Bringing Christians back to church

The campaign, scheduled this year for September 8, aims to energize Christians to contact people they have not seen in church and invite them to return. Philip Nation, national spokesperson for National Back to Church Sunday, points to the event website, as it makes available different resources to promote the event.
"This year, one of the funny things that has arisen is the pastor rap video," he notes. "It's kind of a viral video that was created that people can share in social media in order just to pique the interest of their friends about what's going on at their churches."
Churches can log into the registry to become part of the event, which hopes to attract 10,000 or more online supporters to help publicize participation.
"Also there [are] all sorts of resources," Nation adds. "Everything from the mailers that you'd want to use to send out to your community, to door hanger cards, to bulletin inserts, and there [are] even some sermon helps and some PowerPoint templates and other videos that are there to help church leaders engage their members in National Back to Church Sunday."
The spokesperson says that there are too many empty pews in churches today.
"There are too many believers who have bought into the Chicken Little idea that the sky is falling and nobody wants to come back to church," he offers. "In reality, what we see is that the majority of people are interested to find out about your church, if you'll invite them."

Nation asserts that the personal touch is what gets people to walk through the church doors again on Sundays.
