Welcome

Welcome to my blog http://www.skegley.blogspot.com/ . CAVEAT LECTOR- Let the reader beware. This is a Christian Conservative blog. It is not meant to offend anyone. Please feel free to ignore this blog, but also feel free to browse and comment on my posts! You may also scroll down to respond to any post.

For Christian American readers of this blog:

I wish to incite all Christians to rise up and take back the United States of America with all of God's manifold blessings. We want the free allowance of the Bible and prayers allowed again in schools, halls of justice, and all governing bodies. We don't seek a theocracy until Jesus returns to earth because all men are weak and power corrupts the very best of them.
We want to be a kinder and gentler people without slavery or condescension to any.

The world seems to be in a time of discontent among the populace. Christians should not fear. God is Love, shown best through Jesus Christ. God is still in control. All Glory to our Creator and to our God!

A favorite quote from my good friend, Jack Plymale, which I appreciate:

"Wars are planned by old men,in council rooms apart. They plan for greater armament, they map the battle chart, but: where sightless eyes stare out, beyond life's vanished joys, I've noticed, somehow, all the dead and mamed are hardly more than boys(Grantland Rice per our mutual friend, Sarah Rapp)."

Thanks Jack!

I must admit that I do not check authenticity of my posts. If anyone can tell me of a non-biased arbitrator, I will attempt to do so more regularly. I know of no such arbitrator for the internet.

Thanks Jackie Brown! Figured him out

"We've Figured Him Out" by Ben Stein

As President Barack Obama's poll rating heads south, Ben Stein explains why in The American Spectator:

Why is President Barack Obama in such a hurry to get his socialized medicine bill passed? Because he and his cunning circle realize some basic truths: The American people in their unimaginable kindness and trust voted for a pig in a poke in 2008. They wanted so much to believe Barack Obama was somehow better and different from other ultra-leftists that they simply took him on faith. They ignored his anti-white writings in his books. They ignored his quiet acceptance of hysterical anti-American diatribes by his minister, Jeremiah Wright. They ignored his refusal to explain years at a time of his life as a student. They ignored his ultra-left record as a "community organizer," Illinois state legislator, and Senator. The American people ignored his total zero of an academic record as a student and teacher, his complete lack of scholarship when he was being touted as a scholar. Now, the American people are starting to wake up to the truth. Barack Obama is a super likeable super leftist, not a fan of this country, way, way too cozy with the terrorist leaders in the Middle East, way beyond naïveté, all the way into active destruction of our interests and our allies and our future. The American people have already awakened to the truth that the stimulus bill -- a great idea in theory -- was really an immense bribe to Democrat interest groups, and in no way an effort to help all Americans. Now, Americans are waking up to the truth that ObamaCare basically means that every time you are sick or injured, you will have a clerk from the Department of Motor Vehicles telling your doctor what he can and cannot do. The American people already know that Mr. Obama's plan to lower health costs while expanding coverage and bureaucracy is a myth, a promise of something that never was and never will be -- a bureaucracy lowering costs in a free society. Either the costs go up or the free society goes away. Mr. Obama knows Americans are getting wise and will stop him if he delays at all in taking away our freedoms.
**********

There is his urgency and our opportunity. Once freedom is lost, America is lost. Wake up, beloved America.

Portsmouth events for us this week and next-Sam

Tomorrow morning the Portsmouth Cronies of the Columbus area plan to meet at 9:30 at the Chef-O-Nette in Upper arlington. Dick Klitch, Smokey Gibson, Charlie Tubbs, Chet Corbitt, Blaine Bierley, Paul Bierley, and Nelson Barkley have indicated they plan to be there so far. Any male or female who has a bit of culture from the Cultural Center of Our Universe is welcome.

Next Friday morning at 8AM Barb Pratt is scheduled to interview Dick Klitch, Jeanie and me on WNXT in Portsmouth, regarding my new book Grandparents and Softball. We will meet with Bob looney and some Mound Park Urchins for breakfast at Bob's about 9:30. Dick Klitch will then be returning to Columbus, but Jeanie and I will meet with our New Boston friends in the PM. Jeanie and I look forward to the experience of watching Portsmouth vs. Warren at 7:30 that evening in the new and beautiful Trojan Coliseum.

Next Saturday we will have a book signing at the Portsmouth Public Library from 10 AM to noon. We hope to see many Portsmouth interviewees of my previous books as well as new friends and old at the signing.

The book is fiction, is small, and is $10 a copy; whereas the CD audio (about an hour listening) of the book is $7.50.

Portsmouth people have been best to me in buying my books and I will explain that this work of fiction has a Portsmouth flavor as all of my seven books have had.

I am especially indebted to Jenny Lavendar and Joe Newberry for setting up the radio and book signing Portsmouth events. Friend Bob Looney is gathering the few remaing Mound Park Urchins of the area for the Friday breakfast.

