Things are looking good for next year. I have high hopes with Coach Cal at the helm and the new class of players that we will do at least as well as we did last year and maybe even better.

I just heard on the sports news on Channel 57 in Hazard which is a subsidiary of WKYT Channel 27 in Lexington that Terrence Jones has changed his mind about going to Washington and has decided on becoming a Kentucky Wildcat after all. How about that?

Well when players like Jones decide they want to be a Wildcat then I think it is time to say to our recruits "Welcome to the Big Blue Bandwagon."

Lets make this clear. I think when this whole Terrence Jones situation was going on, we were all getting discouraged. Finally we have a reason to be happy! I mean we were gonna be good, but Jones makes us great. So this is just a happy moment.... yea.... I'M HAPPY!

We are gonna be EXTREMELY TOUGH next year.
I know people may think I'm crazy for saying it but this team could potentially be as good or better next year. This team is constructed much better for the DDMO than last year's team was. We had 2 unbelievable talents that kept last year's team dominant. This year we have balance, depth, and SHOOTING. You can never underestimate the importance of shooting. If we have the number of pure shooters from the outside and from the FREE THROW LINE last year that we will have this year we win the Title IMO.
Our free throw shooting will be drastically improved,
Our 3-point shooting will be much more reliable and consistent,
We have great athleticism, passing, size, skill,
We have 1 dominant big man (instead of 3 clogging the lane) which is essential to make the DDMO work,
We have quick, athletic, extremely talented, and experienced wing players,
We have 2 great guards who can create their own shot
The only thing we don't have a lot of is experience, once again, but our more consistent shooting from the free throw line and three point line may help us survive this time around...
If this team grows as a team and matures with chemistry it is just as/or possibly more dangerous than last years team, no doubt in my mind.

Not to be Debbie Downed (bc I don't think its a bad thing just some on this forum do), but this team now has 3 potential one-and-doners. Just saying, heard a lot of griping bc if UK having four freshmen leave off last year's team. Seemed they loved the 35 wins but wanted to still have something to complain about

I, too, am pumped! Good thread True'N'Blue! I had to go to KSR to affirm that Terrence Jones decided to become a UK Wildcat. Great news! I liked the lineup before and the comments to this thread.
Coach Cal works magic and I believe it will be an interesting thing to watch him form these young men into a great team.

I wish to incite all Christians to rise up and take back the United States of America with all of God's manifold blessings. We want the free allowance of the Bible and prayers allowed again in schools, halls of justice, and all governing bodies. We don't seek a theocracy until Jesus returns to earth because all men are weak and power corrupts the very best of them.
We want to be a kinder and gentler people without slavery or condescension to any.
The world seems to be in a time of discontent among the populace. Christians should not fear. God is Love, shown best through Jesus Christ. God is still in control. All Glory to our Creator and to our God!
A favorite quote from my good friend, Jack Plymale, which I appreciate:
"Wars are planned by old men,in council rooms apart. They plan for greater armament, they map the battle chart, but: where sightless eyes stare out, beyond life's vanished joys, I've noticed, somehow, all the dead and mamed are hardly more than boys(Grantland Rice per our mutual friend, Sarah Rapp)."
Thanks Jack!
I must admit that I do not check authenticity of my posts. If anyone can tell me of a non-biased arbitrator, I will attempt to do so more regularly. I know of no such arbitrator for the internet.

