Letter: Levies must fail so our voices will be heard

To the Editor:
I've been very upset about the levy passing and my letter to the editor never got published. I don't plan to ever vote "yes" for another school levy as long as the funding for the schools comes from only property owners. I can't think of any other form of taxation that is as unfair.
I believe there should be a school tax based on income. Or people who do not pay property taxes should not be allowed to vote on a levy.
I'm a single person paying more then 10 percent of my income on property taxes, and now I have to pay another $500. The worst part is knowing every couple of years we'll be asked to give the schools this much more again.
I've only been here four years and the school taxes have gone up $1,000. I most likely will have to move. Right after the levy passed, six homes within a quarter-mile of me have gone up for sale.
Right now, 21 percent of households in Westerville, who rent, pay no school taxes. I've heard the argument that their landlord is paying the taxes, but I've looked on the auditor's Web site. I found a nice apartment complex with four units and the owner was paying around $7,500.
I'm a single person in a small older home paying $4,500 a year, most to the schools. If there are eight working adults in those apartments and they all paid that much on school taxes, maybe the schools would have enough and others like me could get a break. It would be interesting to see how many people go to the polls voting "yes" for a school levy when they don't have to pay it.
Because of our economy, 3.35 percent of Westerville homes in Franklin County have not yet paid their last property taxes. That comes up to over 1,000 homes based on 35,500 homes in Westerville schools. It will be worse next year, which means the schools will have less money and need more.
It sounds like the Westerville school board has done as much as it can to keep the cost down although, according to Westerville's financial reports, more than 80 percent of the money collected goes to salaries and benefits. The lowest paid teacher I'm helping to support still makes significantly more than me.
If I'm still here next levy, I'll be trying to organize my own parade for the people against any more school levies. Shame on anyone who didn't get out to vote but was against the levy. Our politicians know how many people are suffering, but nothing changes. I hope eventually every school levy in Ohio fails because that seems to be the only way the leaders with the means will do something.

Smart little girl... Thankls Mary and Brother Paul
THIS IS THE BEST YET!!!
A pretty little girl named Suzy was standing on the sidewalk in front of
her home. Next to her was a basket containing a number tiny creatures; in
her hand was a sign announcing FREE KITTENS.
Suddenly a line of big black cars pulled up beside her. Out of the lead
car stepped a tall, grinning man.
"Hi there, little girl, I'm President Obama. What do you have in the
basket?" he asked.
"Kittens," little Suzy said.
"How old are they?" asked Obama.
Suzy replied, "They're so young, their eyes aren't even open yet."
"And what kind of kittens are they?"
"Democrats," answered Suzy with a smile.
Obama was delighted. As soon as he returned to his car, he called his PR
chief and told him about the little girl and the kittens.
Recognizing the perfect photo op, the two men agreed that the president
should return the next day, and, in front of the assembled media, have the
girl talk about her discerning kittens.
So the next day, Suzy was again standing on the sidewalk with her basket
of "FREE KITTENS" when another motorcade pulled up, this time followed by
vans from ABC, NBC, CBS and CNN.
Cameras and audio equipment were quickly set up, then Obama got out of
his limo and walked over to little Suzy.
"Hello, again," he said, "I'd love it if you would tell all my friends out
there what kind of kittens you're giving away."
"Yes sir," Suzy said. "They're Republicans."
Taken by surprise, the president stammered, "But.... but... yesterday,
you told me they were DEMOCRATS."
Little Suzy smiled and said, "I know. But today, they have their eyes
open."

A judge at the United States District Court in Brooklyn issued a preliminary injunction that nullifies the resolution and requires the government to honor existing contracts with the group and review its applications for new grants unless the Obama administration appeals the decision.
The court ruled that the resolution amounted to a “bill of attainder,” a legislative determination of guilt without trial, because it specifically punishes one group.
That provision plays a crucial, but rarely necessary, role in maintaining the balance of powers, said Eric M. Freedman, a professor of constitutional law at Hofstra Law School. “It says that the Congress may not act as judge, jury and executioner. That is precisely what the Congress sought to do in this case, and the district court was entirely right to enjoin it.”
In the opinion, Judge Nina Gershon wrote of Acorn, “They have been singled out by Congress for punishment that directly and immediately affects their ability to continue to obtain federal funding, in the absence of any judicial, or even administrative, process adjudicating guilt.”
The Justice Department said it was still reviewing the ruling Friday night.
Judge Gershon’s opinion made a point of separating the court’s ruling from the controversy surrounding Acorn, which is short for Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now.
The House acted after the organization came under fire for a series of embarrassing scandals, most notably the disclosure by conservative activists of videotape showing Acorn counselors giving mortgage advice to people posing as a pimp and a prostitute interested in setting up a brothel. Even before that, Republicans attacked the group, accusing it of voter registration fraud in 2008.
Jules Lobel, a lawyer at the Center for Constitutional Rights, which brought the suit on behalf of Acorn, said the resolution was the first time Congress had ever singled out one group for punishment. “Whenever you challenge a statute of Congress, it’s always a significant political battle,” Mr. Lobel said.
The chief executive of Acorn, Bertha Lewis, issued a statement calling the ruling a victory for the group and “the citizens who work through Acorn to improve their communities and promote responsible lending and homeownership.”
In a lawsuit filed last month, Acorn argued that it was penalized by Congress “without an investigation” and had been forced to cut programs that counsel struggling homeowners and to lay off workers.