Thanks for reading,

Sam

Subject: Another Criminal Czar, but the worst by far

OK, this is about as disgusting as it gets. Fair warning.

Snopes did not produce anything on "Kevin Jennings.." However, "Good
Search" produced an article (published in "Americans for Truth about
Homosexuality" about "Obama Appointee" Kevin Jennings, the "Safe
Schools Czar" and identified him as "The founder of 'The Gay, Lesbian,
Straight, Education Network" and quoted him as saying his dream is to
'promote homosexuality in shcools' and requires the "positive
portrayals of homosexuality starting in kindergarten'...'Thats when
the saturation needs to begin".

The attached article reports that he has admitted, even included in
his biography, that he failed to report, in fact actively supported,
the seduction and molestation of a 15 year old boy by an "older man"
he (the boy) met in a "bus station bathroom."

This is a man, appointed by our President, to be the "Safe Schools
Czar." Research it yourself. You can't make this stuff up. This is the
worst (that I know of) among the collection of criminals appointed as
"Czars" (administrators without the supervision of congress {itself a
doubtful leash}).

How far does this have to go before this is clearly identified as a
"criminal enterprise" or "organized crime." How many lawbreakers have
to be in an organization before we so classify it? How bad do they
have to be?

I am, obviously, moved to forward this to you, and I apologize for the
disgusting nature of it, but this has reached a point where we simply
cannot tolerate it any longer.

How to take care of your wife:

In the world, one single rule applies to the men: Make the Woman
happy. Do something she likes, and you get points. Do something she
dislikes and points are subtracted. You don't get any points for
doing something she expects. Sorry, that's the way the game is
played.

Here is a guide to the point system:

SIMPLE DUTIES

-- You make the bed (+1)
-- You make the bed, but forget the decorative pillow (0)
-- You throw the bedspread over rumpled sheets (-1)
-- You go out to buy her what she wants (+5)
-- In the rain (+8)
-- But return with Beer (-5)
-- You check out a suspicious noise at night (0)
-- You check out a suspicious noise, and it is nothing (0)
-- You check out a suspicious noise and it is something (+5)
-- You pummel it with iron rod (+10)
-- It's her pet (-10)

SOCIAL ENGAGEMENTS

-- You stay by her side the entire party (0)
-- You stay by her side for a while, then leave to chat with a
college buddy (-2)
-- Named Tina (-4)
-- Tina is a dancer (-10)

HER BIRTHDAY

-- You take her out to dinner (0)
-- You take her out to dinner and it's not a sports bar (+1)
-- Okay, it's a sports bar (-2)
-- And it's all-you-can- eat night (-3)
-- It's a sports bar, it's all-you-can- eat night, and your face is
painted the colours of your favourite team (-10)

A NIGHT OUT

-- You take her to a movie (+2)
-- You take her to a movie she likes (+4)
-- You take her to a movie you hate (+6)
-- You take her to a movie you like (-2)
-- It's called 'DeathCop' (-3)

Wilson vs. Obama -- Who Spoke The Truth?
By Doug Patton
September 14, 2009

"And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free." - Jesus of
Nazareth, John 8:32, KJV

"Congress shall make no law respecting..." Do those words sound familiar?
They are, of course, familiar to any and all of us who have received even a
cursory education in the founding documents of this nation. The Constitution
of the United States of America is a document of enumerated rights and
restrictions -- rights of the people and restrictions on government. It
clearly spells out the rights of individuals, such as freedom of speech,
religion, assembly, the right to keep and bear arms, etc.

It also clearly spells out, in no uncertain terms, the restrictions on the
federal government, including the 10th Amendment, which states that any
authority not expressly granted to the federal government is reserved to the
states and to the people. Hence, the phrase "Congress shall make no law
regarding..."

Barack Obama's health care "plan" does not exist anywhere outside his
ideologically driven cranium and his vague, hopey-changey campaign rhetoric.
The only "plan" on the table at the moment is a thousand-plus page
monstrosity known as House Resolution 3200. Yet, in his latest address to a
joint session of Congress, the president lied through his pearly whites --
again -- to the American people and their elected representatives when he
said that the "plan" would not cover illegal aliens.

At which point U.S. Rep. Joe Wilson, R-SC, called him on it in very direct
language: "You lie!"

"That's not true," Obama shot back from the podium. Setting aside the
decorum of the congressman's remark for a moment, let's examine which of
them, Wilson or the president, told the truth.

The Founders understood clearly that government will always take as much
authority as it is allowed to have, which explains the restrictive language
of the Constitution. In HR3200, covering illegal aliens was not mentioned.
Neither was abortion funding. Congressional Republicans rightly feared that
if the bill's language remained neutral on those two issues, it could be
assumed that they are permitted. So they proposed specific amendments to
prohibit coverage of illegal aliens and funding for abortion. Democrats
overwhelmingly voted both amendments down, thus showing us their true colors
yet again.

