For Christian American readers of this blog:

I wish to incite all Christians to rise up and take back the United States of America with all of God's manifold blessings. We want the free allowance of the Bible and prayers allowed again in schools, halls of justice, and all governing bodies. We don't seek a theocracy until Jesus returns to earth because all men are weak and power corrupts the very best of them.
We want to be a kinder and gentler people without slavery or condescension to any.

The world seems to be in a time of discontent among the populace. Christians should not fear. God is Love, shown best through Jesus Christ. God is still in control. All Glory to our Creator and to our God!

A favorite quote from my good friend, Jack Plymale, which I appreciate:

"Wars are planned by old men,in council rooms apart. They plan for greater armament, they map the battle chart, but: where sightless eyes stare out, beyond life's vanished joys, I've noticed, somehow, all the dead and mamed are hardly more than boys(Grantland Rice per our mutual friend, Sarah Rapp)."

Thanks Jack!

I must admit that I do not check authenticity of my posts. If anyone can tell me of a non-biased arbitrator, I will attempt to do so more regularly. I know of no such arbitrator for the internet.

Who is this guy? Dan Baird e-mail

From The London Times:
A Well-Planned Retirement

Outside England 's Bristol Zoo there is a parking lot for 150 cars and 8 buses.
For 25 years, its parking fees were managed by a very pleasant attendant.
The fees were £1 for cars ($1.40), £5 for busses (about $7).

Then, one day, after 25 solid years of never missing a day of work, he just didn't
show up; so the Zoo Management called the City Council and asked it to send
them another parking agent.

The Council did some research and replied that the parking lot was the Zoo's
own responsibility. The Zoo advised the Council that the attendant was a City
employee. The City Council responded that the lot attendant had never been on
the City payroll.

Meanwhile, sitting in his villa somewhere on the coast of Spain (or some such
scenario), is a man who'd apparently had a ticket machine installed completely
on his own; and then had simply begun to show up every day, commencing to
collect and keep the parking fees, estimated at about $560 per day -- for 25 years.
Assuming 7 days a week, this amounts to just over $7 million dollars!
......

And no one even knows his name.

Re- Hi!

Pat,

I am the early riser for a while and then back to get more shut-eye shortly. I believe you once wrote that you sometimes stay up late.

I tutor math at Columbus State Community College today from 8 AM to 1 PM. I love it! It is the high school math we had at PHS and I followed up in engineering school with a few more years of math. The young (20 to 70) are interested in getting their grades. I have taught as an adjunct there for 26 years.

Please tell Glenna hello for me. God put a lot of nice people in P'Town, didn't He?

The operation went perfectly. I visit the surgeon for follow-up on the 27th. I see the audiologist to have the external sound processor attached (by magnet) to the internal processor. The external hearing device will be connected to the 24 channel wire into the cochlea and I will begin therapy to interpret the "electric voice box" sounds I understand will come to me. I recall conversations now with our deceased friend, Sam Ray, who spent his last years with a voice box. Sam was another outstanding Portsmouthite.

Jeanie is as fine as a life-long osteoarthritis beauty can be. She has known a lot of pain in her life.

God has blessed us all as Tiny Tim proclaimed for Him to do.

Sam

Hi Sam,

I see you are up bright and early. I know it has been a long long time since we last saw each other. I am going to attend our next class reunion if nothing happens between now and then.

How is the procedure for your hearing coming along. I do hope and pray that it is successful.

Glenna Lawson Conner called me the other day and she said to tell you HI from the girl that always sat behind you in home room. I gave her your blog address a while back but she says the computer is smarter than her so she doesnot use it much.

Take care and keep well dear friend. I do read your blog just about every day and that is one of the things I look forward to each day.

Tell Jeanie I said hello.

God Bless you both.
Pat

Subject: Zip Lock Bags !! Fly control !!!

We went with some out of town friends to Sweety Pies on Sunday for breakfast, and we sat in the enclosed patio section beside the house. We happened to notice a couple of zip lock baggies pinned to a post and a wall. The bags were half filled with water, each contained 4 pennies, and they were zipped shut. Naturally we were curious! Ms Sweety told us that these baggies kept the flies away! So naturally we were even more curious! We actually watched some flies come in the open window, stand around on the window sill, and then fly out again. And there were no flies in the eating area! This morning I checked this out on Google. Below are comments on this fly control idea. I'm now a believer! More comments not included here were about pet dogs and fly problems.

Zip-lock water bags
Sue says:
Many people swear that a zip-lock bag filled half-way with water and attached over entry-ways will repel flies. No one yet knows how or why it works, but there is speculation that it has something to do with the way the moving water refracts light. If you have tried this please use the comments form at the bottom of the page to share your results with the rest of us.
Ann Says:
October 5th, 2008 at 5:51 pm I tried the ziplock bag and pennies this weekend. I have a horse trailer with full LQ. The flys were very bad this weekend while I was camping. I put the baggie with pennies above the door of the LQ. NOT ONE FLY came in the trailer. The horse trailer part had many. Not sure why it works but it does!!!!!!!

Fill a ziplock bag with water and 5 or 6 pennies and hang it in the problem area. In my case it was a particular window in my home. It had a slight but significant passage way for insects.Every since I have done that, it has kept flies and wasps away. Some say, that wasps and flies mistake the bag for some sort of other insect nest and are threatened by this.

