KABUL, Afghanistan—At least 10 people, including six coalition force members, were killed and almost 50 wounded when a suicide car bomb targeted a U.S. military convoy outside an Afghan military-recruitment center in Kabul Tuesday morning, police officials said.
A spokesman from the North Atlantic Treaty Organization said six “international service members were killed and several wounded” in the attack, but wouldn’t reveal their nationalities.
Gen. Khalil Dastyar, the deputy police chief of Kabul, said the dead NATO members were American. The Associated Press reported that five of them were U.S. troops; the nationality of the sixth wasn’t immediately disclosed.
A Taliban spokesman, Zabihullah Mujahid, claimed responsibility for the attack, saying that a car loaded with 1,200 pounds of explosives rammed into a U.S. convoy at about 8:30 a.m. local time.
The blast destroyed at least 12 civilian vehicles, one of them a civilian bus; its charred remains were left resting near the road. NATO said five of its vehicles were damaged.
The bomber targeted a small convoy of U.S. military vehicles that were moving along the road near the recruitment center, officials said. The road also skirts a U.S. military base, Camp Julien, that hosts a counterinsurgency training academy for both Afghan and U.S. military personnel.
I stood at this spot not two months ago. This exact spot. That pillar that is knocked over is from the 19th Century from the time of the Afghan Kings. Off to the right of the pillar is the National Museum of Afghansitan. I took a photograph standing next to that pillar when I stopped at the Museum. Strange to think that this could have been me getting hit. Wrong time, wrong place. I was lucky. Right time. Right place. No bombs. Aside from the scant traffic, it was just begger kids, Afghan Police, a few other tourists and a few merchants. No talib assholes or other Wahhabist scum around.

May God Protect our Soldiers and Civilians in Afghansitan and may he protect the Afghan People as well. May he strike down the scourge of evil that is the taliban. Amen.

Dave,
You have always been fully aware of the dangers over there. Not that there aren’t impending dangers back in the states, but the terrorists are not attacking so frequently over here. We’ll probably suffer a nuclear blast here and if we do, we aren’t sure who might send it or where it comes from, but I would, if that ever happens, bomb Saudi Arabia really well where it hurts them most. It may all be over then.
Please bring that pretty young lady back here and enjoy what you can together. You should already have enough material for several books.
Our buddy Rick deserves congratulations for his court victory. He tells me he talks with you every few days.

She knows Kentucky coach John Calipari had other things he could have been doing and numerous other fans wanting his attention.
Yet Mary Hamm Bell certainly appreciated the attention the UK coach paid to her son, Miles, recently when both were throwing out ceremonial first pitches at a Kentucky baseball game.
Miles has cerebral palsy, but he’s an avid sports fan, especially when it comes to Kentucky sports. He plays baseball on the Bluegrass Miracle League in Lexington sponsored by Toyota. That participation gave him a chance to get on the UK field and run the bases with players this season as well as on the Lexington Legends field to play a game.
Miles and his parents, who live in Harrodsburg, were on there way to watch the UK baseball team play with other Bluegrass Miracle League players.
“Mark Bugg has been working on getting him to throw out the first pitch at a UK game. Since we were going to be on the field any way, they thought it was the perfect time to do it. He threw his pitch and then Cal threw his,” Mary Bell said.
Miles’ father, Scott, went on the field with him when he threw the first pitch. Calipari stood off to the side and watched intently.
'Thrilled' to have Calipari present
“He was beyond thrilled,” Mary Bell said. “It was such a big deal to him with Cal there. He loved it. Cal was good, but he was overwhelmed with so many kids around him. It was heartwarming to me the way Cal stood there and waited for Miles to throw his pitch. That made it an even bigger deal to Miles.”
Former UK player Bobby Perry befriended Miles five years ago and stays in close contact with the family.
“Bobby got him all kind of UK balls. He has Bengals, Reds and Legends balls, but UK is what he really likes,” Mary Bell said. “He got to keep the ball he threw out and he got Calipari, Joe B. Hall and Joker Phillips all to autograph it.
“In his UK room at home, he has so many different balls, but this one is still very special to him.”
Bell’s father often hunts with UK baseball player Keenan Wiley, a Madison Central graduate.
Tuned in to all the games
“Keenan is at our house a lot. He usually has tickets waiting for us at the game when we go and he’s really been great with Miles,” Mary Bell said.
Still, there’s nothing quite like UK basketball for Miles Bell. His parents let him watch all the games no matter how late they start and/or finish.
“So what if he is a little tired, he will be fine,” his mother said. “There is so much he cannot do and I don’t want anybody to feel sorry for him, but he can sit up and watch games and we are going to let him.
“Besides, if we don’t he lays in bed and worries about it and won’t go to sleep. He cries if they lose, too. We’ve had to threaten to turn off the TV because he will be so upset if they are not doing well. We’ve had Bobby talk to him about not crying. Bobby still spends a lot of time with him and has just been great for Miles, but he still doesn’t like for UK to lose.”
Fortunately for Miles — and his parents — the Cats went 35-3 last season.
“He really liked John Wall and Patrick Patterson. Those were his favorite players this year. He likes them all, but those two were the ones he talked about the most,” his mother said.
“But he also knows plenty about Calipari and that’s what made it so special to have him throwing the pitch out the same night that Calipari did.”

I'm very sorry for the loss. My prayers are with you and your family.
I'm 17 years old, and I lost my father this past December to an unexpected heart-attack, while he was home by himself. No one found him for a few hours, when my mom came home, which was far too late to get him to a hospital. He was the first significant loss that I have had in my life. I know that I am not alone when I say this, but I understand what it's like to lose someone close to you unexpectedly.
Again, my prayers are with you guys.

All my best to your wife and her family. The pain and grief they must feel to lose a child so young must be about the most difficult thing I can imagine.
I lost my own 1st cousin earlier this evening as well. He had been in ICU for the last 3 days and passed around 9:30 tonight. He and I had been close since we were very young boys and only a year different in age. Life is so sad at times.

I am sorry you lost your father so soon in your young life. I had a few more years than you since I was 23 when I lost mine, also to a heart attack. :(

A loss that is so hard to accept is death and separation. Prayers from Ohio for each of you Kentucky fans who rightfully grieve at these sad times.
For the six year old- Jesus loves the little children, but even at 77, I have felt His love throughout my life. My father passed away at 54, 51 years ago, and we missed so many good times with dad.
It is hard to imagine that life goes on,but prayers are so powerful.

I don’t want to see nukes again but we can’t be sure they are not right around the corner. From the good air we breathe to radiated earth. I never want to see that, friend. “Oceans 11″ from fiction to truth.

Where were Muslims during this country's Woman's Suffrage era? Again, not present. In fact, devout Muslims demand that women are subservient to men in the Islamic culture. So much so, that often they are beaten for not wearing the 'hajib' or for talking to a man who is not a direct family member or their husband. Yep, the Muslims are all for women's rights, aren't they?
