Love for softball inspires Westerville man's family fiction
* Sam Kegley discovered his book not only appeals to young softball players, but to the parents and grandparents of those players.

Westerville resident Sam Kegley, 76, always has had a passion for softball. Now, he's turned that passion into a book.

Kegley's book, Grandparents and Softball, is a story about a set of grandparents, Andy and Princess, who follow their granddaughter, Audrey, throughout her softball career, starting when she is a young girl all the way to her 20s, when she competes in the Olympics as part of Team USA.

Grandparents and Softball, Kegley's first attempt at fiction, was born in large part from his own experiences after being involved in softball for much of his life.

"I've played softball, my kids played softball and now my granddaughters play softball. Girls are completely taking over the sport," Kegley said.




As the game of softball has evolved throughout the years, so have the people playing it.

"The enthusiasm of little girls when they play softball is something else. They play like boys out there," Kegley said.

When he started writing the book, Kegley originally intended for his audience to be children who are playing softball.

One of the editors of the book, an Ohio State softball alumna, showed Kegley his audience was much broader.

Since taking the advice of the collegiate player, Kegley realized his book is not only enjoyable for kids playing softball, but also for the parents and grandparents of those kids.

Kegley's exuberance for softball is rarely rivaled.

"I love softball. Most people who are associated with softball do. Everybody counts and the girls do such a good job. It's a team game and being part of a team really helps the self-esteem of these little girls." Kegley said.

Plans for another book already are in the works; however, Kegley doesn't yet know what the topic will be.

Kegley and his wife Jeanette have lived in Westerville for 48 years.

George Orwell's 1984

This book was a futuristic unthinkable when I was a junior at Portsmouth High School. Winston and Julia are caught in an anti-love crime by the thought police and questioned separately. I thought then that it could never happen in the USA, but here it is happening 60 years after the June 1949 publishing for George Orwell.

It was required reading then by our bright teachers and it should be today unless it becomes part of a burning pile soon. You can go to Google and put in Orwell 1984. I like the current Wikipedia link.

In his 1946 essay, "Why I Write", Orwell described himself as a Democratic Socialist, though said political agenda carried with it far different implications than would be expected today.[13]

Patriotic songs?

Are the Hollywood group, the media, or the liberal administration even aware of the patriotic songs of America.

Too much apologizing, cutting strength for appeasement, and blasting the good. I heard o say during his campaign that he wanted to replace our national anthem with "I'd Love to teach the world to sing". That song was beautiful, but nothing like the Star Spangled Banner for the national anthem of this great country. Too many have forgotten "America". "Oh beautiful for spacious skies..." God has blessed the world with so much good, but no country more than He has the United States of America.

I share these thoughts as a patriotic American in a most perilous political time.

Widow wants husband dressed in a blue suit

Thanks John Bob Looney! I have asked Jeanie to have me in a blue blazer.


A man who just died is delivered to the mortuary wearing an
expensive,
expertly tailored black suit. The mortician asks the deceased's wife
how
she would like the body dressed. He points out that the man does
look
good in the black suit he is already wearing.

The widow, however, says that she always thought her husband looked
his
best in blue, and that she wants him in a blue suit.

She gives the mortician a blank check and says, "I don't care what
It
costs, but please have my husband in a blue suit for the viewing."

The woman returns the next day for the wake. To her delight, she
Finds
her husband dressed in a gorgeous blue suit with a subtle chalk
stripe;
the suit fits him perfectly.

She says to the mortician, "Whatever this cost, I'm very satisfied.
You
did an excellent job and I'm very grateful. How much did you spend?"

To her astonishment, the mortician presents her with the blank
check.
"There's no charge," he says.

'No, really, I must compensate you for the cost of that exquisite
blue
suit!" she says.

"Honestly, ma'am," the mortician says, "it cost nothing."

"You see, a deceased gentleman of about your husband's size was
brought
in shortly after you left yesterday, and he was wearing an
attractive
blue suit. I asked his wife if she minded him going to his grave
wearing
a black suit instead, and she said it made no difference as long as
he
looked nice."

"So I just switched the heads."

Unaware?

The tyrant is also unaware that even the libs who voted him into office are becoming aware of his moves to destoy the freedoms our fighting men assured us. I'm not aware that he has ever apoligized to us, the American citizens. However, he has apologized for our "his declared arrogance" all over this globe.

It is too sad that the constitution does not require congressional leaders and the president and Supreme Court judges to have securtiy clearances. Tjis youg orator would never have passed muster.

Barack Obama, through his spokesman, claimed that he was unaware of the tax day tea parties. Granted, the MSM (Main Stream Media) has done a good job in suppressing any sort of coverage ahead of time (and the little coverage they did provide was derisive at best) but how out of touch is the Community Organizer in Chief, really?

This much:

- He was unaware that he was attending a church (for 20 years) with a racist pastor who hates America .

- He was unaware that he was family friends with, and started his political career in the living room of, a domestic terrorist.

- He was unaware that he had invested in two speculative companies backed by some of his top donors right after taking office in 2005.

- He was unaware that his own aunt was living in the US illegally.

- He was unaware that his own brother lives on pennies a day in a hut in Kenya .

- He was unaware of the AIG bonuses that he and his administration approved and signed into a bill.

- He was unaware that the man he nominated to be his Secretary of Commerce was under investigation in a bribery scandal.

- He was unaware that the man he nominated to be his Secretary of Health and Human Services was a tax cheat.

- He was unaware that the man he nominated to be his Secretary of the Treasury was a tax cheat.

- He was unaware that the man he nominated to be the U.S. Trade Representative was a tax cheat.

- He was unaware that the woman he nominated to be his Chief Performance Officer was a tax cheat.

- He was unaware that the man he nominated to be #2 at the Environmental Protection Agency was under investigation for mismanaging $25 million in EPA grants.


Bottom line ... there are people in comas that are more aware of world affairs than this guy!