I swear by the plastic bag of water trick I have them on side porch ( our house entry) and all around the basement door. We saw these in Northeast Mo at an Amish grocery store & have used them since. They say it works because a fly sees a reflection & won't come around.

Regarding the science behind zip log bags of water? My research found that each of the millions of molecules of water presents its own prism effect and given that flies have a lot of eyes, to them it's like a zillion disco balls reflecting light, colors and movement in a dizzying manner. When you figure that flies are basically prey for many other bugs, animals, birds, etc., they simply won't take the risk of being around that much perceived action. I moved to a rural area ant thought these "hillbillies" were just yanking my city boy chain but I tried it, worked immediately! We went from hundreds of flies to seeing the occasional one, but he don't hang around long.

Burned Bisquits.

Patricia Richards Whitehead,

I have not seen you since high school (PHS 1950), but I know that your life has been richly blessed.

Thanks for sharing this nugget of wisdom.

BURNED BISCUITS

Life isn't about waiting for the storm to pass…
It's about learning to dance in the rain.

When I was a little child, my mom liked to make breakfast food for dinner every now and then. And I remember one night in particular when she had made breakfast after a long, hard day at work.

On that evening so long ago, my mom placed a plate of eggs, sausage and extremely burned biscuits in front of my dad. I remember waiting to see if anyone noticed! Yet all my dad did was reach for his biscuit, smile at my mom and ask me how my day was at school.

I don't remember what I told him that night, but I do remember watching him smear butter and jelly on that biscuit and eat every bite!
When I got up from the table that evening, I remember hearing my mom apologize to my dad for burning the biscuits. And I'll never forget what he said: “Baby, I love burned biscuits.”

Later that night, I went to kiss Daddy good night and I asked him if he really liked his biscuits burned. He wrapped me in his arms and said, “Your Momma put in a hard day at work today and she's real tired. And besides, a little burnt biscuit never hurt anyone!”

You know, life is full of imperfect things.....and imperfect people. I'm not the best housekeeper or cook. What I've learned over the years is that learning to accept each other's faults - and choosing to celebrate each other's differences - is one of the most important keys to creating a healthy, growing and lasting relationship.

"Don't put the key to your happiness in someone else's pocket – keep it in your own."

Cash for clunkers- Thanks Jo Hensley!

CASH FOR CLUNKERS..........I QUALIFY CASH FOR CLUNKERS..........I QUALIFY

IF MY BODY WERE A CAR...

If my body were a car, this is the time I would be thinking about trading
it in for a newer model. I've got bumps and dents and scratches in my
finish, and my paint job is getting a little dull. But that's not the
worst of it. My headlights are out of focus, and it's especially hard to
see things up close.

My traction is not as graceful as it once was. I slip and slide and skid
and bump into things even in the best of weather.

My whitewalls are stained with varicose veins. It takes me hours to reach
my maximum speed. My fuel rate burns inefficiently.

But here's the worst of it --

Almost every time I sneeze, cough or laugh, either my radiator leaks or my exhaust backfires.

CASH FOR CLUNKERS..........I QUALIFY - How about You?

Are you having a bad day...

Thanks Lyle and Martha Shover!

Things Got Ya Down?
Well Then,
Consider These . .
..

In
a hospital's Intensive Care Unit, patients always died in the same bed,
on Sunday morning, at about 11:00 am,
regardless of their medical condition. This puzzled the doctors and some
even thought it had something to do with the super natural. No one could
solve the mystery as to why the deaths occurred around
11:00 AM
Sunday, so a worldwide team of experts was assembled to investigate the
cause of the incidents. The next Sunday
morning, a few minutes before 11:00 AM all of the doctors and nurses nervously waited
outside the ward to see for themselves what the terrible phenomenon was
all about. Some were holding wooden crosses, prayer books, and other
holy objects to ward off the evil
spirits. Just when the clock struck 11:00 ,
Pookie Johnson, the part-time Sunday sweeper , entered the ward and
unplugged the life support system so he could use the vacuum
cleaner.

Still
Having a Bad Day????

The
average cost of rehabilitating a seal after the Exxon Valdez Oil spill
in Alaska was
$80,000.00. At a special ceremony, two of the most expensively saved
animals were being released back into the wild amid cheers and applause
from onlookers. A minute later, in full view, a killer whale ate them
both.

Still think
you are having a Bad Day????

A woman came home to find
her husband in the kitchen shaking frantically, almost in a dancing
frenzy, with some kind of wire running from his waist towards the
electric kettle. Intending to jolt him away from the deadly current, she
whacked him with a handy plank of wood, breaking his arm in two places.
Up to that moment, he had been happily listening to his
Walkman.

Are Ya OK
Now? - No?

Two
animal rights defenders were protesting the cruelty of sending pigs to a
slaughterhouse in Bonn , Germany .
Suddenly, all two thousand pigs broke loose and escaped through a broken
fence, stampeding madly. The two helpless protesters were trampled to
death.

What?!?
STILL having a Bad Day????

Iraqi terrorist Khay
Rahnajet didn't pay enough postage on a letter bomb. It came back
with 'Return to Sender' stamped
on it. Forgetting it was the bomb, he opened it and was blown to bits.