The ‘Unintended Consequences’ of Liberalism
By Arnold Ahlert
http://www.JewishWorldReview.com
The essence of liberal bankruptcy can be reduced to two words: unintended consequences. Quite simply, the unintended consequences of liberalism are the result of people behaving like people actually behave--instead of how liberals believe they should behave. Perhaps the most egregious example of the left's terminal disconnect from reality is health care "reform." Two news stories reveal what happens when common sense loses out to ideological idiocy.
The first story comes from the Congressional newspaper The Hill. Apparently it has dawned on some people that adding 32 million people to the health care rolls--note I said people, as opposed to American citizens--might engender some unintended consequences with regard to their impact on "emergency rooms already crammed beyond capacity, according to experts on healthcare facilities."
"Everybody expected that one of the initial impacts of reform would be less pressure on emergency departments; it's going to be exactly the opposite over the next four to eight years," said Rich Dallam, healthcare partner at NBBJ, an architectural firm which designs healthcare facilities.
Not everybody, Mr. Dallam. Only the clueless liberals in Congress and the White House who foisted this package on the substantial majority of Americans who wanted no part of it.
Yet in the spirit of charity, one could be somewhat forgiving of liberal prognostications if they had been the result of sailing in uncharted waters. But they were not. The state of Massachusetts has been a laboratory for so-called "universal coverage" for the past four years. What did a recent poll by the American College of Emergency Physicians reveal?
Two-thirds of that states' residents say that emergency room waiting times have either "increased or remained the same."
And why are more people headed to emergency rooms? Because even though they now have insurance, they can't find a primary care doctor to treat them--which segues quite nicely into the second story coming out of Texas.
According to the Houston Chronicle, doctors in that state are "opting out of Medicare at alarming rates, frustrated by reimbursement cuts they say make participation in government-funded care of seniors unaffordable." Again, only liberals believe doctors would be willing to lose money in order to make government health care workable. That they won't is another one of those "unintended consequences" that apparently mystify those who consider themselves intellectually superior to the hapless dullards known as ordinary Americans.
"This new data shows the Medicare system is beginning to implode," said Dr. Susan Bailey, president of the Texas Medical Association. "If Congress doesn't fix Medicare soon, there'll be more and more doctors dropping out and Congress' promise to provide medical care to seniors will be broken.
"
And what would it take to "fix" the problem? Give yourself an honorary membership in Club Liberal if you guessed the inevitable answer: more taxpayer funding. How much more? The Congressional Budget Office recently estimated that "eliminating scheduled Medicare payment cuts through 2020 would cost $276 billion."
How's that "the health care bill will be revenue neutral" slogan working for you now, my liberal brethren?
Unintended consequences? More from the Chronicle: "The problem dates back to 1997, when Congress passed a balanced budget law that included a Medicare payment formula aimed at reining in spending. The formula, which assumed low growth rates, (italics mine) called for payment cuts if spending exceeded goals, a scenario that occurred year after year as health care costs grew. The scheduled cuts, expected to be modest, turned out to be large."
Again, ask yourself a question. Who can look at: a) the ready-to-retire Baby Boomer generation, with its outsized population relative to all other age groups; b) medical advances which invariably increase life span; c) and increased life span itself, and come to the conclusion that "low growth rates" can be "assumed?"
Ironically, Texas is one of the better states in the nation when it comes to the availability of doctors, due to the fact that they instituted medical malpractice reform. According to the San Francisco Examiner, "(b)etween 2003 and 2007, the Texas Medical Board licensed about 2,500 more new physicians than it did during the previous four years. In total, more than 7,000 new doctors have come to the state."
That would be the very same medical malpractice reform that never made it onto a single page of the 2700 page health care monstrosity enacted by Democrats. Despite being ideologically clueless about most aspects of human nature, Democrats understand quite well that the Trial Lawyers Association donates millions of dollars to their party. As a result, something which would virtually guarantee a substantial reduction in health care costs for every American was omitted from "comprehensive" health care reform.
How can liberals be so obtuse regarding human nature? Pure arrogance, as in they believe they're smarter than everyone else--which in turn produces stunning ignorance. It is an ignorance that assumes tossing an extra 32 million people into an already-strained system will not further strain the system. It is the ignorance of those who would never dream of taking a pay cut themselves expecting doctors to suck it up out of the goodness of their hearts. It is the terminal ignorance of those for whom unintended consequences are always someone else's fault-- invariably due to the fact that people are simply too stupid to appreciate the "keen insight" of their intellectual betters.
It is the terminal ignorance of people who actually think collectivist, utopian philosophy can triumph over biologically hard-wired human nature, which revolves around one stunningly simple concept: individual self-interest.
Liberals equate self-interest with selfishness. Nothing could be further from the truth. Self-interest in the engine of humankind. Without it genuine ambition and achievement wouldn't exist. It is no accident that every society which has embraced collective interests over those of the individual has either been an economic basket-case--or a human rights-crushing, totalitarian nightmare.
Yet time after time, liberals can look at the historical wreckage produced wherever the ruling class decided government can operate completely at odds with human nature, and insist those failures occurred only because "the wrong people were in charge."
In one sense liberals are absolutely correct: the wrong people are in charge--of America. The Democratically-controlled Congress has one of the lowest approval ratings ever recorded, and the Obama administration's ratings have been in decline since the inauguration. Apparently more and more Americans are coming to the conclusion that "unintended consequences" can destroy the best health care system in the world, and put the nation on the fast track to bankruptcy in the process.
The bet here is a majority of American are going to deliver some seriously intended consequence to liberals next November