After the speech, Rep. Wilson called the White House to apologize to the
president, who has wisely accepted the apology, knowing that dragging the
issue out will only serve to emphasize the veracity of Wilson's point that
Obama was, in fact, lying.

No such wisdom resides in House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, who wants to pillory
Wilson in front of his House colleagues. She is insisting that he apologize
again, this time on the floor of the House of Representatives, a humiliating
act of forced contrition with which Wilson is refusing to cooperate. Good
for him.

There are times in history when the truth trumps decorum and tradition.
Jesus of Nazareth was furious when He encountered liars and thieves cheating
people who had simply come to worship and to offer a sacrifice to their
Lord. "My Father's house is a house of prayer," he roared as he flipped over
the tables of the money changers and drove them out of the temple. "You have
turned it into a den of thieves!"

Similarly, Joe Wilson's righteous indignation rises up from the depths of
his soul as he listens to his president commit one mendacity after another.
Wilson loves the institution of the Congress, the body of the House of
Representatives and the people he serves. He has watched as his constituents
have been disrespected by their president and his supporters at town hall
meetings throughout the summer recess.

Joe Wilson sits on one of the House committees dealing with this issue, so
he knows the truth is not in Barack Obama as he speaks to the Congress that
night. As he sits and listens to lie after lie from the president, Wilson's
righteous anger rises up against the liars and thieves who are trying to
cheat the American people out of their birthright to freedom.

86-14 is an absolute romp! What has happened to US?

86% will send this on...

BET YOU'LL SEND IT!!

I PLEDGE ALLEGIANCE TO THE FLAG,

OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA ,

AND TO THE REPUBLIC FOR WHICH IT STANDS,

ONE NATION UNDER GOD,

INDIVISIBLE, WITH LIBERTY AND JUSTICE FOR ALL!

I was asked to send on if I agree, or delete if I don't.

It is said that 86% of Americans believe in God.

Therefore I have a very hard time understanding why there is such a problem
in having

'In God! We Trust' on our money and having 'God' in the Pledge of
Allegiance.

I believe it's time we stand up for what we believe!

If you agree, pass this on, if not, delete.

PLEASE KEEP THIS GOING,
EVEN IF
YOU HAVE PASSED IT ON BEFORE!!

A nice family story- Thanks Dave Miller.

This is a wonderful piece by Michael Gartner, editor of newspapers large and small and president of NBC News. In 1997, he won the Pulitzer Prize for editorial writing.

It is well worth reading and a few good chuckles are guaranteed.
----------------------
My father never drove a car. Well, that's not quite right. I should say I never saw him drive a car. He quit driving in 1927, when he was 25 years old, and the last car he drove was a 1926 Whippet. 'In those days,' he told me when he was in his 90s, 'to drive a car you had to do things with your hands, and do things with your feet, and look every which way, and I decided you could walk through life and enjoy it or drive through life and miss it.'

At which point my mother, a sometimes salty Irishwoman, chimed in: 'Oh, bull----!' she said. 'He hit a horse.'

'Well,' my father said, 'there was that, too.'

So my brother and I grew up in a household without a car. The neighbors all had cars. The Kollingses next door had a green 1941 Dodge, the VanLaninghams across the street, a gray 1936 Plymouth, the Hopsons two doors down, a black 1941 Ford -- but we had none. My father, a newspaperman in Des Moines , would take the streetcar to work and, often as not, walk the 3 miles home. If he took the streetcar home, my mother, brother and I would walk the three blocks to the streetcar stop, meet him and walk home together. My brother, David, was born in 1935, and I was born in 1938, and sometimes, at dinner, we'd ask how come all the neighbors had cars but we had none. 'No one in the family drives,' my mother would explain, and that was that.

But, sometimes, my father would say, 'But as soon as one of you boys turns 16, we'll get one.' It was as if he wasn't sure which one of us would turn 16 first.

But, sure enough, my brother turned 16 before I did, so in 1951 my parents bought a used 1950 Chevrolet from a friend who ran the parts department at a Chevy dealership downtown.

It was a four-door, white model, stick shift, fender skirts, loaded with everything, and since my parents didn't drive, it more or less became my brother's car

Having a car but not being able to drive didn't bother my father, but it didn't make sense to my mother. So in 1952, when she was 43 years old, she asked a friend to teach her to drive. She learned in a nearby cemetery, the place where I learned to drive the following year and where, a generation later, I took my two sons to practice driving. The cemetery probably was my father's idea. 'Who can your mother hurt in the cemetery?' I remember him saying more than once.

