Welcome
Welcome to my blog http://www.skegley.blogspot.com/ . CAVEAT LECTOR- Let the reader beware. This is a Christian Conservative blog. It is not meant to offend anyone. For Christian American readers of this blog:
I wish to incite all Christians to rise up and take back the United States of America with all of God's manifold blessings. We want the free allowance of the Bible and prayers allowed again in schools, halls of justice, and all governing bodies. We don't seek a theocracy until Jesus returns to earth because all men are weak and power corrupts the very best of them.
We want to be a kinder and gentler people without slavery or condescension to any.
The world seems to be in a time of discontent among the populace. Christians should not fear. God is Love, shown best through Jesus Christ. God is still in control. All Glory to our Creator and to our God!
A favorite quote from my good friend, Jack Plymale, which I appreciate:
"Wars are planned by old men,in council rooms apart. They plan for greater armament, they map the battle chart, but: where sightless eyes stare out, beyond life's vanished joys, I've noticed, somehow, all the dead and mamed are hardly more than boys(Grantland Rice per our mutual friend, Sarah Rapp)."
Thanks Jack!
I must admit that I do not check authenticity of my posts. If anyone can tell me of a non-biased arbitrator, I will attempt to do so more regularly. I know of no such arbitrator for the internet.

An outstanding letter to the editor:
OSU football team paid respects to vets
Monday, November 17, 2008 2:52 AM
From The Columbus Dispatch, letters to the editor, 11/17/08
As a veteran, I wanted to do something on Tuesday as a sign of respect for those who served our country, so I went to the Statehouse to see the display honoring the Lima Company men killed and to say a prayer.
As I was viewing one of the full-size paintings of three who died when they hit a roadside bomb, I realized that a tall man stood next to me observing the same painting.
I recognized him as Ohio State University quarterback Terrelle Pryor.
When I looked around, I noticed a large contingent of OSU football players.
As coach Jim Tressel came to the center of the Rotunda, his men gathered behind him, and they all took a knee and said a prayer of their own. They were there for about 15 minutes and then left together.
This was such a classy thing to do, especially considering no media were there to cover it.
It was not their intention to be rewarded with some kind of publicity. It was merely a wonderful, solemn gesture on their part to pay their respects without the expectation of being recognized in some way for doing so.
We always hear about the negative aspects of a team but seldom hear about the good.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
After living what I felt was a 'decent' life, my time on earth came to the end.
The first thing I remember is sitting on a bench in the waiting
Room of what I thought to be a court house..
The doors opened and I was instructed to come in and have a seat by the defense table.
As I looked around I saw the 'prosecutor.'
He was a villainous looking gent who snarled as he stared at me.
He definitely was the most evil person I have ever seen.
I sat down and looked to my left and there sat My Attorney,
A kind and gentle looking man whose appearance seemed so familiar to
Me, I felt I knew Him.
The corner door flew open and there appeared the Judge in full
Flowing robes.
He commanded an awesome presence as He moved across the room I couldn't take my eyes off of Him.
As He took His seat behind the bench, He said, 'Let us begin.'
The prosecutor rose and said,
'My name is Satan and I am here to show you why this man
Belongs in hell.'
He proceeded to tell of lies that I told, things that I stole, and In the past when I cheated others Satan told of other horrible
Perversions that were once in my life and the more he spoke, the
Further down in my seat I sank.
I was so embarrassed that I couldn't look at anyone, even my own Attorney, as the Devil told of sins that even I had completely
Forgotten about.
As upset as I was at Satan for telling all these things about me, I was equally upset at My Attorney who sat there silently not Offering any form of defense at all.
I know I had been guilty of those things, but I had done some good in my life - couldn't that at least equal out part of the harm I'd done?
Satan finished with a fury and said, 'This man belongs in hell,
he is guilty of all that I have charged and there is not a person
Who can prove otherwise.'
When it was His turn, My Attorney first asked if He might approach the bench.
The Judge allowed this over the strong objection of Satan,
And beckoned Him to come forward.
As He got up and started walking, I was able to see Him in
His full splendor and majesty.
I realized why He seemed so familiar; this was Jesus representing me,
My Lord and my Savior.
He stopped at the bench and softly said to the Judge, 'Hi,
Dad,' and then He turned to address the court.
'Satan was correct in saying that this man had sinned, I won't deny any of these allegations.
And, yes, the wage of sin is death, and this man deserves to be
Punished.
Jesus took a deep breath and turned to His Father with
Outstretched arms and proclaimed, 'However, I died on the cross so
That this person might have eternal life and he has accepted Me as his Savior, so he is Mine.'
My Lord continued with, 'His name is written in the Book of Life, and no one can snatch h im from Me.
Satan still does not understand yet. This man is not to be given justice, but rather mercy.'
As Jesus sat down,
He quietly paused, looked at His Father and said,'There is nothing else that needs to be done.'
'I've done it all.'
The Judge lifted His mighty hand and slammed the gavel down.
The following words bellowed from His lips..
'This man is free.'
'The penalty for him has already been paid in full.'
'Case dismissed.'
As my Lord led me away, I could hear Satan ranting and raving,
'I won't give up, I will win the next one.' I asked Jesus as He gave
Me my instructions where to go next, 'Have you ever lost a case?'
Christ lovingly smiled and said,
'Everyone that has come to Me and asked Me to represent them has received the same verdict as you,
~Paid In Full~
If you do not pass this along to 15 people immediately,
Absolutely nothing will happen.
Passing this on to anyone you consider a friend,
(as I have done here), will bless you both.
'Stop telling God how big your storm is.
Instead, tell the storm how big your God is!
I have seen this before but it is so good I want to pass it on once again. It makes me very Thankful that the Lord died for my sins and He is my personal Saviour.
Waterloo Wonders Documentary Nov 26 8 PM
Sam,
This notice was in the clipping about Dick's book.
"For those who love the story of the "Waterloo Wonders",
a documentary about them is set to re-air at 8:00 P.M., November 26th PBS station, WOUB-TV.
I thought you would like to know this.
"YOU'VE NEVER HEARD AN ENGLISHMAN TELLING
A WOMAN, "YOU LOOK LIKE A MILLION POUNDS". ha ha

