professional leagues are pursuing him.

Wait, wait, let’s take that a step further.

Not only are they pursuing Cunningham, but his brother as well.

“Just my digging, and I’m not sure how credible it is,” Evans began. “But they [the Cunningham family] is wide open with things. Whether it is remaining at Oklahoma State. Whether it’s going elsewhere. His brother Cannen Cunningham, does he try to stay on staff at Oklahoma State? Does someone else try to hire him away, which I have been told that a few programs might be going down that route – trying to hire Cannen away and bring Cade with him.”

Still, as wide open as the family is, Evans did admit that this all will likely come down to an “Oklahoma State vs. a professional path” option for Cunningham.

Still, he also readily admitted that if Cunningham did choose to play college basketball next year somewhere other than Oklahoma State, Kentucky is probably the most realistic option.

“Assuming that he does, or banking on him re-opening things, you’d have to assume that Kentucky is going to be involved. That’s just personal opinion. With Cal being Cal, they’re going to recruit the best of the best, regardless of what his roster looks like. And as you say it, those crystal ball picks wrong. He was as close to a committed Kentucky prospect as you can get. And it took him to kind of wait things out and let things settle before he realized what he ultimately wanted, which was Oklahoma State above all else. But with that relationship already built, Kentucky will be one of the few that will be hard to beat.”

So, what will Cunningham decide? Only time will tell. But this will be a topic to monitor throughout the off-season.

Also, beyond their conversation about Cunningham, Torres and Evans also spoke about a number of other big topics in the recruiting world. They discussed the future of Jonathan Kuminga and the one “front runner” that stands out, and also why Moussa Cisse’s recruitment may be more wide open than previously expected.