Any libs might just ignore this, as If they don't already- Sam
I am for an elective force to invite ACLU members, atheists, and illegal Immigrants out of America. They bend and break our free system wherever they see a chance. We will accept them back as legals if they agree to come back legally and live under our constitutional laws. I want the traditional mentions of God or great quotes back in our schools and government buildings. We could achieve better entertainment without the current socialist activists.
The progressives have been so dar ned accepting of this socialist administration and they have politically activated changes that aren't attractive to us. The one or two parties, republican and democrat, have each ceased to represent 'we the people'. We want true representatives. God bless the Tea Party people to do the right thing in representing the citizens of America!
National media have backed the wrong side too long. Give us more spokespeople such as are on the Fox News channels and radio stations.

This teacher is truly a genius!
As the late Adrian Rogers said, "You cannot multiply wealth by dividing it."
This man is truly a genius!
An economics professor at a local college made a statement that he had never failed a single student before, but had once failed an entire class. That class had insisted that Obama's socialism worked and that no one would be poor and no one would be rich, a great equalizer.
The professor then said, "OK, we will have an experiment in this class on Obama's plan".
All grades would be averaged and everyone would receive the same grade so no one would fail and no one would receive an A.
After the first test, the grades were averaged and everyone got a B. The students who studied hard were upset and the students who studied little were happy... As the second test rolled around, the students who studied little had studied even less and the ones who studied hard decided they wanted a free ride too so they studied little.
The second test average was a D! No one was happy.
When the 3rd test rolled around, the average was an F.
As the tests proceeded, the scores never increased as bickering, blame and name-calling all resulted in hard feelings and no one would study for the benefit of anyone else.
All failed, to their great surprise, and the professor told them that socialism would also ultimately fail because when the reward is great, the effort to succeed is great but when government takes all the reward away, no one will try or want to succeed.
Could not be any simpler than that. (Please pass this on)
Remember, there is a test coming up. The mid-term election in 2010!
Great teaching requires true courage all of the time.