Thanks again, Phyllis! Dick Burdette originally wrote about the fabulous Waterloo Wonders high school basketball team out of southeastern Ohio when he was still a very young man. Per your info to me, he has re-released the book that I and so many of my friends have talked about throughout the years.
Dick, The Portsmouth Trojan basketballer played freshman basketball at Portsmouth with our good friend, Clay Vice, who later starred at Clay High School. They graduated in 1953. Dick from PHS and Clay from Clay HS. Clay played for Portsmouth's- and Cincinnati's great athlete, Don Monk, who, sadly, died at a very young age a little later.

The Barnyard- Phyllis Orth Sparks & BH Whitehouse

THE OBAMA NATION PRIMER
The little red hen called all of her Democrat neighbors together and said, 'If we plant this wheat, we shall have bread to eat. Who will help me plant it?'
'Not I,' said the cow.
'Not I,' said the duck.
'Not I,' said the pig.
'Not I,' said the goose.
'Then I will do it by myself,' said the little red hen, and so she did. The wheat grew very tall and ripened into golden grain.
'Who will help me reap my wheat?' asked the little red hen.
'Not I,' said the duck...
'Out of my classification,' said the pig.
'I'd lose my seniority,' said the cow.
'I'd lose my unemployment compensation,' said the goose.
'Then I will do it by myself,' said the little red hen, and so she did.
At last it came time to bake the bread.
'Who will help me bake the bread?' asked the little red hen.
'That would be overtime for me,' said the cow.
'I'd lose my welfare benefits,' said the duck.
'I'm a dropout and never learned how,' said the pig.
'If I'm to be the only helper, that's discrimination,' said the goose.
'Then I will do it by myself,' said the little red hen.
She baked five loaves and held them up for all of her neighbors to see. They wanted some and, in fact, demanded a share. But the little red hen said, 'No, I shall eat all five loaves.'
'Excess profits!' cried the cow. (Nancy Pelosi)
'Capitalist leech!' screamed the duck. (Barbara Boxer)
'I demand equal rights!' yelled the goose. (Jesse Jackson)
The pig just grunted in disdain. (Ted Kennedy)
And they all painted 'Unfair!' picket signs and marched around and around the little red hen, shouting obscenities.
Then the farmer (Obama) came. He said to the little red hen, 'You must not be so greedy.'
'But I earned the bread,' said the little red hen.
'Exactly,' said Barack the farmer. 'That is what makes our free enterprise system so wonderful. Anyone in the barnyard can earn as much as he wants. But under our modern government regulations, the productive workers must divide the fruits of their labor with those who are lazy and idle.'
And they all lived happily ever after, including the little red hen, who smiled and clucked, 'I am grateful, for now I truly understand.'
But her neighbors became quite disappointed in her. She never again baked bread because she joined the 'party' and got her bread free. And all the Democrats smiled. 'Fairness' had been established.
(Bread became scarce and the price tripled)
Individual initiative had died, but nobody noticed; perhaps no one cared...so long as there was free bread that 'the rich' were paying for.
EPILOGUE
Bill Clinton is getting $12 million for his memoirs.
Hillary got $8 million for hers.
That's $20 million for the memories from two people, who for eight years, repeatedly testified, under oath, that they couldn't remember anything.
IS THIS A GREAT BARNYARD OR WHAT?