For the next 45 years or so, until she was 90, my mother was the driver in the family. Neither she nor my father had any sense of direction, but he loaded up on maps -- though they seldom left the city limits -- and appointed himself navigator. It seemed to work.

Still, they both continued to walk a lot. My mother was a devout Catholic, and my father an equally devout agnostic, an arrangement that didn't seem to bother either of them through their 75 years of marriage.
(Yes, 75 years, and they were deeply in love the entire time.)

He retired when he was 70, and nearly every morning for the next 20 years or so, he would walk with her the mile to St. Augustine 's Church. She would walk down and sit in thefront pew, and he would wait in the back until he saw which of the parish's two priests was on duty that morning. If it was the pastor, my father then would go out and take a 2-mile walk, meeting my mother at the end of the service and walking her home.

If it was the assistant pastor, he'd take just a 1-mile walk and then head back to the church. He called the priests "Father Fast" and "Father Slow."

After he retired, my father almost always accompanied my mother whenever she drove anywhere, even if he had no reason to go along. If she were going to the beauty parlor, he'd sit in the car and read, or go take a stroll or, if it was summer, have her keep the engine running so he could listen to the Cubs game on the radio. In the evening, then, when I'd stop by, he'd explain: 'The Cubs lost again. The millionaire on second base made a bad throw to the millionaire on first base, so the multimillionaire on third base scored.'

If she were going to the grocery store, he would go along to carry the bags out -- and to make sure she loaded up on ice cream. As I said, he was always the navigator, and once, when he was 95 and she was 88 and still driving, he said to me, 'Do you want to know the secret of a long life?'

'I guess so,' I said, knowing it probably would be something bizarre.

'No left turns,' he said.

'What?' I asked.

'No left turns,' he repeated. 'Several years ago, your mother and I read an article that said most accidents that old people are in happen when they turn left in front of oncoming traffic.

As you get older, your eyesight worsens, and you can lose your depth perception, it said. So your mother and I decided never again to make a left turn.'

'What?' I said again.

'No left turns,' he said. 'Think about it. Three rights are the same as a left, and that's a lot safer. So we always make three rights.'

'You're kidding!' I said, and I turned to my mother for support 'No,' she said, 'your father is right We make three rights. It works.' But then she added: 'Except when your father loses count.'

I was driving at the time, and I almost drove off the road as I started laughing.

'Loses count?' I asked.

'Yes,' my father admitted, 'that sometimes happens. But it's not a problem. You just make seven rights, and you're okay again.'

I couldn't resist. 'Do you ever go for 11?' I asked.

'No,' he said ' If we miss it at seven, we just come home and call it a bad day. Besides, nothing in life is so important it can't be put off another day or another week.'

My mother was never in an accident, but one evening she handed me her car keys and said she had decided to quit driving. That was in 1999, when she was 90. She lived four more years, until 2003. My father died the next year, at 102.

They both died in the bungalow they had moved into in 1937 and bought a few years later for $3,000. (Sixty years later, my brother and I paid $8,000 to have a shower put in the tiny bathroom -- the house had never had one. My father would have died then and there if he knew the shower cost nearly three times what he paid for the house.)

He continued to walk daily -- he had me get him a treadmill when he was 101 because he was afraid he'd fall on the icy sidewalks but wanted to keep exercising -- and he was of sound mind and sound body until the moment he died.

One September afternoon in 2004, he and my son went with me when I had to give a talk in a neighboring town, and it was clear to all three of us that he was wearing out, though we had the usual wide-ranging conversation about politics and newspapers and things in the news.

A few weeks earlier, he had told my son, 'You know, Mike, the first hundred years are a lot easier than the second hundred.' At one point in our drive that Saturday, he said, 'You know, I'm probably not going to live much longer.'

'You're probably right,' I said.

'Why would you say that?' He countered, somewhat irritated.

'Because you're 102 years old,' I said.

'Yes,' he said, 'you're right.' He stayed in bed all the next day.

That night, I suggested to my son and daughter that we sit up with him through the night.

He appreciated it, he said, though at one point, apparently seeing us look gloomy, he said:

'I would like to make an announcement. No one in this room is dead yet.'

An hour or so later, he spoke his last words:

'I want you to know,' he said, clearly and lucidly, 'that I am in no pain. I am very comfortable. And I have had as happy a life as anyone on this earth could ever have.'

A short time later, he died.

I miss him a lot, and I think about him a lot. I've wondered now and then how it was that my family and I were so lucky that he lived so long.

I can't figure out if it was because he walked through life, Or because he quit making left turns.

Life is too short to wake up with regrets. So love the people who treat you right. Forget about those who don't. Believe everything happens for a reason. If you get a chance, take it. If it changes your life, let it. Nobody said life would be easy, they just promised it would most likely be worth it.'
