Hi
Sam, love the emails and this poem is wonderful. Did you write it?
All is ok here. We are still having tree trunks removed from our
complex from that mini tornado we had touch down on June 19,2013 in our
area and complex. We lost 27 oak trees, 17 cars were smashed and
totaled. I was lucky, my car was ok and I didn't have any problems with
the windows either. It was a real mess and the Belle View area and us
looked like a war zone. I have lived here now 46 years and have never
seen anything like this storm/tornado. Just never know what this
changeable weather will be bringing this Fall and Winter.
I
have been wondering how you and Jeannie are doing? Hard to believe we
are all aging gracefully. I don't hear much from Ken anymore; guess he
is pretty busy with his house, making saurkraut, doing woodwork, skiing,
and all the other sports he does. Ken will be 68 this coming Sept 19th
and I will be 73 on
sept 23rd. If I remember correctly, he
retired back in Sept 2009 and returned to Lockport, NY. Time certainly
has gone by fast and we just get on with our lives. I have thought
about relocating to Winchester,VA or back to Pittsburgh, PA, but decided
to stay put as I know this area very well and it is so convenient to
the stores, churches, etc. I am still in my exercise classes Monday and
Wednesday mornings at the senior center that is 3 miles from me
and
still volunteering at the Mount Vernon Hospital, our local hospital
about 3.7 miles from here. Can't believe I have been volunteering there
for 14 years already. I stay busy with helping people around our
complex, and taking care of myself. Thus far, I am pretty healthy and
no serious problems as yet.
But "arthur" has finally
approached in my right thumb and I got some kind of volteran gel 1% to
put on that and it does relieve the pain. Have had a lot
of
close friends pass away since March 25th and even tho many are older
than me, I still miss them a lot. I am now working on revising my Trust
and Will
and hope to get this completed before the 10th of
August. Always something. Then I am still writing resumes for some
people in my building who
are government employees looking for a promotion. So that brings in a little few bucks too. Keeps the mind in ship shape too.
Well, keep me posted on how you and Jeannie are doing. Signing off for now. Fondly, Marge

Yesterday Poem by Sam Kegley 7/24/14
Yesterday
Shall we work or shall we play
Much depends on yesterday
Should events just fade away
or keep returnming along our way
Give us back December 7, 41
Be as if we've just begun
Hitler would expand due to our isolation
What kind of fortress would then be our nation
For the early morning of 9-11
Skipping that event would keep us in Heaven
People would still read about and admire us
But admiration always slips away
Wake this sleeping giant though
Can we make the enemies regret their yesterdays
Will GI's fight and fall with wounds
Because they felt the hurts of yesterdays
Our surrogate fighters have volunteered
and served so well
How would needed draftees fare
In the face of future battles hell
We pray for God to bless us again although
We have slipped as a nation of Christians
It won't be Noah's boat to save some species
Nor David's bow to bring down creepies
But a return to prayer won't hurt one bit
Throughout this world who've seemed to quit
As we search out a better way
To keep from dreading yesterday