Judas Asparagus- From Clay Vice

Judas Asparagus
A child was asked to write a book report on the entire Bible. This is amazing and brought tears of laughter to my eyes. I wonder how often we take for granted that children understand what we are teaching???
Through the eyes of a child:
The Children's Bible in a Nutshell
In the beginning, which occurred near the start, there was nothing but God, darkness, and some gas. The Bible says, 'The Lord thy God is one,' but I think He must be a lot older than that.
Anyway, God said, 'Give me a light!' and someone did. Then God made the world.
He split the Adam and made Eve. Adam and Eve were naked, but they weren't embarrassed because mirrors hadn't been invented yet.
Adam and Eve disobeyed God by eating one bad apple, so they were driven from the Garden of Eden . Not sure what they were driven in though, because they didn't have cars.
Adam and Eve had a son, Cain, who hated his brother as long as he was Abel.
Pretty soon all of the early people died off, except for Methuselah , who lived to be like a million or something.
One of the next important people was Noah, who was a good guy, but one of his kids was kind of a Ham. Noah built a large boat and put his family and some animals on it. He asked some other people to join him, but they said they would have to take a rain check.
After Noah came Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. Jacob was more famous than his brother, Esau, because Esau sold Jacob his birthmark in exchange for some pot roast. Jacob had a son named Joseph who wore a really loud sports coat.
Another important Bible guy is Moses, whose real name was Charlton Heston . Moses led the Israel Lights out of Egypt and away from the evil Pharaoh after God sent ten plagues on Pharaoh's people. These plagues included frogs, mice, lice, bowels, and no cable.
God fed the Israel Lights every day with manicotti. Then he gave them His Top Ten Commandments. These include: don't lie, cheat, smoke, dance, or covet your neighbor's stuff.
Oh, yeah, I just thought of one more: Humor thy father and thy mother.
One of Moses' best helpers was Joshua who was the first Bible guy to use spies. Joshua fought the battle of Geritol and the fence fell over on the town.
After Joshua came David. He got to be king by killing a giant with a slingshot. He had a son named Solomon who had about 300 wives and 500 porcupines. My teacher says he was wise, but that doesn't sound very wise to me.
After Solomon there were a bunch of major league prophets. One of these was Jonah, who was swallowed by a big whale and then barfed up on the shore. There were also some minor league prophets, but I guess we don't have to worry about them.
After the Old Testament came the New Testament . Jesus is the star of The New. He was born in Bethlehem in a barn.
(I wish I had been born in a barn too, because my mom is always saying to me, 'Close the door! Were you born in a barn?' It would be nice to say, 'As a matter of fact, I was.')
During His life, Jesus had many arguments with sinners like the Pharisees and the Republicans.
Jesus also had twelve opossums. The worst one was Judas Asparagus. Judas was so evil that they named a terrible vegetable after him.
Jesus was a great man. He healed many leopards and even preached to some Germans on the Mount.
But the Republicans and all those guys put Jesus on trial before Pontius the Pilot. Pilot didn't stick up for Jesus. He just washed his hands instead.
Anyways, Jesus died for our sins, then came back to life again. He went up to Heaven but will be back at the end of the Aluminum. His return is foretold in the book of Revolution.
The Lord's loving kindness never ceases, For His compassion never fails.

Why I want to keep fighting in Iraq
A US soldier gives his perspective on the war.
By Chris Brady
Kirkuk, Iraq - Despite strong public appeals by Gen. David Petraeus and President Bush this month, American views on the Iraq war remain dim. The latest Pew survey shows that 54 percent say US troops should come home as soon as possible, while 47 percent believe the US will probably or definitely fail to achieve its goals in Iraq. Many experts and politicians, meanwhile, have suggested the war can't be won.
I am a US soldier in Iraq. And I disagree. It's not too late to succeed. The stakes in Iraq are too high not to keep fighting for progress.
As a National Guardsman serving on a Provincial Reconstruction Team, I've seen what is working on the ground in Kirkuk, a city in northern Iraq.
In Kirkuk, just as in any American city, people go about their daily business attempting to provide for their families. The only difference is that in Kirkuk (and throughout much of Iraq), there is a small but extremely violent segment determined to deny citizens any semblance of a normal life.
Life in Kirkuk, of course, does not fairly represent conditions across Iraq. Having served more than four months in Baghdad, I know firsthand that violence has been much more severe in other parts of the country. But I'm convinced that the progress I've seen here can happen elsewhere.
Kirkuk is a city of many tensions. Ethnic strains have been compounded by a planned referendum about the city's political status. But the good people of this city have largely resisted these factors that would tend toward sectarian strife and violence. And they, like many other Iraqis, still need America's help.
I've been asked by more than one Iraqi, "How long are you staying?" When I reply "At least a year," I'm told "A year is nothing in Iraq. It is a blink of the eye."
Local tradesmen are justifiably proud of their history and are fond of printing "Welcome to Iraq – More than 7,000 years of civilization" on hand-tooled leather goods. Time here is measured not in weeks and months, but in years and decades. How can we measure progress any differently?
For 35 years this country was under the thumb of a brutal regime that told the populace what to do, when to do it, and where. It is unrealistic to expect a battered national psyche to emerge unscathed and create a functioning government virtually overnight – especially when the concept of "democracy" is as foreign to Iraqis as tribal relations are to Americans.
What Iraqis have accomplished to date is remarkable. In just over three years they have elected provincial councils nationwide, elected and seated a National Assembly, appointed a cabinet, and implemented a Constitution from scratch. Sometimes we forget that the birth of America was equally, if not more, chaotic. The US Bill of Rights alone took more than four years of intense debate before it became the law of the land.
The Provincial Reconstruc-tion Team I serve on has equal numbers of civilian specialists and military members, led by the Department of State, who work together to help Iraqis rebuild basic infrastructure, economics, rule of law, and governance.
We work throughout the province, "outside the wire," which means off the Forward Operating Base, on a daily basis. We see firsthand the human face of longing for a better life. That is all the Iraqis I interact with want: peace, security, and a future for their children. It is exhilarating to sit and listen while the Provincial Reconstruction Development Committee, consisting of Kurds, Arabs, Turkomans, and Chaldo-Assyrians, hashes out project proposals and votes its approval to rebuild a school or construct a playground at a local orphanage. It makes me proud to play a role in this process.
Iraqis here are nervous that the US military will leave. By most assessments, the Iraqi police and Army are just not ready to operate solo. They work hard and improve daily.
I can see it in the pride they take in morning drill at the Kirkuk Government Building, as the commander puts the security force through its paces. The Police Academy in Kirkuk runs four training classes a day, six days a week. The academy has dug its own well for water – without waiting for help from Baghdad. But these security forces simply need more time and mentoring before they can take on Al Qaeda or potentially other violent factions by themselves.
Politicians and thoughtful citizens alike decry US losses, and no one denies the fact that even a single American life is a high price to pay for the security of a foreign country half a world away. I've attended my fair share of "ramp ceremonies" where a thousand soldiers stand for hours at the position of attention well past midnight and salute a fallen comrade's casket being carried aboard a plane for the final journey home. With the possible exception of family, no one feels the loss any keener than a fellow squad or platoon mate.
The reasons America got involved in Iraq may be suspect. But US forces are here, parts of the country are still broken, and regional security may hang in the balance if we don't stay and help the Iraqis fix it. The effort is succeeding in the north, and it can in the rest of Iraq as well. America's forefathers had help from other nations when the United States was born. Allow us to continue to help Iraq be reborn.