Our son Jeff's Morgan is a cheerleader!
While Jay's daughters appear destined to be sportsgirls, Jeff's Morgan is a beauty who, at 14 now, has had at least seven years of dance classes and national competition. Morgan has cheered for Genoa Middle School football the last two years and is earnestly trying and hoping to continue cheering at Westerville Central High School. All of the granddaughters had early gymnastic training and Morgan is pursuing gymnastics still for the athleticism cheerleading requires. Kate Martin writes about the University of Kentucky's fabulously successful cheerleading squad in the following:
Kate’s Take: The Leaders of the Cheers
by Katie Martin @ 8:00 pm. Filed under Blue Blooded Opinions
While we await the news of the draft lottery, I thought I’d give a little shout-out to a different Big Blue Team.
Back in the day, (Side note: My husband, who is quite a bit older than me, always complains about people in their twenties using the phrase “Back in the day”, as in “Back in the day, people didn’t have MP3 players or texting, we had to deal with bulky CD players and AOL instant messaging”.) Anyway, back in the day I had one dream and that was to be a cheerleader. I’m sure girls nowadays have dreams like being policemen (people?) or firefighters or reality TV stars, but most girls I grew up with in the 80s had basically two dreams in mind: to be a princess or to be a cheerleader. And to be “head cheerleader” ala Kelly Kapowski would be, like, completely amazingly awesome!
Alas, I grew up and realized that cheerleading required a flexibility and vocal stamina that I would never reach. Still, I find myself watching the squad at lulls in the game (probably not for the same reasons you boys are watching them) and admiring their spirit, enthusiasm, and perceived ultimate popularity. Cheerleading will never go out of style.
We’re pretty spoiled as UK fans with our cheerleading squad. Take a look at these stats:
18 National Championships
Only team to win back to back championships three times (’87 and ‘88, ‘95 and ‘96, and ‘08, ‘09′10)
Only squad ever to win 3 championships in a row
Only squad ever to win 4 championships in a row
Only squad ever to win 5 championships in a row (seeing a trend?)
Only squad every to win 6, 7, and 8 in a row
Has been featured on the “CBS Morning Show”, “Southern Living”, “Seventeen” and “Gentleman’s Quarterly”
Not only that, but they have endured the wrath of Joakim Noah, watched Mr. Two Bits steal their cheer, and survived unscathed through the Gillispie experiment. I’m not sure many other squads would be able to beat those stats alone.
I joke around, but I think we all realize how valuable the team is to “The Team”. I’ve been friends with a lot of the girls on the squad over the past couple years and I can honestly say they work as hard as anyone on the court (except maybe Cal himself) promoting the brand and representing the University. And though they’re often seen as side-notes to the real action at the games, they do their job of getting the crowd pumped up and creating a home court advantage at Rupp unrivaled anywhere else.

Cal Thomas proposed commencement address
Judi, I don't know but are you Jewish? It doesn't matter; the JWR has some outstanding articles and this is another one.
Thanks!

I think his address would be wonderful!!
It's been many years since I was asked to deliver a commencement address, so I've had a lot of time to think about what I might say. This would be my abridged speech to the Class of 2010:
I've just observed the 50th anniversary of my high school graduation. When my father went to his 50th, I thought he was an old man. I don't feel old.
Where will you be in 50 years? You can plan now. Ask people older than yourself to tell you their mistakes so you can avoid making the same ones. You will make enough of your own.
We live in a "feelings" world, not an intellectual one. "It can't be wrong when it feels so right," says the song lyric. Yes it can, and often is. Make economic and relational choices based on cold hard facts, not feelings. Feelings come and go. Truth remains forever.
Live within your means. There is no shame in being middle class, even poor. What is shameful is being in debt, which enslaves you to outside forces at high interest rates. Look at debtor governments, including America. Economic freedom is a precious gift. If you can't afford something, don't buy it to satisfy your lusts.

Marry someone who will be your partner in every way and then have children. Living together first robs you both of a great mystery. Statistics show it also reduces your chances for a successful marriage.
Your value does not lie in how much money you make, who you know or what office you hold. Make your goal more than accumulating money and buying stuff that eventually winds up in an estate sale. Contribute something to a fellow human being. Improving another life is not only a gift to that person, but to you.
Don't forget G0d. There is no greater question than: "Does G0d exist and if He does, has He a plan for my life that I can know?" The answer determines your direction in this life and the next.
In the words of an anonymous Irish blessing:
"I wish you not a path devoid of clouds, nor a life on a bed of roses.
Not that you might never need regret, nor that you should never feel pain,
No, that is not my wish for you.
My wish for you is:
That you might be brave in times of trial,
When others lay crosses upon your shoulders.
When mountains must be climbed,
And chasms are to be crossed,
When hope can scarce shine through.
That every gift G0d gave you might grow along with you.
And let you give your gift of joy to all who care for you.
That you may always have a friend who is worth that name.
Whom you can trust,
And who helps you in times of sadness,
Who will defy the storms of daily life at your side.
One more wish I have for you:
That in every hour of joy and pain, you may feel G0d close to you.
This is my wish for you and for all who care for you.
This is my hope for you,
Now and forever."
Now go hit the beach!