Very interesting. The doctor read and commented on the first five hundred pages of a 2000 plus page bill of gobbledegook. So much more than any of us, especially our elitist representatives, have read or commented upon.
How succinct and powerful are our American Constitution, Lincoln's Gettysburg address, and on and on in our USA governmental history. Dare I say concise and to the point. This HC bill makes so many points and takes away freedoms which our true leaders and service people have fought so many times to protect. We don't need the elitists nor the czars, nor the current president of the United States of America.

As a practicing physician I have major concerns with the health care bill before Congress. I actually have read the bill and am shocked by the brazenness of the government's proposed involvement in the patient-physician relationship. The very idea that the government will dictate and ration patient care is dangerous and certainly not helpful in designing a health care system that works for all. Every physician I work with agrees that we need to fix our health care system, but the proposed bills currently making their way through congress will be a disaster if passed.
I ask you respectfully and as a patriotic American to look at the following troubling lines that I have read in the bill. You cannot possibly believe that these proposals are in the best interests of the country and our fellow citizens.
Page 22 of the HC Bill: Mandates that the Govt will audit books of all employers that self-insure!!
Page 30 Sec 123 of HC bill: THERE WILL BE A GOVT COMMITTEE that decides what treatments/benefits you get.
Page 29 lines 4-16 in the HC bill: YOUR HEALTH CARE IS RATIONED!!!
Page 42 of HC Bill: The Health Choices Commissioner will choose your HC benefits for you. You have no choice!
Page 50 Section 152 in HC bill: HC will be provided to ALL non-US citizens, illegal or otherwise.
Page 58 HC Bill: Govt will have real-time access to individuals' finances & a 'National ID Health card' will be issued!
Page 59 HC Bill lines 21-24: Govt will have direct access to your bank accounts for elective funds transfer.
Page 65 Sec 164: Is a payoff subsidized plan for retirees and their families in unions & community organizations: (ACORN).
Page 84 Sec 203 HC bill: Govt mandates ALL benefit packages for private HC plans in the 'Exchange.'

Furthermore, if you vote for a bill that enforces socialized medicine on the country and destroys the doctor-patient relationship, I will do everything in my power to make sure you lose your job in the next election.

Very interesting. The doctor read and commented on the first five hundred pages of a 2000 plus page bill of gobbledegook. So much more than any of us, especially our elitist representatives, have read or commented upon.
How succinct and powerful are our American Constitution, Lincoln's Gettysburg address, and on and on in our USA governmental history. Dare I say concise and to the point. This HC bill makes so many points and takes away freedoms which our true leaders and service people have fought so many times to protect. We don't need the elitists nor the czars, nor the current president of the United States of America.

Senator Bayh,
As a practicing physician I have major concerns with the health care bill before Congress. I actually have read the bill and am shocked by the brazenness of the government's proposed involvement in the patient-physician relationship. The very idea that the government will dictate and ration patient care is dangerous and certainly not helpful in designing a health care system that works for all. Every physician I work with agrees that we need to fix our health care system, but the proposed bills currently making their way through congress will be a disaster if passed.
I ask you respectfully and as a patriotic American to look at the following troubling lines that I have read in the bill. You cannot possibly believe that these proposals are in the best interests of the country and our fellow citizens.
Page 22 of the HC Bill: Mandates that the Govt will audit books of all employers that self-insure!!
Page 30 Sec 123 of HC bill: THERE WILL BE A GOVT COMMITTEE that decides what treatments/benefits you get.
Page 29 lines 4-16 in the HC bill: YOUR HEALTH CARE IS RATIONED!!!
Page 42 of HC Bill: The Health Choices Commissioner will choose your HC benefits for you. You have no choice!
Page 50 Section 152 in HC bill: HC will be provided to ALL non-US citizens, illegal or otherwise.
Page 58 HC Bill: Govt will have real-time access to individuals' finances & a 'National ID Health card' will be issued!
Page 59 HC Bill lines 21-24: Govt will have direct access to your bank accounts for elective funds transfer.
Page 65 Sec 164: Is a payoff subsidized plan for retirees and their families in unions & community organizations: (ACORN).
Page 84 Sec 203 HC bill: Govt mandates ALL benefit packages for private HC plans in the 'Exchange.'