Leftocrats- Judi Cole
An editorial comment on a political blog.................
[image: Anonymous] The Elector of Saxony said...
The world will indeed miss this President, especially if we trade him in fora beginner who lacks vision, leadership skills, and courage of even the mostbasic sort.
History, unless the Leftocrats burn it, will remember George Bush as adreamer, an optimist, one who dared everything for the sake of liberty. Theidea of raising up a Democracy from the ashes of a sadistic, tyrannicalregime is truly a bold dream.
You want to talk about the audacity of Hope? There it is, but not in Obama'sshadowy, sing-song nursery rhyme form, but in the inexorable glory ofaction. Even a child can hope. It takes a real man to turn hope into action, hold fast to Faith in that action, and realize the dream which inspired thehope in the first place. George Bush imagined a free and democratic societypopulated by Muslims, slap up against its tyrant neighbors, poking a fingerin the eye of the mullocracies. Just as blue jeans and smuggled Beatlestapes helped crack the seams of the Iron Curtain, so shall the free, capitalist society of Iraq start to tear at the Islamic Curtain. George Bushis an idealist in the cause of Liberty. Once the world sees a self-serving coward in the Oval Office, tyrants willcheer and the cause of Liberty will suffer greatly both abroad and here athome.

To Kill an American You probably missed this in the rush of news, but there was actually a report that someone in Pakistan had published in a newspaper, an offer of a reward to anyone who killed an American, any American. So an Australian dentist wrote an editorial the following day to let everyone know what an American is . So they would know when they found one. (Good one, mate!!!!) An American is English, or French, or Italian, Irish, German, Spanish, Polish, Russian or Greek. An American may also be Canadian, Mexican, African, Indian, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Australian, Iranian, Asian, or Arab, or Pakistani or Afghan. An American may also be a Comanche, Cherokee, Osage, Blackfoot, Navaho, Apache, Seminole or one of the many other tribes known as native Americans. An American is Christian, or he could be Jewish, or Buddhist, or Muslim. In fact, there are more Muslims in America than in Afghanistan . The only difference is that in America they are free to worship as each of them chooses. An American is also free to believe in no religion. For that he will answer only to God, not to the government, or to armed thugs claiming to speak for the government and for God. An American lives in the most prosperous land in the history of the world. The root of that prosperity can be found in the Declaration of Independence , which recognizes the God given right of each person to the pursuit of happiness. An American is generous. Americans have helped out just about every other nation in the world in their time of need, never asking a thing in return. When Afghanistan was over-run by the Soviet Army 20 years ago, Americans came with arms and supplies to enable the people to win back their country! As of the morning of September 11, Americans had given more than any other nation to the poor in Afghanistan . Americans welcome the best of everything...the best products, the best books, the best music, the best food, the best services. But they also welcome the least. The national symbol of America , The Statue of Liberty , welcomes your tired and your poor, the wretched refuse of your teeming shores, the homeless, tempest tossed. These in fact are the people who built America . Some of them were working in the Twin Towers the morning of September 11, 2001 earning a better life for their families. It's been told that the World Trade Center victims were from at least 30 different countries, cultures, and first languages, including those that aided and abet ted the terrorists. So you can try to kill an American if you must. Hitler did. So did General Tojo, and Stalin, and Mao Tse-Tung, and other blood-thirsty tyrants in the world. But, in doing so you would just be killing yourself . Because Americans are not a particular people from a particular place. They are the embodiment of the human spirit of freedom. No matter what your political convictions are this is an eye opener....What a thankless people we are!!!
David Letterman, on President Bush. (Surprising)
David Letterman wrote this; it's the David we don't often see....
'As most of you know I am not a President Bush fan, nor have I ever been, but this is not about Bush, it is about us, as Americans, and it seems to hit the mark.'
'The other day I was reading Newsweek magazine and came across some Poll data I found rather hard to believe. It must be true given the source, right?
The Newsweek poll alleges that 67 percent of Americans are unhappy with the direction the country is headed and 69 percent of the country is unhappy with the performance of the President. In essence 2/3 of the citizenry just ain't happy and want a change. So being the knuckle dragger I am, I started thinking, 'What are we so unhappy about?'
A. Is it that we have electricity and running water 24 hours a day, 7 Days a week?
B. Is our unhappiness the result of having air conditioning in the summer and heating in the winter?
C. Could it be that 95.4 percent of these unhappy folks have a job?
D. Maybe it is the ability to walk into a grocery store at any time and see more food in moments than Darfur has seen in the last year?
E. Maybe it is the ability to drive our cars and trucks from the Pacific Ocean to the Atlantic Ocean without having to present identification papers as we move through each state.
F. Or possibly the hundreds of clean and safe motels we would find along the way that can provide temporary shelter?
G. I guess having thousands of restaurants with varying cuisine from around the world is just not good enough either.
H. Or could it be that when we wreck our car, emergency workers show up and provide services to help all and even send a helicopter to take you to the hospital.
I. Perhaps you are one of the 70 percent of Americans who own a home.
J. You may be upset with knowing that in the unfortunate case of a fire, a group of trained firefighters will appear in moments and use top notch equipment to extinguish the flames thus saving you, your family, and your belongings.
K. Or if, while at home watching one of your many flat screen TVs, a burglar or prowler intrudes, an officer equipped with a gun and a bullet-proof vest will come to defend you and your family against attack or loss.
L. This all in the backdrop of a neighborhood free of bombs or militias raping and pillaging the residents. Neighborhoods where 90% of teenagers own cell phones and computers.
M. How about the complete religious, social and political freedoms we enjoy that are the envy of everyone in the world?
Maybe that is what has 67% of you folks unhappy.
Fact is we are the largest group of ungrateful, spoiled brats the world has ever seen. No wonder the world loves the U.S. , yet has a great disdain for its citizens. They see us for what we are. The most blessed people in the world who do nothing but complain about what we don't have, and what we
Hate about the country instead of thanking the good Lord we live here.
I know, I know. What about the president who took us into war and has no plan to get us out? The president who has a measly 31 percent approval rating? Is this the same president who guided the nation in the dark days after 9/11? The president that cut taxes to bring an economy out of recession? Could this be the same guy who has been called every name in the book for succeeding in keeping all the spoiled ungrateful brats safe from terrorist attacks? The commander in chief of an all-volunteer army that is out there defending you and me?
Did you hear how bad the President is on the news or talk show? Did this news affect you so much, make you so unhappy you couldn't take a look around for yourself and see all the good things and be glad? Think about it......are you upset at the President because he actually caused you personal pain OR is it because the 'Media' told you he was failing to kiss your sorry ungrateful behind every day.
Make no mistake about it. The troops in Iraq and Afghanistan have volunteered to serve, and in many cases may have died for your freedom. There is currently no draft in this country. They didn't have to go. They are able to refuse to go and end up with either a ''general'' discharge, an 'other than honorable'' discharge or, worst case scenario, a ''dishonorable' discharge after a few days in the brig.
So why the flat-out discontentment in the minds of 69 percent of Americans?
Say what you want, but I blame it on the media. If it bleeds it leads and they specialize in bad news. Everybody will watch a car crash with blood and guts. How many will watch kids selling lemonade at the corner? The media knows this and media outlets are for-profit corporations. They offer what sells, and when criticized, try to defend their actions by 'justifying' them in one way or another. Just ask why they tried to allow a murderer like O.J. Simpson to write a book about how he didn't kill his wife, but if he did
He would have done it this way......Insane!
Turn off the TV, burn Newsweek, and use the New York Times for the bottom of your bird cage. Then start being grateful for all we have as a country. There is exponentially more good than bad. We are
among the most blessed people on Earth and should thank God several times a day, or at least be thankful and appreciative.' 'With hurricanes, tornados, fires out of control, mud slides, flooding, severe thunderstorms tearing up the country from one end to another, and with the threat of bird flu and terrorist attacks, 'Are we sure this is a good time to take God out of the Pledge of Allegiance?'

Jack & Sam regarding Portsmouth Area Beautiful Women
Don't I, and Jeanie, know of my eye for beautiful women, Jack. I read her your comment just now and - guess what- she blushed and appreciated it very much. She said "You Portsmouth guys (she is a New Bostoner) are all ornery."
You and Jeanie make me go deep in philosophy on this one. Sexuality, as we humans know and sometimes do not articulate, makes the world go around. The male is the hunter and the female is the quest. Strange that the very beautifully effeminate creatures do not want unsolicited advances from the hunters.
Yet they wear more than subtly beguiling outfits which we sometimes take a sideways glance at. Uh... well... Then we are the sadists, the slobbering idiot molesters. The philosophers tell us that rapists, which I could never be, have a hatred for females and are expressing that in their untoward actions upon the girls. Most of us have had great mothers whom we may even rarely have disagreed with, but whom also we have loved and respected deeply. My mother, Mary Eleanor Kegley, was just such a beautiful woman.
God knew all of this in the beginning; however that beginning started, even of our God! I like to believe and I do believe that He loved us so much even in our iniquities, that He sent his son as our great Teacher of how to live with each other- even male and female.
I thank God for my Jeanie's beauty which is far more than this Mound Park Urchin ever deserved in life.

The Spriggs guys also had an older sister who might well have been the prettiest woman in Portsmouth. I'm almost sure she was older than John and ,I think, her name was Sarah. She rode the Mabert Rd, bus also and I used to make myself all kinds of promises when she would get on the bus. That Spriggs family was a classy bunch of people till they got down to the last one.( You can tell ol' Flip I said that)

Sam a guy that I have never mentioned who spent a lot of time in the park, was a good athlete but very light. Majored in foriegn commerce at OSU and spent practically the rest of his life in So. America and Guatemala making lots of money is Gene Heath. He was a red hot pool player. Although he had the GI bill he still payed a lot of his way through school shooting pool. When you can win up there, you are good. I've forgotten what they called his brother. He was a good guy too but a little slow. We called Gene ,Heater all the time. You might remember him by that name.-- Jack P.-- Jack P.
Phyllis Orth Sparks reply to "Reminisences"
Sam, I enjoyed reading this e-mail and reminiscing about the good old days. We probably didn't think they were so good at the time but as we get older they really were. I remember quite a few of the ones mentioned in this e-mail.My husband and I went to a book signing at the Portsmouth Library today. (Sat.).Dick Burdette had written a revised book on "The Waterloo Wonders". I have his first book on it, I forget the year it was published. They were a tough team. I thought you and Dick Klitch would be there and I had a picture of Dreamland Pool for each of you. It is the same size of the PHS placemat I gave you. Two places that should have never been torn down. They tore down the Greyhound Bus Station last month. Portsmouth has very few landmarks still standing so sad. Take care.Phyllis Orth SparksSam, I am a year older than the last time I saw you, I am "plenty nine" now.. ha ha .
We are getting older, Phyllis, but, not to worry, Jack Plymale still considers that we are youngsters. Everything is relative!
Dick nor I knew of Dick Burdette's latest book signing. Like many, I used to have the Waterloo Wonders book, but can't find my copy. I probably loaned it to a friend. I had suggested to Dick and Jenny Lavender that Dick should have WW reprinted. I am sure a lot of people want copies of the new book.

An old Portsmouth Trojan's Reminiscences and mine
Please. dear reader, if you are out there, indulge my good friends, Jack Plymale's and Frank Hunter's e-mail messages posted below:
I remember Lawrence, Jack. I remember that he was a kicker; however he didn't kick for his beloved Torjans. Somebody missed the boat on him. Another Eastern Kentuckian! I wonder if Ray Pelfrey remembers him.
Gib Lakeman's story of young Ockie Prater coming to the stadium with his kid-designed "Torjans" sweat shirt was a good one. Nobody loved the Trojans more than Ockie who had a partially paralyzed arm similar to Lawrence's.
Do you remember Darrell Coe? I remember that he kicked a very late game winning field goal at Springfield around 1949. He was from the Mabert Road area. I don't know who had more notable Portsmouth people between Mabert Road and McConnell Ave. It has to be close. Jim Smith, Joyce Meeks, Helen and Mary Ellen Scott, hundreds of us Kegleys, Dick and Eileen Brush, Jack Duschinski, Ronnie Walters, Pidge and Jim Zeisler, Charles Kirsch, Salsworthy- a former mayor- the Nichols sisters, Don Ginn, Walter Roe, "Balogna" Thomas, his thin and beautiful wife, and Bill and Nancy Thomas, Helen Lester, the Gemperlines- all are McConnell Ave. Alumni.
Your great friend, Doc Yeagle, was a legendary figure among my "older" friends at Mound Park, i.e. Bill (just recently deceased) and Bob Gilmer, Eddie Hill, Howard Rase, Clark Rapalee, and Gib. Jim Fout and all of you Portsmouth Trojans were legendary among us. My young son, Jeff, and a friend, visited one of Gib's classes at Northland High School while they were student teaching and loved it. Perhaps my favorite Lakeman story was one I have told many people:
Gib, like Bill Rohr did for our social problems class, liked to get the students involved with their discussion comments. He asked at the beginning of a class; "Who do you think are the three greatest people in history (subject of his teaching)? After many names and the session nearly passed, the students asked: "OK, Mr. Lakeman, who do you think are the three greatest people in history?" Gib harrumphed and said: "Well I put Jesus Christ first. Then Abraham Lincoln." Then, after a pregnant pause, he harrumphed again and said, with a little chuckle and his pursed mocked-modesty lips, and a twisting body, Mr. Lakeman announced:
"Of course, you all know me."
I will always remember your story of Gib's pre-practice cadence: "Pig poop and apple sauce!"
Jack, I love your reminiscences and our friend, Clay Vice does, maybe even more than me.
Keep'em coming from way down their in Costa Rica.
Your friend forever,
Sam

Sam, I still have no idea what happened with the stadium, but it is a rare visit to Portsmouth when we don't at least walk out on the field. Any old Trojan footballer is a blood brother to that place. Just about every foot of it is espacially reverential. At one time the chairman of the school board lived on Mabert Rd. Mr. Lawrence Daniels. His son Lawrencie, was a manager on our team and in his spare time practiced kicking extra points and field goals. He never kcked for us but he went to Eastern when Walt Green did and I'm relatively sure he kicked for them. Lawrencie and Johnny Rapp( Sarahs husband) were big buddies.Lawrencie, by the way, had broken his elbow once in a Bicycle accident and was crippled in that arm.

The School board action on the stadia won't be in the Portsmouth Daily Times. It is fiction by your Mabert Road buddy, Frank Hunter. I hope you can open it. Frank is playing with his Photoshop by dubbing in phony shots.
Ray had a naturally well built physique and each of the girls did as well.

Sam. Pelfrey had several sisters . I think they are (two at least) dead now., All of them were good looking but they really hadn't started to blossom when I pretty much left Portsmouth. One of them, I think, married a fellow Mabert Roader named Donny Richter. His older brother Ray(dead now also) retired from the A plant.

I believe the younger, Phyllis still lives in Wilmington. Ray visited with her on a most recent trip home a couple of years ago in so far as I know. Clay Vice dated her when they were younger.

They were extrenmey attractive young ladies. Rosella (Podey) is dead, as is her husband.

An expensive popularity contest- The enemy wins- America loses
What will happen to America?
I see no Christian principles in this new President, but our God knows much better than this mere mortal.
Poor loser? I am! But I believe our country is losing more and will be much poorer.
What will happen to the gains in Iraq?
Will we negotiate all the good of America over to our enemies?
Will Jimmy Carter be made Secretary of State or will Nancy Pelosi or Dirty Harry be? Perhaps Jeremiah Wright or Louis Farakhan?
Will our voluntary military people continue to fight for this great country?
Will we continue to be a great country without God in our schools and on our currency?
Will he strive for his "new bill of rights"?
Will he become in awe of the inscriptions on our national monuments which tout the great Biblical quotations? I don't think so.
I want to be more positive and see only positive changes and not the negativity he has haughtingly espoused during this far too expensive election campaign (both sides).
There will be a tide of changes and the most liberal and inexperienced Senator is soon to be inaugurated as our POTUS (President of the United States).
Somewhere in the caves of Afghanistan or in a palace in Saudi Arabia, Osama bin Laden and his ilk are celebrating euphorically as they did after 9-11-2001. Osama's Trojan horse is in place in the United States.
Dear God, I want to be wrong about this empty suit of clothes. However, You are still in control as you were throughout the reigns of Stalin, Hitler, and so many other murderous leaders of this world.
It just cannot be right, but There is still God in Heaven.
We shall see soon, too soon I fear.

Thanks Ramey Sonny Hoskins! I also say "Wow!"
This is really fantastic. It has every book of the Bible. You can either read it or listen to it (when you call up a particular chapter, there is a voice icon at the top that you can click on and hear the verse read). Someone has spent a lot of time making this site.

The Making of a Fuehrer
Thanks Les!
Halloween is over but it appears that we are entering a scary age for America.

Subject: worth reading and thinking about
Understanding Obama: The Making of a Fuehrer
By Ali Sina I must confess I was not impressed by Sen. Barack Obama from the
first time I saw him. At first I was excited to see a black candidate. He
looked youthful, spoke well, appeared to be confident – a wholesome
presidential package. I was put off soon, not just because of his shallowness but also
because there was an air of haughtiness in his demeanor that was unsettling.
His posture and his body language were louder than his empty words. Obama's
speeches are unlike any political speech we have heard in American history.
Never a politician in this land had such a quasi "religious" impact on so many
people. The fact that Obama is a total incognito with zero accomplishment
makes this inexplicable infatuation alarming. Obama is not an ordinary man. He is
not a genius. In fact he is quite ignorant on most important subjects.
Barack Obama is a narcissist. Dr. Sam Vaknin, the author of the Malignant Self
Love, also believes, "Barack Obama appears to be a narcissist."
Vaknin is a world authority on narcissism. He understands narcissism and
describes the inner mind of a narcissist like no other person. When he talks
about narcissism everyone listens. Vaknin says that Obama's language, posture
and demeanor, and the testimonies of his closest, dearest and nearest suggest
that the Senator is either a narcissist or he may have narcissistic
personality disorder (NPD).
Narcissists project a grandiose but false image of themselves. Jim Jones,
the charismatic leader of People's Temple, the man who led over 900 of his
followers to cheerfully commit mass suicide and even murder their own children
was also a narcissist. David Koresh, Charles Manson, Joseph Koni, Shoko
Asahara, Stalin, Saddam, Mao, Kim Jong Ill and Adolph Hitler are a few examples of
narcissists of our time. All these men had a tremendous influence over their
fanciers. They created a personality cult around themselves and with their
blazing speeches elevated their admirers' souls, filled their hearts with
enthusiasm and instilled in their minds a new zest for life. They gave them hope!
They promised them the moon, but alas, invariably they brought them to their
doom. When you are a victim of a cult of personality, you don't know it until
it is too late.
One determining factor in the development of NPD is childhood abuse.
"Obama's early life was decidedly chaotic and replete with traumatic and mentally
bruising dislocations," says Vaknin "Mixed-race marriages were even less common
then. His parents went through a divorce when he was an infant (two years
old). Obama saw his father only once again, before he died in a car accident.
Then, his mother re-married and Obama had to relocate to Indonesia : a foreign
land with a radically foreign culture, to be raised by a step-father. At the
age of ten, he was whisked off to live with his maternal (white)
grandparents. He saw his mother only intermittently in the following few years and then
she vanished from his life in 1979. She died of cancer in 1995."
One must never underestimate the manipulative genius of pathological
narcissists. They project such an imposing personality that it overwhelms those
around them. Charmed by the charisma of the narcissist, people become like clay
in his hands. They cheerfully do his bidding and delight to be at his service.
The narcissist shapes the world around himself and reduces others in his own
inverted image. He creates a cult of personality. His admirers become his
co-dependents.
Narcissists have no interest in things that do not help them to reach their
personal objective. They are focused on one thing alone and that is power.
All other issues are meaningless to them and they do not want to waste their
precious time on trivialities. Anything that does not help them is beneath them
and do not deserve their attention. If an issue raised in the Senate does
not help Obama in one way or another, he has no interest in it. The "present"
vote is a safe vote. No one can criticize him if things go wrong. Why should
he implicate himself in issues that may become controversial when they don't
help him personally? Those issues are unworthy by their very nature because
they are not about him.
Obama's election as the first black president of the Harvard Law Review led
to a contract and advance to write a book about race relations. The
University of Chicago Law School provided him with a fellowship and an office to work
on his book. The book took him a lot longer than expected and at the end it
devolved into guess what? His own autobiography! Instead of writing a
scholarly paper focusing on race relations, for which he had been paid, Obama could
not resist writing about his most sublime self. He entitled the book Dreams
from My Father ..
Not surprisingly, Adolph Hitler also wrote his own autobiography when he was
still nobody. So did Stalin. For a narcissist no subject is as important as
his own self. Why would he waste his precious time and genius writing about
insignificant things when he can write about such an august being as himself?
Narcissists are often callous and even ruthless. As the norm, they lack
conscience. This is evident from Obama's lack of interest in his own brother who
lives on only one dollar per month. A man who lives in luxury, who takes a
private jet to vacation in Hawaii, and who has raised nearly half a billion
dollars for his campaign (something unprecedented in history) has no interest in
the plight of his own brother. Why? Because, his brother cannot be used for
his ascent to power. A narcissist cares for no one but himself.
This election is like no other in the history of America . The issues are
insignificant compared to what is at stake. What can be more dangerous than
having a man bereft of conscience, a serial liar, and one who cannot distinguish
his fantasies from reality as the leader of the free world?
I hate to sound alarmist, but one must be a fool if one is not alarmed. Many
politicians are narcissists. They pose no threat to others. They are simply
self serving and selfish. Obama evinces symptoms of pathological narcissism,
which is different from the run-of-the-mill narcissism of a Richard Nixon or
a Bill Clinton, for example. To him reality and fantasy are intertwined. This
is a mental health issue, not just a character flaw. Pathological
narcissists are dangerous because they look normal and even intelligent. It is this
disguise that makes them treacherous.
Today the Democrats have placed all their hopes in Obama. But this man could
put an end to their party. The great majority of blacks have also decided to
vote for Obama. Only a fool does not know that their support for him is
racially driven.
Let us call a spade a spade. This is racism, pure and simple. The truth is
that while everyone carries a misconceived collective guilt towards the blacks
for wrongs done centuries ago by a bygone people to a bygone people, the
blacks carry a collective rancor, enmity or vendetta towards non-blacks and to
this day want to "stand up" to the white man.. They seem to be stuck in 19th
century.
The downside of this is that if Obama turns out to be the disaster I
predict, he will cause widespread resentment among the whites. The blacks are
unlikely to give up their support of their man. Cultic mentality is pernicious and
unrelenting. They will dig their heads deeper in the sand and blame Obama's
detractors of racism. This will cause a backlash among the whites. The white
supremacists will take advantage of the discontent and they will receive
widespread support. I predict that in less than four years, racial tensions will
increase to levels never seen since the turbulent 1960s. Obama will set the
clock back decades… America is the bastion of freedom. The peace of the world
depends on the strength of America , and its weakness translates into the
triumph of terrorism and victory of rogue nations. It is no wonder that
Ahmadinejad, Hugo Chavez, the Castrists, the Hezbollah, the Hamas, the lawyers of the
Guantanamo terrorists and virtually all sworn enemies of America are so
thrilled by the prospect of their man in the White House. America is on the verge
of destruction. There is no insanity greater than electing a pathological
narcissist as president.
Halloween is over but it appears that we are entering a scary age for America.

Studs Terkel dies at 96, 10-31-08
Studs Terkel died Friday at 96 years of age, after a full and courageous life. He was a devoted liberal thinker in the best sense of the word, which, to me, has become so sadly twisted during his lifetime. Studs was for the "little man" and wanted that man to be heard as well. He believed that the "little person" had contributions to make which were equally important, if not moreso, than the person always seen in the finely tailored garbs.
I believe that my sainted mother, Mary Kegley, no doubt listened to Studs in his soap opera days during the early first half of the twentieth century. He interviewed far more than nine thousand people and had many books published. He also interviewed the famous and non-famous of this world in his Chicago radio programs. Studs sought the perspective of his interviewees on whatever topic he visited.
Although charged as a communist during the McCarthy era, I choose to believe that he would not be bullied to give in to "thought police" when investigated. He stuck to his liberal thought.
I, with my six books to date, am a minor emulator of the great Studs Terkel. I have been privileged to interview outstanding people. I admit that I have more interest in the earnest Christian's perspective above all of the others.
I wanted so much to meet with my friend from my back row seat, but his health turned down in his last couple of years and I was not so allowed. I have prayed for Studs Terkel and I hope that Jesus Christ, the Advocator for each of us before His Father, can make a case for him to enter Heaven. I don't believe the great man, Studs, would resent my prayers on his behalf.
